"All big people are simple, as simple as the unexplored wilderness. They love the universal things that are free to everybody. Light and air and food and love and some work are enough. In the varying phases of these cheap and common things, the great lives have found their Joy."
Carl Sandburg said he needed solitude to get his writing done and just enough distance between his house and the goat barn. I fell in love with the story of this famous poet and entrepreneur who relocated to the mountains of NC from Michigan for a milder climate, ample pastures, meadows and the mountains 😁🙆♂️👍
A memorable weekend in Boone, NC visiting my Mountaineer family. I am so grateful to be a part of this special place. I envisioned a home to come back to when I graduated and my wish came true. Cool to see my name up on the App to NFL board and to see old teammates and coaches. Very proud of @winthegame and his staff cracking the top 25 for the 1st time in school history. Keep it rollin baby 👍🙆♂️😊
Back in my happy place today. Had an amazing experience today meeting with a V.I.P. client I've worked with for over a year and a half remotely. We met in person for the 1st time. He drove nearly 2 hours to meet with me in the mountains at 8 a.m. to go for a mountain hike together. This individual has shown such dedication and determination to get healthy under challenging circumstances. He hasn't been perfect but by having a set of fundamental health principles to bring him back to center, it has helped him to get continued results. To see him today will be the highlight of my trip. Why? Because when you have a chance to connect and help someone change their life in a positive way, it's the one of the most fulfilling and inspiring accomplishments as a coach.
Have a heart! For my lil guys big day we celebrated with nothing but the best with this delicious grass-fed beef heart from Miller's Organic Farm. Packed with minerals and vitamins such as iron and vitamin B 12 with a greater density than muscle meat, this tender sweet tasting organ is one of our favorites. Checkout the dark red color of this plump pump 👍👍, truly a delicacy 😊.
My #1 fan who is always by my side, my Mom ❤ Love the way my Mountaineers are playing this year. We have only 1 loss to a top ranked Penn State team in overtime. I love the explosive offense that @winthegame Head Coach Scott Satterfield is running. I just wish we would have run the same offense when we were playing together in college and he was our QB. Keep it up Satt! Proud of you. See ya soon 👍👍🙆♂️
Swapping out my Sunday deadlifts and strength work for some #slacklining and slow movement outdoors. If your not getting the results you want and deserve then make changes and seek guidance. A different perspective can make all the difference.
I wanted to go for a swim so I walked down the street and jumped into the bay. Primal Joe's weekend challenge :
stop what your doing, turn off your screens, and jump into a natural body of water like the ocean, bay, river or lake. Post it and tag me @primal_joe 🏞🏝🏖👍
What a workout this afternoon of one of my favorite things to do #SUP . We left from a beautiful environmental preserve, paddled across the bay, through a rain storm and out to the ocean where this pic was taken. This was such a great outing and challenging to say the least because the waters were so choppy. Looking forward to hanging again with my friend @skypaddle. This guy really knows the ropes when it comes to stand up paddle and knows this neck of the woods very well. Check out my IG stories for more footage of the beautiful views.
Hey folks check out my #primaljoe indoor work station 🙆♂️ I'm working on a very exciting project to help more people get healthy and even I have to hunker down and work indoors. But what I've done is I've optimize my indoor workstation so that it keeps me performing at a high-level mentally and physically. Try optimizing your workstation at home or at your workplace using these valuable tips 🤗
@anna_kasterova has put in serious work over the last year and it shows, including landing the cover of @tatler_russia magazine. We started shortly after she gave birth to her son. She did not shy away from big movements like front/back squats and going heavy on the deadlift. She has changed her body a lot and has developed a high level of overall functional strength needed to be a mother. Congrats 👍👍
Sunrise energy work this a.m. of tai chi/chi gong. This morning movement I've started to practice recently with the help of @certifiedhealthnut. Its added a nice balance to the work - out activities I do and general stress management. It adds flexibility, stability, mobility and helps lubricate my joints and fascia. In the short time I've been doing this I already feel improved joint mobility. From years of playing football my joints took a beating including multiple surgeries. Now I have to repair and take care of them because it's all I've got and I've got a long journey ahead of me. I prefer to do this outdoors making sure I'm supported by the energy of the sun and earth ❇♾🏯
Why spend a bunch of $$$ going to an expensive spa to get exfoliated when you can head down to the beach and do it for free 🙋♂️ Plus reap the benefits of connecting to the earth, setting your circadian rhythms, and feel really dam good. A great way to start the weekend " Primal Joe " style 👱♂️👊👍
Lots of luck to @ilyakovalchukofficial and @e.malkin71geno in this up coming season. NHL training camp is getting started and I'm confident these men are ready. Lots of good energy in our off season workouts between them. 👍🏃♂️👊🤙
Today marks the 1 year anniversary since Hurricane Irma hit, totaling my car. When it happened I was bummed out because I really liked my car and I knew my settlement wasn't going to be good. So I picked up my bmx bike (😂😂😂) and began to commute temporarily till I bought a new car. During the 1st 2 days of my commute I met a number of people and who commuted regularly on bike and discovered a whole new " underground " of cyclists.
So I decided to give it a try, I stopped in to the local bike store picked up a pure fixie bicycle and began to commute around the city. I didn't expect to go very long maybe a couple of months, but then after receiving a call from my buddy @the_dan_martin_fitness who told me he once commuted for an entire year really got me motivated and I decided to set a goal for 1 year. I started out like a ball of fire commuting almost every day on my bike and after a while I found myself burning out. I began to mix in my commutes with Uber and Lyft respectively. I will admit during the summer months as hot as it was and with the rain I used a lot more of Uber/Lyft then I wanted to. The thing that I noticed the most in the last year commuting on bike was the reduction in stress. Driving in traffic was not my favorite thing to do. It also made my life more interesting, the things you see on a bike you definitely do not see while driving in a car. In addition to those the increase of daily movement has been beneficial and has opened my eyes to a whole new form of transportation and way of living 🚴♂️🚵♂️🏃♂️👍🤙
An amazing notable meal I made yesterday. Chicken heart salad! I'm not going to lie, I was on fire after I ate this meal. Different from some other meals that I have eaten, this gave me a boost of energy like no other! Most likely because of the high iron content which is needed to produce hemoglobin and transport oxygen through the blood which can boost your energy as well as your immune system and help heal any cuts you may have. Other health benefits to eating chicken hearts include quality protein and essential amino acids. These tiny poultry pumps are high in B vitamins which helps with stress, fatigue , problems with the heart and blood vessels! So it turns out that eating heart is good for the heart 😁😁👍🤙 easy to cook, I simply baked them at 375 for about 25 minutes.
Love me some pastured duck eggs from Miller's Organic Farm delivered by @myhealthyfoodclub. Notice the deep orange color, the consistency of the egg white and the thickness of this shell. This is a true sign of nutrient density from a healthy duck. Contrary to conventional/factory raised eggs that are light in color and run all over the place. Egg yolks were my lil guy's first solid food as an infant thanks to the recommendation from Dr. Sally Fallon and her book "Nourishing Traditions". The fats and nutrients in egg yolks promote brain development just like breast milk does.
Home is where the heart is. Garage workout of 6 deadlifts and 1 or 2 legless rope climbs for 10 rounds. Later rounds were tough on the grip. Making your training convenient and easily accessible will lead to consistency, long term sustainability and greater chance reaching your goals. With a busy schedule and with traffic in Miami not getting any better I find training at home works best for me. My commute is like 10 seconds. Buy some equipment for the house or find a facility near by or both. Which ever one it is just get movin.
