I am just an add on to the amazing tree that's behind me....
I love collaborating with different photographers, ideas and projects.
Shoot me an email if you want to work with me:
I’ve wanted to talk about this for a while but just could never bring myself to do it.
Why? Because I’m still fighting with this concept today.
Grit VS Quit is knowing when to bare down and push through something – grit through it versus knowing when to quit. It’s a combination of mental awareness, logic, need and want but it is so intricate that not many people know when to push through something and when to quit.
So far, these steps have worked wonderfully for me.
If you have a big goal and you’re taking the necessary steps to get there, but you’re faced with suddenly a huge challenge that you’ve never faced before, grit through it. If at this point you feel like you want to quit, don’t quit just yet. Schedule yourself some time to rest, come back and try facing it again when you’re well rested.
Sometimes all we need is a good break.
If you have a big goal and you’re taking the necessary steps to get there but you find you’re faced a repeating struggle, stop pushing and take a break to think about whether or not the way you’re facing this struggle is exactly the same as the last time you’ve faced this same struggle. Sometimes taking a step back to analyse other ways to tackle a challenge might just be the way to go.
If…you find that you’re dreading doing the necessary steps to get to your end goal, you’re constantly faced with challenges that you just do not want to face, you start to hate waking up to take another step toward that goal, you start to get irritated with people who work around you and that same goal and you’re starting to just not give a damn about whether or not you wake up to grit through anything…. Maybe… it’s time to re-evaluate what you want. Maybe this is no longer, what you want in life.
Then…. It’s time to quit.
This isn't just getting rid of things like clutter, this is also getting rid people and places.
We spend so much of our extra time with people and at places that contradict who we want to be and where we want to go. We may not even realize that these people we choose to surround ourselves with are preventing us from growth because we've just been doing it for so long.
Put them down. Just do it. Stop spending time in places that dont feed your growth, stop spending time with people who do nothing but put you down.
This is not a proud thing to do, it isn't selfish, it's necessary.
Imagine this, you have a goal you want to achieve and you're taking the necessary steps to work towards it. After your day is done you go and hang out with a group of people who frown upon what you want to do, make fun of what you want to do, think you'll never be able to make it or don't even acknowledge that's something you want for yourself. How long do you think it was take you to drop what you want? Not long.
If you constantly surround yourself with things that go against what you want, you'll eventually adopt that same mindset and give up.
It is up to you to decide whether or not you want that type of energy in your life and how important it is for you to get to where you want to go.
The people who support you through your changes are the ones who love you the most. Find them and treasure them.
It is not selfish, it is necessary for even a healthy life. Your life.
It has taken me a short time to understand this concept but a very long time to actually really know it, and apply it to my daily life.
When we struggle, it’s so easy to: - fall into the pity party and say “woe is me”
- blame the past and say “well so and so made me this way” - or just down right absolutely hate your life because of the pain and struggle you’re facing.
In order to be able to learn through the pain, we need to be able to consciously step out of our emotions and into an observers perspective. This doesn’t mean to ignore your emotions, this is just a simple mental exercise that you do to help you step out of dwelling on your pain, and into learning mode.
What can I learn from this challenge? what can I do to make this struggle better? Where can I go? Who can I talk to to help me through this?
All of these things are simple logical questions to ask yourself so instead of suffering through the struggle, you actually, mentally walk yourself through it. You hold your own hand and push through it a lot easier because you’re not letting your emotions overpower you, you’re taking control of the situation that you are struggling with and taking away the situation’s power over you, and putting yourself behind the wheel.
I am very proud of this section of my Healthy Habits program. This is something that I not only practice myself on the daily, but also coach my clients through learning as well.
Learn through the pain. It is possible.
I got asked the other day, how often do you face challenges in life?
To which I replied.
Just because you don't see it on my face, just because I don't complain about it, just because I don't act out on a struggle, doesn't mean I'm not facing one.
YES I am an early riser but that doesn't mean there aren't days my thoughts want me to stay in bed instead of the gym. Push through it.
YES I am a regular gym goer but that doesn't mean I don't have days where I don't fight to push myself to get there or fight through to complete a workout.
YES I do eat healthy on a regular basis but that doesn't mean I don't fight with my brain from reaching for another piece of pizza from time to time.
Every single day.
You don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.
And you know what I've come to realize? It's 100% normal and common!
We talk about struggles and challenges, big goals, big visions but we don't talk about the struggles in your daily life, the self mental battle every day that we all face and how often it actually happens!
So don't give up. Keep pushing one day at a time. Don't settle because you are capable of being the best you! And I'll be right there beside you.
we as human beings have the ability to overcome our problems. We have the ability to find a solution to our struggles.... And yet so many of us... don't. We accept our problems and then we sit there. "This is how my life is, this is where I am. It is what it is." It doesn't matter what caused it, it doesn't matter that its here. What matters is where you end up. If you sit there, you'll stay there. If you keep doing what you're doing? You'll end up getting what you've always gotten.
If you even take a little bit of time and ask yourself "what can I do to change this? Where do I go? Who can I ask to help me?" you will find an abundance of tips, tricks, solutions and people!
Whether its financial struggles, business struggles, fitness struggles, nutrition, mental health, relationships... Anything! All of it.
I have talked to so many people and this blows my mind... That they know their problems, they know what they struggle with.... And they just say "it is what it is." I've talked to a some that say "I'm working on making changes!" but not many.
Whether you move or not is 100% in your control. Let's say that again.
Whether I move or not is 100% in my control.
If you're not moving, and you're not happy and you know exactly what the problem is... But you don't know where to go. Look! Research! Ask! Find someone who is living a life that you want to live and ASK THEM!
Don't settle if you're not happy. Don't wait for happiness. Don't look for happiness. Create it... With progress. If you aim for progress and little wins every single day, happiness will just come.
Are you the type to keep things in your head?
Events, birthdays, appointments, to do lists all of the regular errands you have to do, things you need to grab that day, parties to go to.
Do you have all of these things to do and then you go “I can remember all of this”? The pro about keeping things in your head is that you really push your to train your memory work, the con? Having this much going through your head can cause you stress and anxiety. Yup, it’s true.
Why? Because you’ve got so much in your head to remember and on top of that you have your own thoughts flowing through like “I should eat better” or “I need to exercise today” or “what are we making for supper?” Are you starting to see how all of this can pile up and create stress in your daily life without you knowing it?
When you start to run a busy schedule, learn to get organized. There’s a reason why planners are made, there’s a reason why calendars are there for us, there’s a reason why people make lists, there’s a reason why very busy people have assistants that help GET ORGANIZED.
Because you can’t do it all by yourself.
And when you start to realize that you can’t do everything by yourself, you start to learn how to find ways to get organized and before you know it, you’ve just opened up a whole new area of time, for your mind, for your days and for your health.
Learn to get organized. It is so much easier to manage your stress and keep track of everything that you need to do. Nothing will fall or will be missed because you’re organized.
How do people get so much things done? How do people think about what to do next and where to go next? Because they’re organized. If you find yourself sitting there after you’ve completed something and not know what else to do but you know in the back of your mind there was something else that needed to be done and suddenly you can’t remember it.
Suddenly you remember it later down the road and it’s too late to catch it. And it as important. \
Get Organized so you can make your success inevitable.
If it wasn't for photos and videos, I would never know the full scope of whether what I'm doing is working.
Growing a butt for me, takes time. A long time. A long time of squats, lunges, kickbacks, presses and then protein. Lots of protein.
If I slack off in even just my protein intake I start to lose the mass of my glutes and quads. It goes down that fast.
But it took me years to figure this out. And I now know how much of what to eat, to do to gain what result.
You can have this knowledge of your own body too. And you don't have to follow any specific meal plan.
Email me today about how Healthy Habits can help you get more in tune with your own body to give you knowledge and create long lasting habits on how to produce results that you want. These results are sustainable into the future.
Your body, your knowledge, your goals, your habits...all under your control. It just takes some work and time at the beginning.
I'm surrounded by beautiful people and a lot of people I know are always ready to help others in anything they can.
What I learned was that we can't help everyone. We cant force someone to take advice when they're not looking for it. "you can bring a horse to water but you can't force it to drink"
But.....every person can help themselves.
If we simply just made sure we watched ourselves and our own life and our own health was taken care of, if every single one of us had this thought process, there wouldn't be much people that needed help or "saving"
But the possibility of this happening is far from our reach. But we can start with ourselves.
If you can just reach one person, you've already won.
Back when my boots were shiny.
The older I get, the more comfortable I feel in my skin. This may not be the case for everyone so I'm grateful that it is for me.
Not only do I feel more comfortable in my skin but the older I get, the less I care about what I look like and more about what I can do.
The older I get, the less I care about what other people think about me and more about how I can help others.
The older I get, the less I care about looking skinny, and more about having quality foods and feeling good.
The older I get, the less I care about stuff in general, complications of the world, things I can't control and more about what I can do for myself, my family and friends and the people around me.
The older I get, the closer I get to finding a good balance for peace of mind... And I am 100% okay with that.
Everyone wants everything right now.
They'll do anything to get something faster, pay more for quicker shipping, eat a pill because it'll get them skinny faster, follow a diet because it'll give them the bod they want faster.
In fitness and nutrition, anything that says it can get you to your fitness goals in a short amount of time either won't last forever or won't work at all.
Understanding how to balance your life in health takes time. There are tricks and tips to help you better your process but tips that last wont generally be quick fix tips.
We need to train smart. Not fast. If anything training fast will make you skip a lot of quality steps, miss a lot of details major or minor and most of the time it won't last.
Train smart, not fast.
#tbt to last year when I was training under @fullforcefitnesscanada for what I was aiming for, the previous competition that just passed.
But life happened and my priorities needed to be changed for now. I'm not hanging up my suit yet, I'm just putting it on hold until I get my footing back and can commit.
I must say though in the 6 months I was with the coach, he brought me down to near lean bean so fast... This big boss knows what he's doing. Not only that I haven't a clue how he has time to train his athletes and run a gym at the same time. That's boss status right there.
Head on over to his page to see all the van pro athletes compete under @fullforcefitnesscanada and if I'm correct I believe @dustincosman himself is competing.
Go give them a shout!
This is something that I hope to master in growth. Whether it's in fitness, in health, in business, all areas of my life.
Let's say there's a goal you want to reach. We all know there are multiple ways to reach a goal.
Let's say I go south when I should have gone north. I'll still get to my goal but let's just say going north will take me 3 days where as going south will take me 3 weeks and you come up on the butt end of your goal.
YES you still get to your goal eventually but you would save so much more of your time if you knew which way to go to begin with.
We can only hustle so much. The grind is not enough. Be smart about your goals. In modern day, as they say it, we are spoiled. Information is at the tips of our fingers and all we had to do at the beginning was just sit down and give it a little more thought and research at the beginning instead of just rushing into it and wasting your energy when you don't have to.
I'm going back to my roots and cleaning up old strength moves I've learned in the past.
What I noticed was how messy they all were, how much strength I lost in those moves due to lack of review.
Its true what they say, if you don't use it you lose it.
This one has always been a favourite but today it was a struggle! And in my mind that's a huge no no. Adding this to my practice.
A mistake that some of us fall into when it comes to growth is the "trial and error" learning method. This can apply to all areas of life.
While yes this is a very effective way of learning, it isnt the only way for growth. In fact... If we are so stubborn that we insist on sticking with just the trial and error method without looking at other options, your learning curve might be a lot slower than the rest.
Now I'm not saying this is a race, it isn't. There is no competition in growth.
But I am saying.. Be smart about it.
If you can learn from someone else and their trial and error, learn from their experiences both what to do AND what NOT to do, you're going to sprint to he finish line.
Everyone has something that you can learn from. Everyone!
If you think even someone who doesn't have a home wouldn't have something to teach you, you've become blind with ego. This person has a story. Maybe a sad one. Learn from it.
Everyone has something you don't know. Learn from everyone.
