In a bid to give answers to the persistent complaints and reports on the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, with immediate effect, overhaul the management and activities of the unit.

Nigerians have overtime continued to complain over human rights violations by SARS officials.

Osinbajo on Tuesday, urged the IG to ensure that any unit that will emerge from the process, will be intelligence-driven and restricted to the prevention and detection of armed robbery and kidnapping, and apprehension of offenders linked to the stated offenses, and nothing more.
.
The Acting President has also directed the IGP to ensure that all operatives in the emerging Unit conduct their operations in strict adherence to the rule of law and with due regard to International Human Rights Law and the constitutionally guaranteed rights of suspects.

According to the statement by Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the President on media & publicity, the operatives should also bear proper identification anytime they are on duty.

In the meantime, the Acting President has directed the National Human Rights Commission to set up a Special Panel that will conduct an investigation of the alleged unlawful activities of SARS in order to afford members of the general public the opportunity to present their grievances with a view to ensuring redress.

A dismissed Police officer from Cross River State has committed suicide after being accused of defiling and infecting five underage girls, with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

According to investigation by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the policeman was dismissed from the force for alleged gross misconduct and detained in a prison in Port Harcourt, and relocated to Bayelsa State.

Community sources said the incident, which has provoked anger among indigenes of Kolokuma/Opokuma area of the state, led to a search for the officer, but he escaped towards Trofani community in Sagbama Local Government Area, where he was reported to have committed suicide.
.
A source, who preferred not to be named, revealed that the six victims included a female lover, who had moved to Delta State after a test proved she was HIV positive.
.
“Investigation showed that the man escaped from a prison in Port Harcourt sometime last year and embarked on a defilement spree. More than five underage persons were reportedly defiled and infected with HIV,” the source stated. “The nine-year-old girl, names withheld, was defiled recently. The victim told her mother about the act, but the mother refused to listen to her. However, when the girl could not walk properly and was sickly, the mother took her for a laboratory test and discovered that she had not only been defiled but was also HIV positive. “We call on the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Health and the FIDA to come to the aid of the victims. They need treatment.” Contacted on the development, spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, said though he had heard about the incident, it had not been “officially reported to the command”.

Ugandan police have arrested one Harriet Nassali, a housewife, for allegedly beheading her husband, Siraje Kavuma, and digging a grave in their matrimonial bedroom with the intention of burying him.

.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Area police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened over the weekend at Lwesubo Buwambo village.
.
.
“They had an argument over a piece of land prompting Nassali to pick a machete and cut Kavuma’s head, killing him instantly,” Owoyesigyire said.
.
.
Quoting the couple’s daughter, the police mouthpiece said, Nassali had always threatened to kill her husband whenever they had misunderstandings.

Regrann from @alibabagcfr - Watch this video and see how we all depend on crude oil from the south for our sustenance. Even people who had other things to do, abandoned it because it seemed easy. Imagine someone leaving a car and climbing on... Imagine another who was on top a building (groundnut pyramid) jumping down to join. And so on and so forth. We need to wake up to our realities. The fact that someone has the capacity doesnt mean it can not be over loaded. And don't tell me it's not possible to grow all those things that made us great again. We still have them. The land. The rivers. The plateaus. The people. The diversity. The culture. The facilities. The cocoa. The palm oil. The groundnuts. The rubber. The hide and skin. The desert. The rail. The airports. The ports. The schools. The judiciary. The constitution... (let's tweak this one). The things others don't have. Even the things others have that made them super powers. We have them. #impossibleisnothing #YesWeCan #Nademdeyrushus - #regrann #yawnaijaent
