Is anyone else following and getting as obsessed as me with the Saudi journalist #JamalKhashoggi murder mystery? The countries involved, the political gains, the struggle of power, the fiancé who he only met 4 months ago: this is what movies are made of. And everyday it gets more and more intense: its like i wake up to a new chapter everyday! So many conspiracies attached, so many ideologies being discussed, its all so damn intense. If you are following it, whats your take on the whole scene??
Shehla Chatoor’s latest chinar bagh collection is inspired by the chinar tree: central to influences from the Mughal era and the land of Kashmir. With a mood of old world charm decadence with conscious revival and use of marori embroidery accented with heritage stitches, this collection represents the beauty of a bygone era infused with the semblance and aesthetic of the now.
Is anyone of you watching #NoTimeToSleep ??? What a mindblowing performance by #SarmadKhoosat and what a phenomenal idea of using technology in such a brilliant way!!! Watch the final 24 hrs in the life of a prisoner before his execution: its a #Live performance which is being broadcasted on dawn.com/notimetosleep .... and its entered the final last hour. I don’t remember the last time i was so so sooooo moved by a performance or by an idea. This has been sheer brilliance. It will make you cry, make you happy, make you emotional, make you sympathetic.... way too too many emotions.... and only a brilliant piece of art can make someone go through so much. Over the past couple of months, I have had good days and bad ones. There have been days when I’ve been so exhausted and in so much pain that even lifting a finger hurt. I feel like sometimes it’s a cycle… one that starts off with physical pain and leads to mental and emotional pain. The bad days have been many… Post chemo, post-surgery and the like… where even just laughing hurts.
Sometimes it felt like it took everything I’ve had to push past it… a minute to minute battle with myself. I got through it knowing that even though I was fighting a long drawn out, draining battle… it was one that was worth the fight.
It’s important to remember that we’re allowed to have those bad days. Forcing yourself to be happy and cheerful all the time serves no purpose. Who are we being fake and putting on an act for?
I allowed myself to cry, to feel the pain, to indulge in self-pity… for a short while. Only you know what you’re going through and it is fine to accept it. Emotions aren’t wrong. Feeling negative emotions isn’t wrong. But after a point, identify it, recognize it and refuse to let it control your life.
It takes an immense amount of self-care to get out of that zone. Sleep always helps, or having my favourite smoothie after chemo, or just talking to my son.
For now, as my treatment continues… my visual focus remains to just get better and get back home.
It’s yet another test…
Student all my life…
Learning all my life…
As an editor i have managed to see quite a few collections in my life. There are some you forget easily and then there are some that stay with you forever and ever. I have been lucky to see #Sabyasachi ’s initial collections in #Delhi and I don’t think i will ever forget one called “Frog Princess”.... which was part of the FDCI #WillsLifestyleFashionWeek (there are hardly any pics of that collection on the net!). Soon after, in 2006 to be precise, he was picked up for the #NYFW and he showed this collection there. It was certainly his “I have arrived” collection. Young fun silhouettes, layering and textiles with a very international feel. I miss seeing the initial stages of designer’s life: thats when they are having the most fun with fashion: experimental, creative, just understanding the market and discovering their signature style. Now you hardly get to see that initial stage of a designer: no one seems to experiment, everyone’s trying to play safe. In fact, in the past few years, I don’t even remember the last time a designer excited me! Maybe a name here and there, but nothing that will stay with me for a long long time!
One of the many reasons i love #Banksy !!! The day his art sold, he shredded it away and increased the price by x7 !! Nothing #SayNoToCommercialism about this!! Welcome to the real world! 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽 #GirlWithBalloon#Repost @banksy with @get_repost

“I don’t know yet what career path I will choose – but I know I’ll keep advocating for girls and women. If one girl with an education can change the world, just imagine what 130 million can do.”
As @Malala Yousafzai begins her second year at @Oxford_uni, in the November issue of @britishvogue on newsstands this Friday, she reflects on her university life and why every girl deserves the same chance.
