Aggy’s class picture! Have you ever seen a more adorable group of kids? So thankful for these sweet friends of hers, and her AMAZINGLY talented teachers who pour into her everyday and have helped her blossom. Here’s to another year of overcoming obstacles and growing in wisdom, knowledge, and confidence. The sky’s the limit baby girl. #proudmom#nevergiveup#theskysthelimit
Happy 9th birthday to my beautiful girl, Agnes! Aggy, you are funny and fierce. Smart, sweet, and sassy. Caring and kind. Loving and oh, so lovable. I can’t believe how big you are getting. You make me so proud of the little lady you are growing up to be. I have no doubt you’re going to be a world changer. I love you more then you’ll ever know and am so thankful that we get to celebrate you on this special day ❤️🎉🎁🎂🎈#birthdaygirl#9yearsold#wheredidmybabygo#karamojongwarriorprincess
Yesterday, we enjoyed celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving with some of our Canadian, American, and Ugandan friends here in Jinja. We had all the delicious traditional foods, and I even found some Canadian swag in the central market. We have so much to be thankful for and hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday too 🇨🇦🍁🦃 #canadianthanksgiving#grateful#thankful#Ilovecanada
“While much of the world seems to be getting more and more divisive, I’m going to be holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, greeting all I meet, exercising patience with others, and smiling at strangers. I’ll do this as often as I have the opportunity. I will not stand idly by and let children live in a world where unconditional love is invisible and being rude is acceptable. Join me in showing love and respect to others. Find your way to swing the pendulum in the direction of love. Because today, sadly, hate is gaining ground. Love must begin somewhere and love will overcome hate. Imagine the difference if we each purposefully love a little more.” 💖 #lovewins#loveothers#bekind#showcompassion#bethechange
@justinpjtrudeau and @eltonjohn meeting in Ottawa about an AIDS free future is the best thing I’ve seen all week ❤️ #proudcanadian#lovemycity#lovemypm#HIV /AIDS #AIDSfreefuture#Justintrudeau#Eltonjohn
Re-gram: The work of Elton John and David Furnish’s foundation, @ejafdn Elton John AIDS Foundation, is making a difference around the world, and I’m looking forward to working together to create an AIDS-free future. Elton & David, thanks for your continued leadership on this & for the meeting today.
I’m so incredibly grateful for these 2 selfless girls. They have never minded having other children stay with us, even if it means less time and attention from me. They are always eager to welcome others in, and help out however they can. #mommyslittlehelpers#sisters#fosterfamily#lovethemso 💖
2 and a half years ago, some generous visitors donated a large sac of baby clothes, kids clothes, shoes, and school supplies for JT and I to donate as we saw fit.
We went through everything and packed up 2 totes to take to 2 villages that we knew could use the supplies.
A particular baby onesie in a size “9 months” caught my eye. It was adorable, and pink, my favorite color. I decided to hang on to it “just in case”. In case a biological baby or a foster baby who could wear it came into our lives.
Well 2 and a half years had passed and I completely forgot about that onesie... until this weekend.
Just as our lives were returning to normal, I was informed about a vulnerable family that was being exploited. I will spare the personal details, but I will say that the family is going to be fine and while they are getting the help they need, we are fostering one of their children... a 9 month old baby while she is getting the help she needs. 💖
I’m a day late, but happy #worldrhinoday 🦏 . Rhino’s are beautiful, majestic, gentle giants that are unfortunately on their way to extinction due to poaching. . Rhino poaching has escalated in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries. Rhino horn is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but increasingly common is its use as a status symbol to display success and wealth. . Despite popular belief, there horns are not made from ivory, but made from Keratin, an extremely tough protein, that is a major component found in our skin, hair, as well as our nails. It is the key structural material making up the outer layer of human skin, and it is also the key structural component of our hair and nails. . If you are looking for ways to help;
Don't buy rhino horn products. The illegal trade in rhino horn poses the greatest threat to rhinos today.
Adopt a Rhino or donate to an organization that protects Rhinos. There are many wonderful conservation organizations that have these programs (contact me for details). Use and support sustainable wood, paper and palm oil. Donate to WWF to support their work in Africa and Asia. And most importantly EDUCATE and Spread the word! . #rhinos#endangeredspecies#extinction#banpoaching#poacherssuck#conservation#education
In the midst of dealing with a bout of homesickness yesterday, I went to visit a friend who is like family. Upon my arrival, I found her rocking a Tim Hortons t-shirt all the way from Canada. It sounds silly but It was a little reminder of home that I needed ☺️ 🇨🇦 🇺🇬 #friendswhoarefamily#timhortons#timhortonsswaginuganda
And off they go... After 4 weeks off, today the girls head back to school. With them gone, and JT slowly increasing his hours at work, we are starting to return to a sense of normalcy which will be healthy and beneficial for our whole family 💖 #backtoschool#lovethemso#mygirls#bekindbraveandwise
The girls head back to school tomorrow so we just finished making one of their favorite snacks. Protein power balls! They are all natural, plant based, and sugar free. They taste delicious and really satisfy your sweet tooth. They are also super easy to make. In a large bowl, mix;
. Oats . All natural peanut butter 🥜 . Chia seeds
. Honey . Cacao powder
. Cinnamon 🌱 form into little balls, refrigerate over night, and voila! You can also experiment with different types of nut butter, seeds, shredded coconut, and dried fruit. Enjoy 😊
It has been over 5 years since this guy came to live with the girls and I as a foster child. He stayed with us during a critical time in his family’s life. Fortunately, he was able to be reunited and resettled with his biological Mother and siblings. It truly has been one of the most successful reunification’s I have ever seen. He is, and has been thriving ever since he returned home all those years ago. He loves his family and he loves his village. Lucky for us, we get to see him a few times a year during school holidays. It’s been wonderful having him here over the last few weeks. Tomorrow, he’ll make the long treck back home so he can begin school on Monday. We’ll miss him, but are so thankful that no matter what, he’ll always be a part of our family. 💖
