Aching with back and joint pain, Gianna followed a friend’s recommendation and took her first yoga class and ended two years of sedentary living. After just a few weeks of practice, her pain dropped; within a year, she was off all medications (ADHD meds, antidepressants and sleeping pills); at two years she began advanced asana training; and by year three she certified as a teacher. Thirsty to know, she went full time studying, teaching and practicing the 26 + 2 series and Ashtanga yoga. She sees more clearly by the light of her teachers: Mary Jarvis, Emmy Cleaves, and Leslie Kaminoff. Gianna is a Bikram certified teacher, a 500-hour Yoga alliance certified teacher, and teaches meditation, yin and vinyasa in addition to the 26+2 series.

Gianna has competed in international asana championships, placing first regionally and nationally and second internationally. She currently judges for the USA Yoga Asana Championships. She continues to train to improve both her practice and her teaching. “My goal with competing was never to beat the other yogis. My objective is challenge. In challenging my physical practice, my knowledge of the body and postures greatly improves allowing me to better help my students in their asana and greater yoga journey.” Gianna focuses on sharing information that deepens one’s  understanding of what we teach and how best to teach it.

If we could just be ok with being uncomfortable. Be ok in a situation, in a conversation, in a position, in a place. If we could just practice being uncomfortable we could gain understanding. 
I see inspirational posts from the fitness and wellness world using the quote “change begins just outside your comfort zone,” to promote working hard and finding gains...or whatever you say when you’re gettin swole. 
You gotta a nice ass and great muscle tone but you’re a total dick. 
How about every time in your life you feel reactive, you sit and recognize your own discomfort? Many of our negative reactions stem from this feeling. A new place, lack of communication, confrontation, unfamiliar people, and your own ignorance all illicit discomfort. How we react to this can stunt or promote growth. 
Start by recognizing it, step back and decide to watch it, don’t react to it, to learn from it. 
You will change more than your mental make up when you see your limitations.

This wknd BA & Simon will practice @bodenyc where they first met & did their first hot yoga session.  Where will you practice this wknd?! We are so sorry to have no choice but to close our school this wknd only but we’ll be back up & running with Monday morning’s Express class, followed by Classic taught by @tulaparker.yoga, same again in the afternoon/evening with a sweet Yin finish by @samgoddardyoga 🙏🏻💖🧘‍♀️ Worldwide, so many folks practice Yoga these days!
