@billysundaychicago has an absolutely fantastic selection of vintage amari, with some dating back as far as the 1920's. @ladyaspartame and I decided to make our own flight of 30-50 year old drams of Milanese Fernet. It was a great way to end the evening. Bonus: they also had vintage rum and the best collection of reasonably priced 12-15 year old scotches. It's become our date spot every time I visit the city.
Sipping scotch whisky at @queenmarytavern in Chicago. Started with the peated fruit-forward nature of #laphroaigcairdeas and followed with #bruichladdich 2010. It's quite the way to stave off the windy chills of Chicago this time of year. The bar's rustic ambience is only second to its spirit selection.
Raising a ruckus at @billysundaychicago whilst on vacation. Decided to switch off barley and switch on agave with "Keep off the Grass." It provides a nice, floral front with a wonderfully herbaceous finish. Presentation needs no description, lol.
Decided to just fiddle around with new approaches today and test out some samples from @delmagueymezcal and some @thebittertruthcompany products from home. I went a little crazy with the @angosturahouse but it's purty so who cares?
Pinche del Maguey
2.0 oz. Vida del Maguey Mezcal
0.75 oz Blackberry jalapeño syrup (DM me for portions. It's very good)
0.25 lime juice
0.5 lemon juice
1 dash of orange bitters
1 dash of grapefruit bitters
1 egg white
Reverse dry shake. Serve up in a rocks glass. Garnish to taste. Cheers!
Life's a beach. You can turn some really gnarly liqeuers into something great if you tap into your own creative potential in lieu of judging it.
Just dump 3 ounces of a Malibu-esque 'whiskey' and go to town!
