➵ Your Truths shall set you free 𓆃 . . ┪I’ve had several times in my life that I’ve taken some challenging dips into sadness, confusion and self-despair. To me, it felt like I was screaming beneath the water, but no one could hear me because nothing came out. Nothing emerged because I didn’t understand my ego or emotions, I couldn’t see the pain clearly and I didn’t understand the stories I had told myself throughout my life. Those stories had me searching for validation in ways I wasn’t even conscious of. It had me misguided, misunderstood and unclear on what happiness and a purposeful life actually meant to me. In stepping into a deeper understanding of myself, my beliefs and my truths I confronted my shadows and all the ways I had been getting in my own way. I had a lot of blind spots. I wasn’t fully living in my vision and values because of this underlying desire to feel worthy, to feel like enough. It’s tough for me still to share this on such a public platform, because of the deeply entrenched masculine programming that would have me believe that vulnerability equals weakness still lingers. I get to disprove that belief, however, by leaning into the resistance and letting myself be truly seen, not the me masked with persona. To confront that growth edge and step through it time and time again has given me freedom that I always believe existed, but now get to live. I’m thankful for the pain, the hard lessons and I feel forever grateful for the journey. I get to rise and and get to turn my pain into purpose. I get to create what I know is possible for the world. 𑁔
It’s time to honor the fine folks at the @nationalparkservice during National Park Week that help protect our public lands (and oceans!). @channelislandsnps has one of the oldest marine monitoring programs in the US. They’ve been recording which fish, algae, and invertebrates they see in the park since 1982. Their data ultimately helps create effective marine protected areas and gives regulators and scientists a heads up when the ecosystem goes through big changes. Shot on assignment for @owuss_ and @npssubmerged

A day at sea with an old friend
Appreciating the Earth and time spent together 🌎💚
Look back @ it, it being a great weekend, semester, and year!
No man is an island 🌴🥰
Yesterday, the sun set on the final @peaksandprofessors trip of my USC career. To some of you, this may equate to just another hiking spam post, so keep scrolling - but some of you know how important this club has been to me during my time at USC, so I’d like to share a little IG memoir. This club made me fall in love with the outdoors and has provided me with some of my most enriching intellectual experiences. Not many groups can do things like that. Since my freshman year, I have led or assisted on 28 peaks trips. With about 10 participants on each trip, that means I’ve been able to help provide a meaningful and intellectual outdoors experience to almost 300 students and about 20 unique professors. I’ve watched participants hike, camp, or backpack for the first time, see their first shooting star, or see snow for the first time. I’ve watched participants fall in love with the outdoors and break out of their physical or social comfort zones. Although this could go on for pages, I thought this finale would be best commemorated by one photo and memory from each of my four years in this club: ⭐️ Freshman year: my first overnight trip (@sequoiakingsnps) as a participant in October 2015 and maybe the greatest sunset I’ve ever witnessed. ⭐️ Sophomore year: @joshuatreenps with Dr. Broyer, @nadinecurtin , and @tjenss . That fall I had the opportunity to serve as recruitment director and welcome 20 new trip leads into a rapidly expanding 3 year old organization, many of whom have become my best friends. Dr. Broyer and I have worked together on six trips, each of which seems to top the one before it all the way up through this weekend. ⭐️ Junior year: @thekatcheng and @ben_banet ‘s winter break trip to rural AZ/UT. Although not strictly a Peaks trip, this trip represented the beauty of the trip lead community - doing rad shit with the best people that ever graced the earth. ⭐️ Senior year: Kearsarge Pass w/ Larry Harris. Still my all-time favorite trip, this weekend made me fall in love with the Sierras and commit to hiking hundreds of miles through their peaks and valleys this July. Four inches of unexpected October snow couldn’t stop us.
Finally got out diving yesterday for the first time since December. It was a brisk 54F, but the nudibranchs were out in force. These two Opalescent Sea Slugs are about 13mm in length.
Finally got to dive (chilly) Anacapa with @theicefish 🙃 ❄ #NeedADrysuit #channelislands #scubadiving . . . . . . . . #easterweekend #diving #nationalparks #anacapa #scuba #california #southerncalifornia #californiadiving #selfie #underwater #socal #pacificicean #savethereef #savetheocean #keepitclean #funday #photooftheday #picoftheday #underthesea #staysalty
3/8 Channel Islands visited
Haven’t posted in a long time, mb. Here’s an iPhone shot, and edit. Everytime I travel now I’ve started to leave my camera, take a step back, and enjoy nature for what it is. It’s a good breather.
Great day on the water with these two. Lots of Dolphins on the outside of Anacapa. My awesome cousin Christine took these photos. 👍

Exploring Anacapa Island (Channel Islands) in search of the warty sea cucumber with California Department of Fish & Wildlife. In partnership with @californiadfw and @channelislandsnps MARE used ROVs to help document sea cucumbers. . . . #seacucumber #wartyseacucumber #anacapaisland #channelislands #channelislandsnationalpark #oceanexploration #cdfw
Cruising to Anacapa Island and seeing dolphins, sea lions, and lots of wildlife along the way.
Couple of quick clips from this weekends dive on Anacapa Island in the Channel Islands. My good camera actually did not end up working out. So most of the stuff is GoPro footage. And it was cold as hell, so there was a lot of camera shake. That said, it was a great three dives. #California #ChannelIslands #Anacapa #GoPro #SCUBADiving #scubadivingCalifornia
Hike More⛰Worry Less
Met a nice couple, Sara and her husband, John on Anacapa Island Trip 😊
Can you spot the boat? Being the only campers and essentially the only non Parks Service/scientist people to view the ‘super moon’ lunar eclipse from Anacapa Island and waking up to this view is a memory I’ll cherish forever. For a few minutes at dawn the light was so exquisite, the colours so vivid, the juxtaposition of tones, textures and shapes so beguiling, it was one of those moments when feels a profound sense of connection and gratitude to live on this magnificent planet of ours! Thanks to @tomjudah, @bren_dah_76 and @islandtomol_ for making it possible and of course @brookebasse who is the most capable wing-woman and superb company! 🙌 I’ll be posting some more pictures with little vignettes on the characters and behind the scenes goings on in the coming weeks.
On our way to Anacapa Island, Channel Islands - a day of hiking and picnic 😊❤️
Anacapa, you really left me speechless... This place is pretty much like a rock that randomly rises from the ocean. When you look on a map and compare this island with the remaining Channel Islands you might think that, besides rocks, it has nothing to offer. Boy was I wrong - Anacapa is definitely a hidden gem and worth a thousand visits!! . . #anacapaisland #channelislands #nationalpark #optoutside #wanderlust #islandpackers #ventura #oxnard #seagulls #daytrip #travelgoals #instatravel #americathebeautiful #adventuretime #hikingadventures #cliff #sunshine #weekendvibes #explorer #goexplore #boattrip #superbloom2019 #wildflowers #wildlife #remote #bestview #californiaadventure #californiadreaming #california
