“Deep breaths are like little love notes to your body” 🙃

This week I started my journey of a three week 200hr yoga teacher training course 🧘‍♀️
From someone who has done yoga maybe ten times in her life I started off feeling completely out of my element and uncomfortable.
After the first class my thoughts where a little like “what the fuck am I doing here” 
Followed by a deep inner knowing that this is exactly where I’m meant to be, I just didn’t want to admit it. My intention is to find balance within and to go even deeper into my self-love journey.

Because for to long I pushed and punished my body with exercise to try reach a certain number on the scale. I had the go hard or go home mentality and would spend hours on end at the gym, seven days a week. I viewed my body as the enemy and felt like it was always against me. I didn’t know how to be soft or gentle with it.

.
It’s only been five days into my course and I have already become so much more aware and In sync with my body and come to have such a deeper connection & appreciation for it.
.

“Deep breaths are like little love notes to your body” 🙃 . . This week I started my journey of a three week 200hr yoga teacher training course 🧘‍♀️ From someone who has done yoga maybe ten times in her life I started off feeling completely out of my element and uncomfortable. After the first class my thoughts where a little like “what the fuck am I doing here” Followed by a deep inner knowing that this is exactly where I’m meant to be, I just didn’t want to admit it. My intention is to find balance within and to go even deeper into my self-love journey. . . Because for to long I pushed and punished my body with exercise to try reach a certain number on the scale. I had the go hard or go home mentality and would spend hours on end at the gym, seven days a week. I viewed my body as the enemy and felt like it was always against me. I didn’t know how to be soft or gentle with it. . . It’s only been five days into my course and I have already become so much more aware and In sync with my body and come to have such a deeper connection & appreciation for it. . . Sometimes you don’t feel the heaviness of what has been holding you down until you let it go, only then will you feel the lightness that comes after the release.
Like the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders 🤖🙃🌎

We can become so consumed by dieting and the number on the scale that we don’t see that their is life beyond it.

It’s only when you choose to make yourself a priority and learn to love and accept yourself will you see, feel and experience how much more to life there is.

You will sit back and have moments like wholey fuck how did I ever let that take control of me. How did I ever let my weight define me. How did I ever let food consume my every thought. How did I ever allow myself to believe that my whole existence was based on my physical appearance.
.
.
Then you will slowly start to have fun again, to laugh again, smile more, become creative and adventurous.
You will push beyond comfort zones and place yourself into positions you never imagined you would be in.
Maybe you will pack up and book a solo one way trip or you start to date again. You begin to wear the dress you have always wanted or become a yoga teacher. You could sky dive, or enrol in the course you can’t stop thinking about. You could quit your job and open a business. The options and opportunities are endless.

I promise you once you get a taste of the freedom and life on the other side of an eating disorder and negative body image you won’t ever want to look back.

The choice is only up to you. Either choose to evolve and change or remain the same 🤗💕

I believed my body was the enemy, i felt like it was broken and I was convinced it was working against me trying to make my life hell. 
I remember waking up every morning and looking in the mirror 
My inner voice sounded like this.
You are fat 
You are ugly 
You are worthless 
You are disgusting 
Look at your stomach and all those rolls
Look at the cellulite on your legs 
Look at the stretch marks on your hips 
Look at the acne on your face 
You will never look pretty like them, get a six pack like them, no one will ever love you.
Maybe it would be easier if I was dead. .
.
These thoughts consumed me and I didn’t see a way out of it. 
Every moment felt dark and heavy. I was depressed, miserable and longing for this inner critic to fuck off but I didn’t know how to stop it.

I know I’m not alone when I say this, I know deep done so many of you can relate.

What makes it even harder is we are constantly being reinforced every where we look by the hot chick on TV and Magazines, the weight watchers adds, the get a six pack with this fat loss machine, drink this skinny tea and loose weight, this diet is better, get the Botox, what’s your BMI, anti wrinkle creams, fight against age... the list goes on. Because sex sells right !

We are constantly being told by “them” who ever they are - that it’s not ok to be who we are, the we constantly need to change in order to be enough or worthy.
.
.
That our body isn’t good enough the way it is. 
That who are as a person inside doesn’t even matter because it’s the external physical appearance that is what counts.

.
NOW as women it’s more important than ever to fight back.
To rebel against this perception of beauty, perfectionism and health. 
It’s time we start to love,accept and embrace who we truly are deep down at the core.

Do you post a photo and then sit and wait for the likes to come rolling in, waiting for the outside validation that tells you, it must be a good one?

Maybe your phone blows up and you reach over 100 likes and it leaves you on such a high, feeling loved and accepted.

But oh shit what happens if no one likes it and you don’t reach over that... will you delete it ? 
Because obviously it wasn’t good enough, maybe you didn’t look sexy or beautiful like you thought. 
It leaves a feeling of dissatisfaction and disappointment lingering in your mind...

I won’t lie I’ve done it, I’ve felt it, I allowed myself to think that the more followers I had the more loveable or worthy I must be. The more likes I got on a photo the more it made me feel like I must be some what of beautiful and boosted my self esteem.
But if it went the other way then I must of done something wrong, my message not of an importance, my photo not so aesthetically pleasing, because obviously I don’t compare to the insta famous models that we see.

My self-esteem was so low that the I would crave the outside validation and approval just to feel a sense of being good enough. 
It’s not until I realised that 
no number will ever give me the feelings of love and happiness I was trying to seek.
No amount of likes can determine my worth or my value. And it won’t do the same for you either.

Because your the only one with the power to control how you feel.
You are the only one who can determined your worth, confidence and self-belief.

Or are you the first one to offer to take the photo of others because the thought of getting a picture captured gives you anxiety ? 😬

Maybe you just hands down hate it and refuse because you feel so uncomfortable in your own body. 
That inner voice starts to say..
What if I look fat.
What if it’s not the right angle.
What if they post it on Facebook for everyone to see and they even tag me in it.
What if you can see my cellulite 
What if I look ugly.
What if I look like I have a double chin
What about my tuck shop arms
I hope they edit it or at least use a filter.

And then when you finally do get dragged into getting a picture taken -  you suck your stomach in so much that when you look at the photo you can see it in your face how uncomfortable you are. 
If your in a group photo you hide at the back. 
Maybe you are so quick to grab the camera to check to see how you look.

Yea that use to be me too. I was so obsessed with how my body looked and my physical appearance that I hated getting my photo taken by other people. Taking a selfie was ok though because I was in control and had power over what could be done with the photo.
I could delete it if I hated it and no one had to see. I could take the 50 photos until I got the perfect one. 
I could edit it and perfect it until I half liked what I saw.

Going on a journey of self-love and acceptance has completely changed this for me, I’m no longer scared of the camera. 
Now I’ll happily get my photo taken, regardless of what I look like and go as far as even taking part in photo shoots. I see it now as capturing a memory, how I felt and being in the moment rather than an obsession over what I looked like.

Sure there are times where I don’t feel like getting my photo, or where they don’t look the most flattering but it no longer freaks me out or turns into something so stressful. .

Self-Love is the greatest middle finger of all time 🖕

So many years of being conditioned and programmed by the schools we went to and the teachers we had.

From being told our grades would determine if we where smart or dumb. If we will be a success or a failure.

If you coloured out of the lines you did it wrong. 
If you challenged the teacher with your opinion you where being rude or back chatting.

That learning algebra was of complete importance, even taking it as far as getting a tutor to make sure you really understand how it’s done. 
P.s I hated going to maths tutoring 👊😂 But what ever happened to learning about loving and accepting who we are ? 
To value, trust, respect  and celebrate ourselves... What about the freedom of expressing our creativity, our authenticity and being told that it’s totally ok to embrace what makes us unique. 
Or being told that no dream is too big if we really put our mind to it we can achieve it. 
Instead we all got treated the same, taught to be the same, told that we all should strive for the same standard.

We Slowly started to loose our identity. 
No wonder we feel so judged if we dare to really be ourselves
Or if we let go of our limiting beliefs and decide its time to break away from the “norm” and do something different.
If we challenge the unwritten standard that’s been placed upon us.

And yet I believe that is the greatest act of self-love. If you whole heartedly step into who you really are completely, utterly and unapologetically. “be you, do you, for you” 💕

I use to put so much pressure on myself that at one stage I lost the love for training, I started to really hate it. What should of been enjoyable started to feel like punishment instead.

It’s only when I took a step away and came back with a whole different attitude and mindset did I really begin to find my passion again.

Now I go to training and muck around, laugh, play and still work up such a sweat. 💦

.
Exercise should be enjoyable, you should get excited to go and train. You should move your body in a way that feels good for you. You should feel an appreciation for what your body allows you to do.

Exercise should not be a form of punishment for something you ate, because you hate your body or to reach a certain number on the scale.

When the urge to go back to your eating disorder comes up but you don’t engage with it because you know your not going back that way.

The days where you are so negative about your body and that inner voice starts to rear it’s head but you are quick to tell it to go away. 
When you are close to calling it quits and say the diet will start Monday but are quick to remind yourself that, diets aren’t apart of your life anymore so you take a deep breathe and know that you will be ok.

So often we are so busy trying to get ahead, moving from one thing to the next, rushing through life, always striving for more, searching for the next best thing that... -we are never truly satisfied with what we have right now in front of us. -We never really stop to look at how far we have come. -We never celebrate all our amazing accomplishments. 
Because in our minds what we have achieved is never good enough, we can always be better, do more, have more. 
It’s like we are racing towards the finish line before we can really start to live....
But hold on a second I mean doesn’t the end line come when your dead - 💀 
So why the hell are you in such a race to get there so quickly ?

It’s time to slow down and enjoy the journey, embrace the present moment and give your self some dam credit.

Not when you loose the weight, have more money, find the perfect man, have the dream job.

Progress over perfection, because we all know that it’s the tortoise that wins the race in the end 🐢✨ . . When’s the last time you actually stopped and reflected on how far you have come ? When’s the last time you celebrated all the little wins ? When’s the last time you gave yourself a pat on the back for showing up consistently? Especially on the mornings you didn’t want to get out of bed but you got there in the end..
