So I wanted to include a little something in this snail mail promotional piece. I have one of those large paper punches that cuts out a heart shape. And I have piles of mono prints that are wonderful as well as marbled papers. I followed my nose and punched out a pile of hearts. Nice enough but a little pedestrian. I folded one in half and then another and set them next to each other. Much more interesting. What about connecting them. I then dipped the fold of each in acrylic medium and laid them out to dry. Here is the result. Like little butterflies. One goes in each envelope. I love making things. #makers#gelliprints#hearts#love#art#promotion#invention#heartpunch#meredithmustard#twoimaginestudios#butterflies
And here is the tee shirt. The stencil I used is a copyright #edroth from his book #stencil201 with detachable stencils. I usually design and cut my own stencils but this is one I just love. And I also love #typewriters so there you are. I have made piles of intricate #stencils . I drew and cut many of them when my husband was developing #FTD a brain degeneration that was causing dementia although I was not aware for several years that the changes in his behavior were not in his control. Making stencils was very therapeutic. I still love the process. #originalstencils#paint#twoimaginestudios#meredithmustard
Some more pages. These days together Judy and I, Meredith have a long list of tasks to accomplish. Did a promotional snail mail campaign yesterday. I’ll post a picture. And starting to do a photo shoot of the painted dream houses. I’ll post some of that too. In between I hope to stencil a tee shirt for a friend who collects old typewriters. I’ll post with details. Not enough time for everything. This is the day to compose the weekly “backstory” email. Sign up on our website if you haven’t already. Every week includes a piece of original artwork you can download for free. Most have a wonderful quotation hidden in it. This week’s quotation is especially pithy. I love it anyway. #art#collage#judytollefson#meredithmustard#collaborators#makers#maine find us at #centerformainecrafts#mainecraftsassociation
Judytollefson and I are together in the BrynMawr studio making art. Having fun. Exploring and experimenting. These are some of my favorite pages from my current book project. Collaging keeps taking on new meaning and new possibilities. Hard to keep up with the ideas. #artjournal#collage#glue#inspiration#paint
#BEFORE &AFTER studio clean up. There comes a time when too much has piled up. I have a small studio and it requires a lot of organization to make space to work. Having been away for almost two weeks, teaching and then taking a 5 day class makes for a lot of stuff. Time to clean up is always time well spent. Not to mention I unearthed tools and materials I forgot I had. #twoimaginestudios#cleanup#painting#drawing#design #❤️
Waylaid by beauty. When doing the weekly artwork for The Back Story (our weekly newsletter), I never know where it is going to start: with a quote, with a piece of artwork, with an "inclination to express something"... This week, the inspiration came from the mysteriously illusive glowing fall colors outside the studio... (( See more in our Stories ))
Working together again, our synergy catapults us into new and exciting artistic possibilities. Art, in any form it takes, is playtime for both of us. No matter what we're working on, something totally real and completely original takes shape. -- #meredithmustard and #judytollefson#twoimaginestudios
We both feel that the art comes through us, that we are most effective when we stay out of the way and let it have its way. That's not to say we don't pay attention, we look and notice. But it's more like a "sense" of wonder and "this resonates" that then takes us on a visual journey - Judy Tollefson with artwork by Meredith and her gelliprints.
What most inspires each of us is looking into the abyss. Sitting with ourselves and allowing the outside world to recede; moving further and further into the world of color, form, and process. Allowing it to coalesce into something. Something we've not seen before; something that surprises and brings a smile. Something that resonates with who we each are. Hello friends, it's been awhile, so let me introduce myself. My name is Meredith Mustard. At heart, I'm an Artist (with a capital A), an Art Therapist (not certified but all art IS therapeutic), and an Art Teacher. I consider myself a Maker (looking around, everything I see is potential material for making something), and an Art Facilitator (everyone is an artist! Everyone! Trust the process.) Together with my good friend and fellow artist, Judy Tollefson, I create abstract art to be enjoyed everyday in simple, practical ways. Wall calendars, original paintings, sculptural paintings, and so much more. It's more than a passion, making art and sharing it is just part of who I am. You can learn more about me, my art, and what we do at #twoimaginestudios , on our website. (( link in profile ))
Essentially, everything I do is an art project. Including the gardens and landscapes that surround The Red Studio. Textures and movement. Unexpected elements. There is so much to inspire... - Judy Tollefson
Being inspired by the art created by others, I'm busy collecting art supplies for an upcoming, totally immersive, alternative bookmaking workshop with @orlyavineri . If you're not familiar with her work, Orly is a visual artist who has spearheaded the visual journaling movement. I'm looking forward to learning from her and spending 5 full days with other artists!
