One perk of commuting on bike throughout the city is discovering neighborhood farmers markets like this one. Had I been in a car I'm not sure I would have stopped because parking is difficult. When possible I always try support local organic farming as opposed to large food conglomerates that pump chemicals into our food and soil. The energy and community surrounding these markets is special.
Everyone needs some coaching including the coach. Thanks @miamibeachtraining for a kick ass workout with @ilyakovalchukofficial and getting me out of my comfort zone. Looking forward to more fun 👍🙆♂️😅
Before sitting down on the beach for some cold, gluten free beers, break a sweat, move your body around in the sand, go for a swim in the ocean and get in touch with nature. Those brews will taste much better. Happy 4th of July from Primal Joe! Stay healthy my friends.
Way to go @carowozniacki on winning the Eastbourne International today, 2nd title of this year and 29th career overall. Your conditioning and mental resilience was second to none. Proud of you girl! Great momentum heading into Wimbledon next week 👊👍👍
Making it look easy today. @ilyakovalchukofficial getting in some off season work. "Alternative Friday's" is what I like to call these workouts. Fun, competitive out of the box stuff generally performed outdoors. Pro athletes need motivation just like me and you. Changing workout structure, the scenery, and keeping it fun are all ways to do that. Devil's Alley F.I. 😂👊👍
Here's to graduating from college and having the job of your dreams - playing in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers. One moment I was walking on college campus of Appalachian State the next I was sitting in linebackers meetings with my idol Junior Seau. This was a dream come true at such a young age. Having lost my father 1 year before of a heart attack, this was a big deal for my mom and I. I am grateful for having had the chance to play at that level and for the Chargers signing me as a rookie free agent. I am grateful for having my mom as my #1 fan then and now and working in the field of health. Football took a toll on my body but it was that path of healing I needed to experience so to help others.
Thank you everyone for the amazing response to the question I posted a few days back which was, "What's your #1 struggle when it comes to nutrition?" I am working on a very exciting project and all this great feedback is going help. I will try and answer all the questions over the next few weeks so thank you again for your time. If you haven't responded yet please do now!
Congrats to Kovy @ilyakovalchukofficial on returning to the NHL at 35 yrs old and signing a 3 year deal with the L.A. Kings. The @lakings get a great player with the heart of a champion, incredible work ethic, and the desire to win the Stanley Cup. Kovy trains hard, but more importantly he trains intelligently which keeps him competing at a high level year in and year out giving him longevity in his sport. Best of luck my friend 🦁👍👍
Arguably 2 of the best hockey players in the world, 2018 Olympic gold MVP, @ilyakovalchukofficial and 3 time Stanley Cup winner, MVP for the Pittsburgh Penguins @e.malkin71geno. Off season training is in full swing 👊
Its been 9 months since my car was considered a total loss after hurricane Irma. I decided I would commute on bike a day or 2 before buying another car. Instead I discovered a whole new world, bought a new bike and 9 months later I'm still at it. My goal is one year and with the summer months here it will be challenging at times with the heat and rain. I do off- set days with Uber or Lyft when I'm tired or if its raining. This experience has has opened up my eyes to different forms of transportation in a growing city and it's kinda fun! I sometimes take a citibike, trolley or metro bus. I think the greatest benefit to my health has been the reduction in stress more so than the increase of daily movement plus the thought of sitting behind a steering wheel in traffic really does not excite me.
By far the best thing that has happened to me and greatest accomplishment to date is being a father. It has taught me so much in every aspect of my life including my health. Happy and healthy Father's Day to all dads out there. Take care of your health so you can chase your kids around all over the place 😂Stay primal my friends 🤙
One of my favorite go to strength workouts this a.m. is this quick and effective posterior chain blast. Posterior chain refers to the groups of muscles on the posterior side of the body. I combined these 5 exercises back to back to create what I call a giant set. I also perform them at moderate intensity and give myself about 20 sec between movements and about 90 sec between rounds. I normally do 4 rounds. I always perform some type of lumbar strengthening exercise before I train/deadlift. Having neglected lumbar strengthening in the past has lead me to low back pain and feeling sub optimal which I don't like.
It's ok to play in the rain🤸♂️I took that line from my lil guy's,The "Ok" book. In between sets during this a.m. workout grabbing some some beats and feeling some endorphins I get from exercise and dance. The 2 go hand in hand. Its natural and its primal baby. Give it a try 😂😂
Barefoot putting has become one of my favorite work-in activities. It's fun, challenging, outdoors and gets me connected to the earth's surface through grounding. After a busy week or if I'm traveling and especially through different time zones, this helps to reset my circadian rhythms and detoxify myself of #emfs (electromagnetic fields) which ultimately improves my sleep quality. Have an amazing weekend everyone !
Some great competition in last evening's ultimate frisbee games. We played 2 games lasting over 2 hrs. Games go to 11 points and the winning team must win by 2 points. First game went 12-10 and took a lot out of everyone. Some good athletes in this motley crew of frisbee freaks which includes @marksissonprimal @discofrisbee and @juanfitronic. Till next time fellas.
Nothin' could be finer then bein' in Caroliner. Gonna miss ya! My nature immersion experience comes to a close and so much to learn from. My top 3 things I learned during my experience was 1. living close to nature brings me closest to homeostasis 2. Most of my negative eating habits are stress/mental/emotional related (self medication). I realized that I eat way more food than I actually need, even though it's all good food. 3. Stress management is so important for weight loss. If your trying to lose weight and all you think about is food, then your going to have an uphill battle. Being in nature is a great distraction and can curb your appetite and add balance to your busy life.
After a 12 minute run to the top of the mountain and a walk/jog back down it, today i added a bodyweight circuit of :
1. trx row 2. Trx bicep curl
3. incline pushup 4. split squat. I did 4 rounds of 15 - 20 reps. I generally travel with my trx to add a different dynamic to my outdoor workouts. It's easy to pack, doesn't take up too much space in my luggage and its adaptable to most environments.
