I'll stick with the bunker theme today, just with a different twist! We see square tee boxes quite a bit but not many square bunkers or square greens. Wonder why? Seems they would be easier to maintain and allow a course to stand out in the crowd. Sanctuary Cove throws some square/rectangle bunkers at you, like here at the 2nd. Photo from 03/2013.
West Coast Wednesdays is on California's Central Coast today with a look at La Purisima Golf Course. La Purisima is one of many solid courses along the 101 from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara. Make sure to stop by Jocko's Steakhouse after your round for an awesome steak! Photo from 03/2010.
My review and pictures of Mystic Creek Golf Club are posted. Ken Dye hit another home run with the property and look of the course! This was a scary short iron approach on the 2nd hole, yikes! How cool is that flag reflection in the water? Photo from 11/2018.
I'm hoping to post my review of Mystic Creek Golf Club this week - a Ken Dye course. So for Mountain Mondays I'll rock a picture from another Ken Dye course that I've played, Paa-Ko Ridge. Such an awesome setting up against the Sandia Mountains! Paa-Ko is one of my favorites. Photo from 09/2009.
I've got my review and colorful fall pictures of Piedmont Club posted to my page. If you are bored then check it out! This is the 3rd tee there with those beautiful Fazio bunkers lurking in the distance. Photo from 11/2018.
The colors these days are looking a bit dull. So, how about some green - just how a course is supposed to look! Here is the green complex on the tough 4th at Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Photo from 08/2018.
Looks like North Carolina is about to get slammed with a winter storm so I'll represent them today! Here is the super cool 14th at The Neuse Golf Club, outside Raleigh. Please don't send that snow up to me in Charlottesville ☃️😁 Photo from 10/2012.
Recently, I heard that The Manor Golf Club was closing. However, I found an article that it lives - awesome news! The 18th hole is a great closing hole. It is a reachable par-5 that tempts you to go for the green in two! If you want to read about the course's current status google "The Manor gets a new lease on life". Photo from 05/2013.
Every now and then I stumble across one of those "gems". Well, I'm happy to report that the Deltona Club is a hidden gem! I had never heard of the course before and figured for $25 it would be just a place to play. Wrong! It was in solid shape, had an awesome look to it with all the waste areas/bunkers, plenty of elevation change and was fair to play. If you are playing @victoriahillsgolf then do yourself a favor and also play the Deltona Club. Photo from 11/2018.
Mystic Creek has that 12th hole which seems to mimick the famous 12th at Augusta National. Well, the logo has a similar feel too - a flag in the outline of a state, just the shape of Arkansas! If you zoom in you'll see what I mean. This is the also scenic 10th at Mystic Creek. Photo from 11/2018.
I'll mix it up today with a "sorta" golf course pic. ChampionsGate Country Club is a solid pick near I-4 and has been in great shape both times I've played it. However, if you are considering a round here then you might want to hold off until the 5th hole no longer has a temporary green. Photo from 11/2018.
It is feeling like a #golfbridges type of Friday! Enjoy the slightly unnecessary (maybe??) cart bridge connecting the tees on the long par-3 14th at Victoria Hills. Lots of good golf bridges in Florida, like this one. Photo from 11/2018.
The Crooked Cat Course at Orange County National has a few position holes, like the par-4 11th. Trees flank the fairway and if you end up far enough or right or left enough (grammar FTL) - you could end up out of position with a view like this! Photo from 11/2018.
