“home”
Since being back home I’ve had time to reflect on my travels. After a big trip like this people often say how it’s changed them and how much they’ve learnt about themselves
.
I’ve mostly learnt that I have a squinty right eye in pictures 👁

Did you know that the original New York City grid included no space for parks?
I can’t imagine New York without them 🍃

“at last”
The last stop on my adventure was New York City. What better place to squeeze out every last second of my trip than in the city that never sleeps🌃

“night watch”
Nights in Joshua Tree are famed for the stellar starry skies. This night after watching a stunning sunset we stayed to stargaze and enjoy the show 🌟

“spiky sunset”
Joshua Tree National Park is home to two important desert ecosystems and is designated as a protected area of wilderness. And it certainly is wild. With its weird Joshua Trees straight outta the Dr Seuss series and random rock formations that people have tried reeeeeally hard to imagine look like something recognisable and thirsty honey bees chasing the sweat on your forehead 🐝
But it sure puts on a good sunset show

“cuddly cactus”
The cholla cactus is affectionately known as the teddy bear cactus, and from a distance you could be forgiven for thinking the fine spikes were like fluff and fur, but in reality this not-so-cuddly-cactus spines latch into you skin with the slightest touch in the most vicious form of desert defensive survival #cuddlesthatkill 🐻

Hiking in national parks is good, but when it’s over 100F in the shade, driving is great 👍🏼

“chasing waterfalls”
Spent the day exploring Yosemite. First was a short hike up to Yosemite falls, the parks namesake. A few people were wandering off the trail, climbing and scrambling to feel the spray from the falls
.
I was tempted to do the same but unfortunately the motel room tv with its limited channels had shown me America’s version of Bear Grylls with an over-dramatised story of a couple who ventured off the path by a couple of hundred meters to a waterfall only to get lost in the wilderness for FOUR days with only a dead mans three matchsticks to survive 😳 #nothankyou

“national park”
Yosemite is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It’s towering granite mountains looking like someone just painted them on the sky. It was Yosemite that inspired the concept of the first National Park... and I can see why ⛰

“Busted”
Long drives made better by finding the Busted album on my phone and rocking out to it at full volume on the freeway (and still remembering all the words) #whatigotoschoolfor

“clear blue”
The waters of Lake Tahoe are so clear and still you can see the right down to the rocky floor, but the sunlight bouncing off the glassy water makes depth perception a little more difficult... and in my attempts to hop from shallow rock to rock I was left feeling like Doctor Foster in a puddle right up to my middle💧 (the motel tv is stuck on a children’s channel)

My brain found it pretty difficult to compute the whole snow on the mountains but bikini on the beach thing ⛰

“sunsets”
Sometimes I feel bit sad at the sunset because it means another day is over, and right now, I wish every day was endless (and I can’t believe how lucky it is to feel that)
.
But on this day, after the sunset over Lake Tahoe, mother nature treated me to a little encore #thankyou
