📖 (21) - Right before moving to New York I hosted a going away party.

Some friends that had been on my ex-boyfriend’s “side” during our breakup showed up unexpectedly. I was surprised, even more so when they apologized for not being better friends to me during that time. I truly appreciated the gesture, so I slept with one of them as a thank you.

The next day, amidst my hangover and a heavy fog of shame, fear and excitement, my mom and I drove off in a rented U-Haul from Chicago to New York. We arrived at my new apartment a few days later on the West side of Manhattan.

My quest to find an apartment had been a bit of a rollercoaster, which meant it took me two weeks to find something instead of the one I had planned.

When I finally found “the one,” it felt too good to be true. I found it on Craigslist and not only was it priced well below market value, it checked off every single box on my [very lengthy] list of desired features.

Mirroring my worst fears, my coworkers told me something was definitely wrong with it. “It’s too nice and too cheap,” they said.

It was close to $3,000 a month for a 650 square foot apartment in Chelsea with no dishwasher. I had anxiety for months waiting to find cockroaches that never showed up.

My pre-war building turned out be every bit as great as I thought it would be.

It was my first lesson in manifestation, and learning to trust that something greater was possible despite what others said.

Tried a new place today in the neighborhood! Max and I were in the mood for something fresh and raw so we went to Kome Waza for poke bowls. This was my first time having a poke bowl so it was super exciting for me! You can’t see it, but I asked for salmon and scallops for my two proteins, along with a variety of greens, including my favorite green seaweed salad. For $12 of fresh and tasty goodness, I thought the price was very reasonable. Hope everyone had a nice weekend—the hours just flew by.... I did a lot of vacuuming, a round of laundry, cleaned my desk area so that I can finally work there (after weeks of camping out elsewhere in the apartment), and pruned my houseplants. Max and I also took a purposeful walk through the neighborhood (strolling isn’t his thing) and stayed for an hour in our neighborhood French cafe. I got some reading done for classes, but barely touched this paper... ugh. The inspiration hasn’t come... and neither has the panic monster arisen 😂

I went to the Buddakan with my husband tonight. The restaurant was used as a shooting place for Sex And The City. This place had a great atmosphere. A study on jumping rope, published in Science Daily, notes, “This aerobic exercise can achieve a “burn rate” of up to 1300 calories per hour of vigorous activity, with about 0.1 calories consumed per jump.
