In January Raw Vision Magazine held a film contest for short iPhone videos about outsider or self taught artists. Although I do not think of my work as outsider I DEFINATELY ID as self-taught. Z. Anger entered a video titled “What’s Out There” - about me and my awkward ventures into social media. Instagram does not allow me to do links, and unfortunately It’s a super long link, making it difficult to copy and paste it into your browser if you want to see the video. Another option: check me out on Facebook under “folkartmary” The link is easily clickable there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgfGcrL-32o&index=59&list=PL5efcojeyjpPNK1Hs6eghY2i1lBJyCGLu If you want to see all of the film entries you can sign up to the YouTube group at which they are posted. The film on me is near the bottom, #59 . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnMUCaYvEnI&list=PL5efcojeyjpPNK1Hs6eghY2i1lBJyCGLu To like or make comments you may have to subscribe to the YouTube group.

We the People” carved white pine, acrylic paint, gold leaf. I’m going to look at this one for a while, but I think it is complete.
We the People. Carved pine prior to painting.
Something off balance and a little bit simpler... carved white pine and acrylic paint.
Saying “yes” to difficult things. There is no choice but onward.
Detail shot, two of the four people in my most recent carved and painted “Yes” piece.
These people say “yes”. Carved white pine, acrylic paint, gold leaf.

I’ve been considering several different titles for this piece. I am open to your thoughts. The choices so far are: “We the People”, “My Fellow Americans” or “Bridging the Divide”. Materials are carved white pine and acrylic paint.
Painting the People.
I’ve done some painting on this piece. In looking at it I realized I wanted to add still more carved faces.
Something a little different...
In the winter off season from being @ithacafarmersmarket on a weekly basis, I like to try some new things. This is a painting on plywood, 16” x 24”. It has 1/8” deep carved lines. In painting it I felt free to stay within or go outside of the etched lines. Fun. I’ve been looking at this one inside of my house for a few weeks, to decide if it is done. What do you think?
Applying a second coat of gold leaf to the inner frame of a commissioned painted woodcarving that is almost complete!
Went to a party at a friend’s house the other day and saw this older piece that I forgot they had bought. Crazy zany sheep with attitude. Such a peasant surprise to run into them once again. My art lives on its own apart from me.
Rooster or hen, you take your choice! Carved white pine, acrylic paint, gold leaf, copper sun.
