Art Portfolio exhibition at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens from Sat 23rd March.
Making art is pretty wonderful in its own right. Everyone say whoop whoop. Yet I think its the connections we make with others through our own art that can be pretty astounding and wonderful. New friendships form and connections made across countries. Artist, collectors, art lovers, friends … I would love to hear what connection you have experienced through because of someone's art.
This wagon flower on a varied blue background found its way to Noordhoek and matches the colours of the open plan kitchen. Such a snug super fit between these wooden windows which offset the colours beautifully. Thank you for sharing
So "Our Happy Place" has found it way to a special family in Hamburg. And look how well it sits in this space. Thank you for choosing this and I continue to hope it finds giggles and grace in your own happy place. #artinhomes #collectors #floralart #yellow #subirds #pincushions
So I decided upon a name for this painting after my client visited my studio home and bought this painting. In my studio is a wall sticker claiming my studio as "This is my happy place." Then after many happy encounters with these fine folk, coupled with their holiday experiences in Cape Town I felt it only fitting they have something that recalls Their own happy place(s) as they return to Hamburg and enjoy their lovely young family. ...and of course the 2 sunbirds enjoying their very own happy place nestled amongst some rocket pincushions.
'Mr King' nestled in Bishopscourt near its fynbos friends in the botanical gardens and mountain. Thank you for sharing. I havent painted on a full red background for a while, but I honestly love how it makes such a dramatic statement and the flower pops. So fitting for a king protea.
Do you have one of my paintings or prints? I would love to see where it has ended up in your home. This is my bedroom and a painting of mine I have...
Flowering at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens at the moment. You can find a gorgeous array of lilacs, blues and dark purples (and also white). Agapanthus or colloquially named 'Agies'. These flowers are common South African verge plants and I have painted a few of these before. Thinking this is a rather beautiful and bold specimen. Not often I can find a blue flower to paint. I especially like the light caressing the top blooms
Prepping and packaging paintings to head off with my collector to Hamburg. This process involves; making sure there are hanging goodies on the back and labelling. Then bubble wrapping (and ensuring bubbles facing away from the artowrks), mdf backing board supports (to ensure no gouges in transit) and then finally the game of cardboard tetras to create an envelope. And definitely a whole lot of masking tape! Safe and snug and ready to rock n roll. #packagingart #artforsale #transportingart
The painting is for sale, but not my new scatters. I laugh at how all my artworks match my lounge. Beautiful leaf scatter cuahions from the creative and lovely @bwardallhandmade. She will be having an open day tomorrow if you are in the Noordhoek area. Go check out her page of lovely wares. #artforhome #capetownartists #supportlocal #handmade #pincushion p.s. the painting is still for sale.
Oh my word I have found the ultimate podcast for artists. I'm so disheartened listening to our news that I needed a change. Something to full up my sensory pot. http://www.savvypainter.com Antrese Wood is an amazing listener and interviewer, asking the questions I dream of asking. She covers a wonderful range of topics - so relevant I feel like she is speaking directly to me A wonderful resource for us artists and a way of feeling connected to our tribe. #artgeeks #savvypainter #artpodcasts
Ellipses and form! So very tricky for me. It's all in the details and taking the time to paint slowly and look at value changes. It really is a struggle as I enjoy quick sweeps of colour, yet this practice of tonal work is crucial if I want to build up my skill base. #valuesandtone #keepworking #keepgrowing
