i lost my baba when i was 19, more years ago than i would like to believe. i wish i would’ve absorbed everything she could have taught me. i wish i would’ve asked more questions about her life, spent more time with her in the kitchen, asked her to teach me to sew. of course more time still would never be enough, no matter how much more it was. but i can still hear her laugh, the sharpness in her voice when we did something we weren’t supposed to (hoping i wasn’t the one who got caught), and the pure joy and excitement when we came to visit. i can still feel the love she had for everyone and everything around her, and how she put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. so i was excited when i was asked to have her sewing machine. even though sewing may have been a chore for her, hopefully i can use it to spread a little more love around the world. i think she would’ve liked that. now to get the hubby to figure out how to open it! 🙈 .
So I’ve been struggling to balance working full time and raising a very crazy, high energy 2 year old. There’s been illneses, and teething, and meltdowns, but also lot of laughs and many play dates in the back yard. We planted a garden this year and love watching it grow. On top of all that my role keeps changing at work, and we had a large E. coli outbreak back in April that kept me up for many nights, that I still haven’t fully recovered from. I give what I can and often neglect myself but I think it’s time to get back behind the sewing machine. So here’s to the start of a new month and hopefully a happier me! #august#monthlymarker
So my quilty bff @cozy.chloe.creations is amazing and she is looking for help making feather blocks for a charity quilt. She was inspired by the REDress project which is trying to bring awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis here in Canada. Hello Instagram friends! I need your help for a new charity project.
I have been inspired by the "REDress Project" which is trying to bring awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis here in Canada. The red dresses are used to symbolize the Missing women and they are hung up places to draw attention. It is very haunting and sad.
Canada is always seen as this land full of nice polite people, but the way we treat our indigenous peoples is pretty shameful and seems to be our dirty little secret.
I want to make a feather quilt similar to these inspiration images with a black background and red feathers. 💖💖So now onto the help I need from you guys! I am looking for some volunterers to help me make red feathers. If you would be willing to help me with this please message me. Once I pick the pattern I am going with I will send it to you. 💖💖 When the quilt is done I will be selling or auctioning it off and all of the money will be donated to a charity (yet to be determined) which helps indigenous women in need.
Thank you in advance friends! ❤
