I studied print + broadcast journalism in college and for a long time I saw it as a one dimensional craft.
You write script. You place b-roll on top of said script. Record a voice over.
I also thought there was only hard news & feature news.
But Anthony Bourdain showed me a whole other dimension in story-telling. The way he used cuisine as a vehicle to explore cultures has been the number one inspiration for the Coffee Nomad to (lamely) attempt the same with coffee.
He told stories with such conviction and allowed for his character to paint the experiences in such vivid colors.
I know he inspired you, too.
I know it’s odd to morn about a mentor you never met - and yet here we are.
Anthony Bourdain inspired me to explore the world a little deeper.
How did he inspire you?

If you’re looking for a place to get some work done, drink some good brews, grab a tasty (tasty) sandwich this is the place to post up my friends. 🔅 Charlotte, NC
@smallplanesdc lighting up my morning ✨ from the Agaro region of Ethiopia, this delicate, floral coffee offers up citrus-like notes and a sweet acidity and is super refreshing and perfect to wake up to! Small Planes / I’m excited to try the rest of the coffees sent my way. Love what you all do in D.C. 🤙🏼 What have y’all brewed up this morning 😏⚡️☕️
Shots from the weekend in Savannah ✨
Lately, my life has been looking like this. Pups. Fiancé. And coffee always in my belly. Right now is a super interesting time in coffee for several reasons. Coffees from Ethiopia, Kenya, Costa Rica, Colombia and whole lot of other origins are journeying across the Atlantic and other routes to settle into a warehouse and, hopefully soon after, into their loving home at a roastery. I’ve been slacking on here with you guys because as a coffee trader there’s loads of prep to be done to make sure roasters are getting tastes of what’s to come and that accurate information and stories are accessible to them and therefore ✨ YOU ✨the consumer who gets to enjoy the magical brew. -
And while coffee’s journey is long, it never ceases. When one harvest ends, another is beginning. So it’s weekends like these I cherish where I discipline myself to not hit up every coffee shop in town and just abuse open container laws in the South with loved ones 🍻😉 -
Since I couldn’t get around to it - go ahead and give your Savannah ☕️favorites a shout out below. ✨
🌟Tag your favorite Roaster 🌟
There’s a LOT that goes into your cup of coffee.☕️
I’m not even talking about the whole harvesting, selecting, processing and sourcing and logistics part (but d a m n ). I’m talking about once your Roaster gets that big ol’ bag of fresh green coffee.
Pictured above is a production roast cupping session with the one & only @hexcoffee . Essentially, a sample of every batch roasted is taken to be cupped (think wine tasting but for coffee) and assessed for quality control. From there the tinkering continues to find out how to best roast your cup of coffee so it’s CONSISTENTLY good every roast for every cup (no pressure to you, roasters!)
🌟 Anyway, lets give a shout out to our favorite roasters by tagging them in the comments below! 🌟 y’all are the real MVPs for baking our delicious beans every day.
Who is Supreme Roastworks?
Most coffee folks know of Supreme as the roastery with just a few accolades tucked under their belt.
Barista & co-owner Odd-Steinar Tøllefsen won the… (*take in big breath here*)
2015 - World Brewers Cup Championship in Gothenburg Sweden
2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 - Norwegian National Barista Championships (Brewers Cup category)
2014 - Placed 4th at the World Championships,
2014 - Brewers Cup in Rimini Italy 2014,
2015 - Placed 1st and World Champion at the WBrC in Gothenburg 2015, 2016 - Placed 6th in the WBrc in Dublin 2016.
2016 - Magnus Lindskog won the Norwegian true Aeropress Championships 2016.
And while titles are impressive and have played a role in placing Supreme on the map (and furthering the story and leaders of Scandinavian coffee alongside folks like Tim Wendelboe), Supreme remains special because of its leadership and the community behind the coffee bar. -
So, should you ever find yourself in Oslo, be sure to put Supreme Roastworks on the list. Yes, your coffee will be sourced, roasted and brewed at a top-tier level. But there is something in the intimate, brick-walled, minimalistic space that will also invite you to take a seat, take time sipping on your håndbrygget kafe and get to know Oslo and its community one sip at a time.☕️
“Well, I can’t name just one thing I love about being a barista. I mainly love how we interact with people and I love that it’s a craft to be a barista. You can always improve something and I love having that space of improvement I where I work” - Karoline Kilsti Vassenden of @supremeroastworks -
Upon instantly meeting Karoline, you feel welcomed at Supreme - her work & craft space for over a year now. When she isn’t pulling espresso shots, she’s studying for her Masters degree at the University nearby. It’s folks like her behind the bar that make Supreme Roastworks one of the most inviting places to grab a cup of joe, sit back, meet a stranger and hang out for an hour or two. -
Hope your taking your Sunday like a sweet cup of coffee - nice & slow. ☕️☕️☕️
Huddles in coffee shop corners ☕️
I love capturing the every day.
The mundane & yet moving.
I see this & think I can’t wait for that to me me one day with my soon-to-be husband.
And then I think, well I guess that IS us.
Can’t wait to huddle in all the coffee shop corners with you babe🌟
📽 Bringing back that #behindthebartcn series from Oslo. Life got in the way, but jumping back into it because I want to highlight all the beautiful human beings I’ve met along these fantastical adventures.
This February, @nordicapproach launched its first origin conference in Costa Rica 🌴 @dailycoffeenews wrote about it and it’s a great piece to get a bird eye’s view of Costa Ricas past & present with coffee (link in bio)
Amazing to see it all grow from one strong chica, @cafeticanela 🤙🏼 Also big kudos to the work done by the lady rocking the top bun - head of sourcing 💁🏻♀️at Nordic, the one & only @jobeonekanobee 💫 📸: Pablo Cambronero
Workcation in the mountains 💫
Sometimes the mind needs a reset button to get creative and to get re-focused. Up here in Asheville, I can ignore my on-going To Do list from my apartment (oh, look! Laundry! Oh, look - dishes!) and focus on what I really want to take care of. A good space to take on exciting future projects by day and too much pasta and wine with the fiancé by night. Either way - can’t do a workcation (heck, vacation) without ☕️☕️☕️! -
Do you have any get-away spots? Maybe it’s time to create one 🤓💫
