I got this post from Common Sense Soapbox on FB. Absolutely tragic. 😥
Repost....“This needs to go viral. SHARE SHARE SHARE
I have been watching the horrific situation in Florida unfold and it’s time to bring some attention to it. The once beautiful beaches of Southwest Florida have become a toxic dumping ground. The beaches are littered with thousands upon thousands of dead fish from tiny little fish to 200 pound tarpons. Whales are dying. Sharks are dying. Dolphins are dying. Sea turtles, manatees, and every other form of local marine life are being found washed up on the shores. What was once crystal blue water is now brown and filled with thick, disgusting algae. Residents are wearing masks just to be able to breathe because the stench of death has filled the hot, humid air. Children are getting sick. Tourists are being hospitalized. Flesh eating bacteria is putting lives at risk.
Now, I am a far cry from a tree hugging environmentalist, but this problem needs to be addressed. This problem is man-made. While red tide is a naturally occurring event and happens every year, the extent of the devastation pictured here is far beyond that of a mere algae bloom.
Please share. Law makers are failing Florida. The media is failing to report the true devastation that’s happening. Maybe if we work together we can find a solution. Florida residents deserve better. Vacationers deserve better. Marine life needs us to be their voice.” #SaveFlorida#redalgae#savefloridawaters#environment#wildlife#toxicalgae#lakeO#florida
