I'm not living in a spacious house where every room in it is light and airy, but privately owning a small two-bedroomed apartment is already beyond my wildest dream. Although every piece of furniture here doesn't match, I believe there's still a way to rearrange them so that I could get a vintage-inspired living space, which I've dreamt of for so long. However, I might need to devote all my spare time to some long-term planning for complete renovations, and meanwhile I'm working on my thesis and I can trurthfully tell that I'm pretty bad at juggling things. So, the idea for an ultimate escape has come into my mind, as I put myself and some others into this painting of my imaginary kitchen-living space, which reflects only our good spirits. Then I can completely chill out while curling up with a book, enjoying the vintage interior design and waiting expectantly for the appetizing meal prepared by chef @_theblackest_
It started about a year ago when I showed my family some photos of them being on a 4-day trip on Cat Ba island, which got my grandma giving a grimace of disgust and my parents pouting angrily. I wasn't surprised by my family's negative reaction to the way they showed their love for each other on Facebook and Instagram, as middle-aged and elderly adults didn't grow up with the experience of being absorbed by smartphones. However, everything has changed. This year, my cousin even brought him in to have lunch with us on a fine spring's day-the day that made everyone feel warm and cozy. In the beginning, we just tried to put him at ease by making small talk, and I thought he would be a bit shy with adults; but later on, it was him who made us very comfortable the other way around. He gave the impression of being open and friendly and particularly more mature than what he was on social networking sites(At least I think he did).
Will he be her partner anytime soon? No one knows yet, but let's enjoy life in the way you are doing. You two are such a cute couple and I'm always in favor of you.
She might never suffer from sleep deprivation, but she chooses to sleep no more than 6 hours per day cause she can't never be able to take her eyes off K-Pop idols. So, instead of sleeping before 11 p.m when there is no deadline to work to, she stays up until 2 a.m. just to download tons of photos of these pop singers onto the computer or devour fan fiction and keeps yawning widely in the next morning class. Also, her face only lights up after school, when she gets home, and then tumbles into bed with her eyes fixed on her phone and starts laughing loudly (Only @_theblackest_ knows what the heck is going on). Or she might sleep like a baby till 9 p.m and then wake up and have dinner.
Such an exciting life😎
The photo taken nearly 3 years ago has brought back vivid memory of we settling down just right next to the vegetable garden to enjoy our leisurely lunch while boiling Banh chung. To the best of my recollection it was fairly cold outside, but it didn't matter cause we were sitting close to the warm fire that we had lit and held for at least 10 hours to get Banh chung completely cooked. My painting doesn't really recall the moment, seeing that the wooden cupboard was not put there on the front porch and the door was not hung with flower pots like that whilst I forget to set the fire and the big metal drum for cooking Banh chung in the center. But everyone is still happy and that's the most important thing.
Tet holiday is still months away😛
My sister is obsessed with flowers, and is engrossed in taking flower photos accordingly. She told me she would buy her own camera if she got scholarships, which is not surprising. However, what baffles me is that although contemporary illustration has recently grown on her and she's put in a lot of effort on drawing and painting her K-Pop idols, she's made up her mind to get a camera instead of a Wacom tablet at affordable price. Buying it or not, or using it for taking flower pics or not, it's her private matter, but there is one thing for sure that flowers have become an obsession with me too😄
Our tiny little garden is not as cluttered as the drawing depicts, but I have such a cluttered mind that I would probably mess up everything, whether it is a beautiful small garden plot or whatever. My mom and dad like everything to be neat and tidy, conversely. Hence, the drawing doesn't illustrate garden goals✨ they might look for.
Anyways, I at least put my dad's favourite plant-The false bird of paradise (I think its name is so cute) with its signature downward hanging flowers and my mom's flower pots on my drawing. Living in a row house doesn't mean you can't be a keen gardener.
The garden brings my family green vegetables such as cabbage, sweet leaf and spinach and it has recently provided me inspiration for my drawings. Before that, I felt like I had taken having an endless supply of fresh vegetables for granted until I realized grandma and aunt put their every effort to plant it so that we all have healthy meals.
This living room is not perfect, considering the pale beige walls that definitely needs covering with new paint and the color of the old curtains, which are not well matched with other things in the new moodboard. The flower vases are beautiful, but someone might think there are too many of them in just a small space. Plus, it's quite time-consuming having to throw dead flowers away and buy new ones if you can't stand staring at empty vases, to say nothing of the cost. The only piece of furniture that I can keep after refurbishing the room is this soft-dark blue sofa with its flattering pillows on it. However, I've half a mind not to renovate anything but replacing the fresh cut flowers with dried ones. This style of interior design is likely to make a comeback in a couple of decades.
This color pencil drawing depicts flowering plants, either hanging down from a wire or being put on a rustic ladder. It also portrays a lovely or even dreamy life some people are enjoying. However, the fact remains that she has yet to settle permanently in anywhere. Plus, she hasn't got that much to put into renovating her old rental apartment and with that, she decides to study harder for the exams instead of having her head in the clouds and doodling her dreamy life all over her class notes.
