Guided these Seattle ladies on their first fly fishing trip today. @deletetoast caught her first trout on the fly. @evarees became proficient at casting, apart from losing six flies. Both learned how to row a drift boat, only crashing with a few rocks mid-stream. Overall it was a successful day, and I finished unscathed. 😎
Solo mission, swinging flies for Coho Salmon on the Sol Duc River. Stumbled on a guy fishing this very stretch of river as I exited the trail from the forest. He educated me on the history of the Salmon runs, which passes through where I stand, upstream to their spawning grounds. Solid dude, who took the time to chat with a newbie Salmon fisherman like me. Missed the high tide and the daily Salmon run. I didn’t catch a thing, but learned a lot about the history of the Olympic Peninsula fishery. The knowledge gained from exploration is what it’s all about sometimes. Left the weekend feeling a little bit better about life outside the Seattle bubble.
The magic of dusk on the Skykomish. This was my first fly fishing trip to Washington. We arrived just in time to swing the fly an hour before dark. The mood was right on. Revisited this side of the Cascades looking for cabin land on Sunday. This snap reminds me why I should explore this place more often.
