Detail shot of “Fishing at Marco Island, Florida”. Side views and close-ups give you a better idea of the wood texture that lies beneath the painted surface of my work.
Carving video of my most recent canoeing commission. Notice that both of my hands are kept behind the knife action, thus preventing any dangerous slips.
Very bright red with a feeling of sun - what do you think of the colors in this one? “Fishing at Marco Island Florida” was drawn and carved in 2016, but then it sat in my half finished stack for several years until I painted it this winter.
More photos of twig people. I’m just holding them, moving them around, taking photos as I feel out how to use them in my art.
Close up of wood carved crow/raven. Does it bother you or please you to see the rough wood texture underneath the acrylic paint? I could take it off in a second with a light sanding pass, but I choose to leave it rough. Otherwise how would you know it’s a carving underneath all the paint?
Twig figures have been calling to me. Here are my first two, see a small bit of my hand holding them for scale.
Lady Liberty close up.
Vote on your favorite of these two stain/painted pieces- Lady Liberty or Little Rooster.
Small detail close up taken from a larger black bird piece.
These two small babies will soon be lightly painted but I want to show them before I do so. Notice that I have shellacked them first, experimenting to see the effect of sealing before painting.
Ravens or crows, which do you think they are?
Carved detail, wood nymphs and sleeping woman.
A goldleafing video for your viewing pleasure! There’s nothing like gold leaf for jazzing up the colors in the rest of the piece.
Another carved detail from a larger piece.
Another detail taken from a gardening piece. Zoom in to see the carved detail underneath the paint. On her left is the gold leafed inner frame of the piece.
Celebratory Wood Spirit, another carved detail from a larger piece. Jump into this Monday folks!
