If only everyday my kitchen looked this clean, I had this much help on the production & creative side, and had my hair and makeup just magically done for me every morning...
.
Well it would be pretty boring, don’t you think? 😂 .
.

Cookbook world is a funny thing sometimes- some of it feels so far from real life— all beautiful and styled. And then other (aka, most) parts are some of the most chaotic & messy things I’ve ever done.
.

Kinda like life, I guess: all beautifully weaved in and mashed together. Maybe that’s why cookbooks are such a physical and timeless form of art. Enough to dream and be inspired by, and enough action that’s actually needed from us to make it happen in real life.
.

The beautiful, and the real. Hopefully with both made much more simple, coming next year✌🏼#cookbooking #simplyrealhealth

Today on QUESTION MONDAY (in my IG stories): When did you cut out coffee/wine/other foods to help with prepping your body for pregnancy?
.

My answer: I didn’t ever cut anything out completely, especially the things that I loved and that brought me joy. I just did them more mindfully and intentionally, instead of out of habit or just because.
.

I don’t believe in extremes with anything, especially food. I used to- that used to be my life, with everything so black and white. But the truth? Nothing is sustainable (or very joyful) that way.
.

Trying to be perfect is exhausting (mentally and physically) and can be an extra stress on your body that you don’t need- esp if you’re trying to heal or shift in any way.
.

So now, getting healthier always requires all three areas for me: physical, mental & emotional. And spiritual too, if you’re willing to go there.
.

It’s a process of learning yourself best— what you love, what you can easily or need to let go of, of trying new things all the time, and not being stuck in autopilot.
.

It’s truly my favorite thing to teach- this philosophy and way of life that goes way way beyond just food, but that always has to start there for one that’s truly intentional and alive, in all the ways.
.

Anyone with me? 👇🏼 . (And if you have a Q, come play with me on Mondays! Catch up with all of them in my story highlights under Q + A 💓

Because sometimes, you just gotta buy yourself some flowers, take the whole day off of your phone, take a long walk & breathe in some fresh air, and let Sunday slowly soothe your soul. 💓
.

Self care doesn’t have to fancy (or only on Sundays for that matter) for it to be good. In fact, they’re best when they’re plentiful and sprinkled everywhere in our days: a simple meal, a morning bevvie, a shower, a oil diffused, a phone call, a workout, or a little playlist that lights up your soul.
.

What are your favorite tiny ways to take care of yourself? Maybe even one you can do tomorrow or this week?👇🏼 #dailyjoys #ahealthylife

Weekend rituals these days ✌🏼. Avocado mayo (coming in the new cookbook), heirlooms, and iceberg on toasted GF bread.
.

And with it, my silent lil wishes that heirloom season would last my whole entire life (but whhhhy not?). Peach season too. So if you haven’t bought both at a farmers market yet this summer, GO DO IT NOW. That’s your weekend assignment. The store ones don’t even compare 🤚🏻.
.
Fact: there is no greater joy than eating either one, with a sprinkle of fat sea salt and olive oil for the toms, or a cold and juicy lil peach, wrapped in a giant napkin like a little kid. #dailyjoys of simplest kinds 🤚🏻

In this week’s rendition of WHAT TO MAKE WHEN ITS TOO HOT TO COOK: The Cobb Wedge Salad 🔥.
.

My summer food rule: it's gotta be fresh, taste good, under 15 minutes to make, AND be something that you can eat the next day too.
.

Because yes— REAL LIFE is busy, but that's never an excuse to not take care of yourself. 👊🏻
.

My fierce belief? That your food should compliment and make your life better and more vibrant, not harder. If you agree, then take this baby for a test run... or tag someone who loves easy, healthy recipes! 🏃🏻‍♀️.
.

Grab the full recipe up on the blog, and in my profile link tonight too 👊🏻

When he’s older, this is how I want this babe to remember me: always around good food, but never in a fussy or complicated way. Messy bun, workout clothes and all, still playing and trying and testing things, having fun whatever I’m doing, and not ever taking myself too seriously.
.

And always with a full heart doing it, feeding people I love, and bringing us all back to good in tiny ways every day.
.

I want him to know that you can work hard for your dreams, and do and create anything you want to do in this world. To follow whatever it is that lights you up, and do it with all your heart. It’s not always easy, but it’s always always worth it💓
.

Thanks to @caskro for capturing this lil moment today, pregnant and cookbooking- creating two big and beautiful things that will no doubt become big pieces of my life story. Quietly and steadily both of them: slowly growing and forming more each day. It’s not a shot that will ever make the book, but is one I’ll probably treasure more for all that it captures about this exact season ✨#cookbook #simplyrealkitchen #pregnant

Today on QUESTION MONDAY (in my insta stories) ✨, there were a lot of questions about how to make eating healthier, easier. How to save time, and also how to be calmer and more peaceful (ya know, internally) about the whole process.
.

My response? Simplifying your food, simplifies your life.
.

Just like our phones and computers, we all have OLD programming in our heads that sometimes need updating. And with food, this is soo true.
.

Like, whatever weird food pyramid stuff we learned in school/diet tips from a magazine you read when you were 17/ your parents own programming on food just isn’t gonna help you live your best, most alive & happiest life. ✨
.
The best way to start? Ignore all the quick fixes and flashy stuff (this is harder than you’d think). And just think about SIMPLICITY.
.

Food that is simple is always the best. For your body, for your schedule, and for your mindset. And when that happens as your norm, think of all the things you could do that really matter.
.

Leave me a ❤️ below if you agree 👇🏼
.
And if you need a little encouragement or help learning and getting empowered, I’ve got a free webinar all about this real food stuff up in my profile link above. Go grab it, it’s only up for a few short weeks!

Just posted one of the longest blogs of my life. On my journey to pregnancy & motherhood: the real version. 💓
.
I’m so SO nervous to share it, but I think it’s important to- human to human, woman to woman. Our stories are what make us, and are what can help other people not feel so alone in their own journey.
.
It’s a different story than most- so consider this your official warning before reading.
.

Now in your little inboxes, on the blog, and in the link above today. ✨

I can’t hold it in any longer.... you guys: we got a huge national BOOK DEAL for the next cookbook! ✨🙈🎉
.
It’s been in the works for a year- as I’m sure you guys have seen from my behind-the-scenes stories. With @caskro by my side, we couldn’t be more thrilled to get this beauty out into the world EVERYWHERE books are sold, next fall (2019, for those of you counting down the days). 💓
.
It’s a labor of love and patience for sure, and I just can’t wait for you to have and hold it in your hands, and for it to work it’s magic in your own kitchens and lives.
.

And of course, take you along every step of the way, because without YOU, none of this would be possible 🙏🏻👊🏻

Today for QUESTION MONDAY (in my IG stories), someone asked me what I think about diets like the keto diet, vegan diet, paleo diet, etc. Diets that maybe DO have real food involved in it someway.
.
My answer? Just my personal opinion, after years and years of doing almost every diet out there. But ultimately, no organized diet ever fixes the root cause or addresses the core issues of our relationship to food- everything we use food for besides actual hunger, and old programming that no one’s ever taught us how to clear from our brains.
.
The problem? Diets tune people OUT of their bodies.. and put them on autopilot following a set of nicely laid out directions, but what actually needs to happen for a lifestyle change that lasts is a tuning IN process, not out. ✨
.

It’s not about finding the “perfect” way to eat or workout— it’s about learning your own body IN and OUT, the best you can. And learning to consistently feed it well: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. That’s what being truly healthy as a lifestyle is, in my mind. Anyone agree?
.

Does it require some more “work” on our part? Yes. And it’s a intentional growth process to learn about real food in a non-trend oriented way, and figure out what works for you personally. It’s not a sexy quick fix, which is why most people don’t want to do it.
.
But the end result? Way less stress. Way less guilt. Way less overwhelm. Way less caring about the coolest trends. The goal? To feel calm, empowered by, and joyful around food and in taking care of yourself too. For the rest of your life.
.

It’s why I do what I do, especially in my one-on-one work and in the #simplyreallife program (that comes back this fall)- because I feel like this part isn’t talked or taught about. But it’s my favorite thing in the world to teach and guide because it MATTERS. It changes everything. In the best way. ❤️

Heat wave ready ✌🏼🌊
.
A little iced organic cold brew (did you know it has waaay less acid that espresso & regular coffee?) + organic heavy whipping cream (did you know it has waaay less lactose than milk or cream, so most people digest it much better?).
.

I like to whip it for a minute in the @vitamix to make it fluffy but you can also just add a splash right from the fridge and it’s 😍.
.
Plus a little cinny and sprinkle of unrefined crunchy cane sugar (because, ambiance, ya know?).
.

Well, now you know ✌🏼Because friends don’t let friends drink bad coffee, tag someone who loves it the most, below 💓. #dailyjoys

Hot summer days are for childhood throwbacks (slightly upgraded, of course) ✌🏼On tap this weekend? A little homemade Maple Lemonade. 🍋
.

It’s a new one from the next cookbook I’ve been working on, if you wanna help me take it for a little test run 👊🏻
.
To make: juice 4 ripe lemons and strain them of seeds + 8 cups water + 1/4 cup maple syrup. Mix together well and chill.
.

Optional to freeze into popsicles, flavored iced cubes, lemonade icees, add a little black or green iced tea to, or.. ya know, add a little vodka if the feeling is right ☀️
.
My current fav in mocktail life over here? A big splash of this mixed with @perrier lemon sparkling and fresh mint or basil.
.

The #bevvielady says do it. Tag someone below who would love a little healthier cool down this weekend 🍋☀️

Cooking when it’s too hot out? NOPE. Not happening over here🙅🏻‍♀️Anyone else?

My method? Chop, toss, drizzle, and DONE👊🏻

My summer meal planners know this drill well. Week 2 for them this week has this baby on tap— because it’s also too hot to think, right?
.
The Cantaloupe, Green Bean & Tomato Salad. Just like it sounds. Add a little fresh basil, mozzarella, red wine vinegar, sea salt and pepper and you’re good to go.

This is how we do around here- 5 ingredients or less, 10-15 mins or less, all made with REAL FOOD ✌🏼Eating healthy doesn’t have to be so hard, if you do it this way.

A little brie, a little gf crostini or toasted sourdough & some big flaky sea salt and YES PLEASE ✌🏼 It’s my summer meal go-to, more times than I should probably admit.
.

And after a full day of #cookbooking and shooting for book # 2 today, it’s all that’s gonna happen for din tonight. Reason number a million why summer is the best.
.

Also- we’ve got some BIG NEWS about the book, that I can’t wait to share with you guys next week! Anyone have guesses? ❤️
.
(Ps- if you make this lil combo this weekend, use heirloom tomatoes. They’re to die for right now. Or peaches instead. Use a soft cheese of your choice (goat, brie, mozzarella, burrata). Fresh basil, don’t skimp. I love toasting gf sourdough with olive oil first if you don’t have crostini available. And that saaaaaaalt. It’s everything).
.

Happy weekending indeed 👌🏻❤️
