A thousand golden domes: Some of the many churches of Kyiv. Landmarks of cultural heritage, they resemble the importance of religion throughout the country. ⛪️🇺🇦

Found myself in an unfamiliar environment on arrival in Kyiv, Ukraine. It was the summer of 2014 and I was visiting a close buddy, when protests over the government’s decision to get closer to Russia instead of the European Union led to widespread chaos and unrest in Kyiv. Civilians came from far and wide to stand up against the government and security forces. Many people lost their lives fighting for this cause which led to further violence in pro Russian areas in eastern Ukraine. The conflict still remains largely unresolved today. 😥🇺🇦

Heading from Australia to Ukraine, the cheap flight I took stopped over in Guangzhou, China, for half a day. I didn’t get to see much due to the mist and time limitations. But here’s a distant view of the Pearl River Tower. It is one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in the world, having wind turbines and solar panels inbuilt. The offices are mainly occupied by the China National Tobacco Corporation. 🏙🇨🇳

New York City scenes. Created on a former railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan, there is now an elevated green walkway. It has become an icon of contemporary landscape architecture. Each year extensions to the High Line are added. My photos from around the USA will end on this innovative note. 🌲🇺🇸

New York City scenes. Marking where the Twin Towers once stood are two square reflection pools. There are names of the people who died engraved by the pools and a museum nearby with items salvaged from the disaster. ❤️🇺🇸

New York City scenes. I thought this was a scene out of GTA at first as I looked back towards Manhattan. Why was I getting chased by a boat with a machine gun? 🗽🇺🇸

New York City scenes. Walking the Brooklyn Bridge with Manhattan in the background. Built in 1883, it’s on of the oldest roadway bridges in the USA. 🏙🇺🇸

September in New York City isn’t complete for a tennis fan until a trip to Flushing Meadows for the US Open. Saw a range of players including, Dimitrov, Isner, and Federer. Arthur Ashe Stadium (photo 3) is ridiculously huge. 🎾🇺🇸

Washington D.C. scenes. Built in 1800, the White House has been the residence for every president since. 🏰🇺🇸

On our way back to New York City, we stopped over in Washington D.C. to see some of the famous landmarks. Here I am still in Miami mode at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It was here that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech to a huge crowd marching for civil rights in 1963. 💫🇺🇸

Even though the Everglades National Park is the third largest National Park in the USA, the average depth of its water is only 150 cm. Airboats are required to travel across the shallow wetlands. I took a quick tour of the Everglades while I was in Miami. The first photo is of the guide. We did see one alligator but the whole encounter seemed a bit staged. 🐊🇺🇸

South BEACH. Was a relief to reach this place after a long, tumultuous, car drive from New York. We stopped at a number of beaches along the east coast, but they were all pretty average except for this one. 🌞🇺🇸

Miami scenes. Miami has the world’s largest collection of Art Deco architecture and gets its name from the native Mayaimi tribe who lived in the region in the 1700s. 🌴🇺🇸

Following the end of camp, I took a roadtrip with some mates from New York City down to Miami. We stopped over at Atlantic City, a coastal town known for its casinos. Between almost having the car towed from a McDonald’s car park, and sneaking too many people into the hotel room, it was lucky we got out of that place in once piece. 🃏🇺🇸

On the way back to camp, we stopped in Baltimore, Maryland. We had lunch at a restaurant called ‘Dick’s Last Resort’. At this restaurant, the staff are instructed to insult you and put you in uncomfortable situations. They threw napkins and straws at me. It’s a bizzare place. ⚓️🇺🇸

Another side trip was to Cleveland, Ohio. We stopped at a range of sporting and music museums, amusement parks, and caught a baseball game between the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. The organ music and gimmicky foods on offer were probably more interesting than the game itself. ⚾️🇺🇸

I took a number of side trips with the campers while at the camp. I usually had to maintain some level of ‘responsibility’ of the campers while out on a trip. But I still got to see a lot. We spent a few days in Ocean City, Maryland. It’s pretty much just this long boardwalk that leads to a pier, with bars and restaurants all the way along. 🌞🇺🇸

Experienced my first baseball game in Binghamton, New York. It was a minor league match between the Binghamton Mets and Richmond Flying Squirrels. Good banter was had throughout the game. ⚾️🇺🇸
