I’ve been wearing a lot of hats lately (like so many of us RD2BEs and Dietitians do) and so my creative flow has been pretty much non-existent. 😳
.
I try to style and take pictures but I keep hitting a wall because I haven’t been able to be present during my shots.
(Also, I just “built” a food photography studio and I’m still learning how to shoot in the new environment.)
.
But I’m not gonna stop posting because I’m not going to give up. My feed represents my progression of growth as a student, as a dietetic professional, and as a creative gluten-free foodie 👩‍🍳
And sometimes to grow, we have to take a few steps back before we can more forward.

So sorry I’ve been taking a few steps back in my pictures but I’m hoping with winter break will come a new spark of inspiration and growth!

I am not much of a drinker, in fact I think I might be one of those people who are alcohol intolerant, however when it comes to Glögg, I can’t pass it up.

Glögg is Swedish mulled wine and it’s one of the things my family PINES over in the winter. It’s warming, delicious, and it reminds me my years in Sweden 😍❤️!

If you hear that from your server, be on high alert. They are probably the same person who will bring you your gluten-free salad covered in croutons...

Granted I know some issues stem from the kitchen, unfortunately you don’t have access to the kitchen, you have access to your server. You have to trust this stranger with communicating your needs (unless you have an allergen card) so assess their capabilities and give them an extra hand if they seem like they need it (or YOU need it)
.
What are some things you say or ask your server when dining out? And “warning” phrases you watch out for?

The easiest way I can explain how important it is to avoid cc when preparing gluten-free foods is to treat gluten containing foods 🍞 like raw meat 🥩.
.
Meaning wash your hands (or change your gloves) after every time you handle them and switch to handle gluten-free friendly foods.

This goes especially if your trying to keep a gluten-free friendly kitchen and or are trying to prepare safe foods for friends and family!

- Slowly incorporating them more and more into my diet
- Cooking them in different ways 🥘🍳
- Cooking them with spices 😋

Diet is one of the MOST intimate decisions you can make for yourself. Choosing what to nourish your body with is so personal and is no ones business (EXCEPT in the case where it’s harmful, like with eating disorders).

Vegan, Gluten-Intolerant, and Celiac people tend to get a bad rap when it comes to their diet. “You’re doing it for attention”, “are you sure you can’t eat that?”, “why do you have to be so difficult” are all just a few quick judgments people make.
.
On the other hand, people following restricted diets can be cruel to each other. Many celiacs judge people who are gluten-intolerant for avoiding gluten, or criticize choices celiacs make for themselves related to cc. Vegans can make judgements of non-vegans. Judge each other for how strict or not strict they are.
How can we expect respect when we aren’t respecting others?

What we really need on ALL fronts is support. Because no one knows your body better than you do, you are the expert on what makes you feel good and we all need to support that and your journey.

A form of self-care I practice nearly every day is what I am dubbing “Mindfulness and Morning Coffee”
.
Everyday I try to be full present while making my pour over coffee and then I make sure I take the time to ENJOY it. This is something I learned to do by watching my Grandparents do it EVERY morning.
.
And on occasion, I’ll make myself a quick treat, like this peppermint latte (recipe link in bio), and really take a few minutes out of my morning to enjoy it.
