I haven’t posted for a couple of days about this, because I just wanted a bit of a break from it. Baby loss week was very intense and at times over consuming.
-
Losing a baby affects you in so many different ways, but what you are not prepared for is how it is going to test your relationship.
-
When we first had Henry I was in awe of Katie’s strength. At first we grieved together, then I went back to work and we both kind of slipped into two different worlds and started grieving on our own. Not as a couple and that’s where problems start.
-
We went through a stage of looking at each other and seeing how much we had changed, we were grieving alone, not opening up about how we felt to each other. Not explaining our reasoning behind our own actions, partly because I think you are still trying to figure out how you feel yourself.
-
We both almost became a bit selfish in our grieving. We came to a point where we had to talk about it all and clear the air otherwise, I don’t know where it would have led us.
-
What you need to realise is the person you loved has changed, they are not the same anymore, they might return in the future, they might not. But that can take time and you just have to remember the reasons you had a baby together in the first place and focus on working through things together.
-
You are not the same person, neither of you are and you never will be, but you had a baby together for a reason....find that reason and hold onto it.

Can you build muscle and lose weight working out at home?
-
Question I get asked all the time.
-
The answer is yes!
-
Most of us don’t move enough and eat too much, especially when we are not moving.
-
Our lives have become more hectic, most households both parents work, men in particular are doing less manual jobs then before and even mums who aren’t staying at home with the kids are doing less by sitting at a desk all day.
-
Time is an issue and people think you need an hour at the gym to achieve what you want. But it takes longer than an hour each day when you include the travel there and back etc it’s more like 2hours out of your day.
-
2 hours you don’t have. But you can have just as much of an effect with 20 minute short, sharp workouts. Where you just work hard for 20min and sweat. Do that 3-4 times a week and you are working harder than most people anyway.
-
You don’t need a babysitter either 🙃

Typical evening of exercise in my house, try to squeeze in what I can. Even though I train clients in a gym everyday, I don’t always have time to stay and workout myself.
-
So short sharp 20 min workouts at home are what I need.
-
This actually killed me off and is harder than some peoples hour in the gym.
-
20 EMOM (every minute on the minute) of modified devil press, when I say modified I just didn’t drop my chest to the floor.
-
No music for motivation just a dog chewing a bone, toddler watching a phone and the sound of kids Tv.
-
All these workouts and more will be in my up coming home workout online coaching group.
-
P.S no point in making extra washing by wearing a sweaty tshirt.

Today is International Baby Loss Awareness day.
-
Everyone will be lighting candles at 7pm tonight in memory of a baby lost.
-
Me and Katie have discussed this a lot and at the beginning we were not ready to share a picture of Henry.
-
But I think today is a good day to share him with the world. People use social media to share pictures of their children. So why shouldn’t we share a picture of our amazing boy.
-
We will be lighting our candle for him tonight, this is just one week and one day a year baby loss is openly talked about. But for us we will be living it every day for the rest of our lives.
-
So here he is world our little star in the sky.

Losing weight after having a baby is tough.
-
It’s tough for mum and tough for dad.
-
If it’s your first it’s a shock, your body has changed, maybe you have stretch marks, maybe you gained a stone or more.
-
Maybe you have to work longer hours to support your family so there is less time to workout or find some you time.
-
But losing weight after losing a baby, well that’s a whole different kettle of fish.
-
As the mum you feel like the weight gain and change in your body was all for nothing, the stretch marks all for a lost cause.
-
That’s not true I say to Katie those stretch marks are signs of Henry’s existence, little marks he’s left on you for life and every time I see them I think of him and our journey with him.
-
But losing the weight is tough I think I read somewhere women who lose a baby tend to still be carrying their baby weight and sometimes more 12 months later.
-
It’s no surprise, you have been through a tough time, you have been grieving, comfort eating and thinking about a little someone all the time so there is no time to think about yourself.
-
If you are finding it tough to shift the weight, cut yourself some slack. If your baby survived or unfortunately it didn’t you have still given birth to a human. You have been through a lot, there I plenty of time to lose the weight. Don’t add unnecessary stress to the situation worrying about your weight. You have plenty of time to address that.
-
Mum and dad don’t be so hard on yourselves, you have plenty of time to lose weight.

People are just trying to find something to say that makes you feel better.
-
It’s hard to find the words to help comfort you during a situation like this.
-
Often people say “it’s ok you can have another one”
-
I don’t think they realise what they are saying and how that sounds to you.
-
Because I don’t want another, I want the one I had to leave behind, the one I had to say goodbye to, the one I held, the one I kissed.
-
I know you are just trying to say something to make me feel better. But I don’t want another one I want Henry.

If there is one piece of advice I can give someone to improve your health, it’s to get more sleep.
-
Sleep is completely undervalued and I think in today’s culture it’s almost become cool to be someone who gets by on four hours sleep and is “KILLING IT” if they are telling the truth or not I’m not sure because if I consistently got four hours a night sleep I will be trying to resist killing someone not killing the game.
-
I mean it’s a bit hypocritical of me as I do quite regularly get less than optimal amount of sleep, but that’s purely because of a four year old and a job that is very anti social hours.
-
But improving your sleep will improve your mood, it will mean you won’t reach for high energy junk food to help pick you up, you won’t rely on coffee to get you through life, you will have the energy to do some exercise and move more.
-
So if I could give you some health advice, try and get more sleep and if you have kids under 5 your screwed sorry I can’t help you with that 😂

You have no idea what’s going on inside someone’s head, people are often very good at making it look like they are ok.
-
All we can do is be as kind to strangers as possible, if they came across rude or grumpy, unfortunately there may be a deeper mental reason, it might not just be because they are not nice.
-
It’s world mental health day.
-
So just be nice to people it could change their life.

How do you explain to a three year old their baby brother he thought was coming is no longer coming home?
-
How do you explain to the three year old who was sat in the scan room when we found out?
-
How do you explain to him why mummy is so sad?
-
How do you explain why mummy still has a bump?
-
People said to us at least he is still young he won’t really understand.
-
But he did he knew there was something wrong.
-
At first he said when is he coming home? And we had to keep re explaining what happened. You end up having to be very matter of fact.
-
You can’t protect him anymore, the situation is real and to be honest the truth was the easiest way.
-
All his friends where having brothers and sisters and you could see when he was around a baby he felt awkward, he went quite and he would look at us and say “it’s ok mummy and daddy we have Ben (the dog)”
-
Nothing prepares you for him telling his friends “my brother died” he has been made known to a reality he shouldn’t have to be faced with at such a young age.
-
He’s only three, but I can see it has changed him in so many ways. -
He’s since turned 4 and he’s all of a sudden not a baby boy anymore.
-
He’s a boy with a brother in the sky. He says goodnight to him every night, every time he sees a white feather, he says it’s Henry, every time he sees specs of dust in the sun shinning through the curtains he says it’s Henry.
-
You can’t protect them by lying, they need to know the truth because they will find out one day anyway.

You need to find the root cause.
-
Ask yourself why have you struggled with losing weight, what are the reasons you have put on weight in the first place.
-
When you look back at the last time you was at a weight you was happy at, what had changed since?
-
Family, kids, job, stress, lack of time, lack of education?
-
Sit down with a pen and paper and write down the things that you think are the cause of your weight gain.
-
Then go through the list and try and figure out a solution to each problem, but just remember some there may not be a solution at the moment but one day there will.
-
It’s not all about jumping straight into another diet, figure out why you keep finding yourself needing to diet again and that could be the answer to you never needing to again.

Muscle up practice.
-
One of my goals is to be able to do unassisted bar muscle ups.
-
It’s more just a technique thing for me but I wanted to give you all some moves you can work on that will help you get stronger for muscle ups.
-
Pull ups, you need to be able to do 10ish straight pull ups before you can really progress on to muscle ups.
-
Dips, improve your bodyweight dips so you have the strength to push yourself up above the bar.
-
Hollow bodies holds, build your strength up to be able to hold a hollow body for about 30 seconds or more. During the top part of the muscle up your core and legs get into the position of a hollow body. -
Those are a couple of areas you can start to work on to get to your first muscle up!
