@anna_kasterova has put in serious work over the last year and it shows, including landing the cover of @tatler_russia magazine. We started shortly after she gave birth to her son. She did not shy away from big movements like front/back squats and going heavy on the deadlift. She has changed her body a lot and has developed a high level of overall functional strength needed to be a mother. Congrats 👍👍
Sunrise energy work this a.m. of tai chi/chi gong. This morning movement I've started to practice recently with the help of @certifiedhealthnut. Its added a nice balance to the work - out activities I do and general stress management. It adds flexibility, stability, mobility and helps lubricate my joints and fascia. In the short time I've been doing this I already feel improved joint mobility. From years of playing football my joints took a beating including multiple surgeries. Now I have to repair and take care of them because it's all I've got and I've got a long journey ahead of me. I prefer to do this outdoors making sure I'm supported by the energy of the sun and earth ❇♾🏯
Why spend a bunch of $$$ going to an expensive spa to get exfoliated when you can head down to the beach and do it for free 🙋♂️ Plus reap the benefits of connecting to the earth, setting your circadian rhythms, and feel really dam good. A great way to start the weekend " Primal Joe " style 👱♂️👊👍
Lots of luck to @ilyakovalchukofficial and @e.malkin71geno in this up coming season. NHL training camp is getting started and I'm confident these men are ready. Lots of good energy in our off season workouts between them. 👍🏃♂️👊🤙
Today marks the 1 year anniversary since Hurricane Irma hit, totaling my car. When it happened I was bummed out because I really liked my car and I knew my settlement wasn't going to be good. So I picked up my bmx bike (😂😂😂) and began to commute temporarily till I bought a new car. During the 1st 2 days of my commute I met a number of people and who commuted regularly on bike and discovered a whole new " underground " of cyclists.
So I decided to give it a try, I stopped in to the local bike store picked up a pure fixie bicycle and began to commute around the city. I didn't expect to go very long maybe a couple of months, but then after receiving a call from my buddy @the_dan_martin_fitness who told me he once commuted for an entire year really got me motivated and I decided to set a goal for 1 year. I started out like a ball of fire commuting almost every day on my bike and after a while I found myself burning out. I began to mix in my commutes with Uber and Lyft respectively. I will admit during the summer months as hot as it was and with the rain I used a lot more of Uber/Lyft then I wanted to. The thing that I noticed the most in the last year commuting on bike was the reduction in stress. Driving in traffic was not my favorite thing to do. It also made my life more interesting, the things you see on a bike you definitely do not see while driving in a car. In addition to those the increase of daily movement has been beneficial and has opened my eyes to a whole new form of transportation and way of living 🚴♂️🚵♂️🏃♂️👍🤙
An amazing notable meal I made yesterday. Chicken heart salad! I'm not going to lie, I was on fire after I ate this meal. Different from some other meals that I have eaten, this gave me a boost of energy like no other! Most likely because of the high iron content which is needed to produce hemoglobin and transport oxygen through the blood which can boost your energy as well as your immune system and help heal any cuts you may have. Other health benefits to eating chicken hearts include quality protein and essential amino acids. These tiny poultry pumps are high in B vitamins which helps with stress, fatigue , problems with the heart and blood vessels! So it turns out that eating heart is good for the heart 😁😁👍🤙 easy to cook, I simply baked them at 375 for about 25 minutes.
Love me some pastured duck eggs from Miller's Organic Farm delivered by @myhealthyfoodclub. Notice the deep orange color, the consistency of the egg white and the thickness of this shell. This is a true sign of nutrient density from a healthy duck. Contrary to conventional/factory raised eggs that are light in color and run all over the place. Egg yolks were my lil guy's first solid food as an infant thanks to the recommendation from Dr. Sally Fallon and her book "Nourishing Traditions". The fats and nutrients in egg yolks promote brain development just like breast milk does.
Home is where the heart is. Garage workout of 6 deadlifts and 1 or 2 legless rope climbs for 10 rounds. Later rounds were tough on the grip. Making your training convenient and easily accessible will lead to consistency, long term sustainability and greater chance reaching your goals. With a busy schedule and with traffic in Miami not getting any better I find training at home works best for me. My commute is like 10 seconds. Buy some equipment for the house or find a facility near by or both. Which ever one it is just get movin.
Let's give it up 1 time for my App State Mountaineers as we kick off the season today in Happy Valley against #10 Penn State. We have come a long ways from that small division 1 aa school in 'dem mountains of NC to a division 1 football team and playing in big games in front of 110k people like today. I'm so fortunate, proud and grateful to be part of such a special organization and truly my "second family ". To the roof!!!??? 👊👊
Just me and my lil guy warming up for a lil garage play this afternoon. Soccer season has officially started so were mixing in some dynamic stretching and strength work on his off days 😂😂 I do my best to keep him outdoors and active and try to make it fun and interesting when he's not in class. It's not easy competing against technology but the benefits of outdoor activity for children I'm certain are profound in their early developmental stages.
There was a recent article released with a Harvard professor claiming ingesting coconut oil is like drinking "poison" because of the high amounts of saturated fat in contains. Not sure how credible this article is and sounds like a lobbyist for some large food corp is behind it but anyways gave me an excuse to write this post. With long history of heart disease on both sides of my family, including fatal heart attacks to my father and grandfather I opted to do an advanced CT angiogram last year to check if I had any calcium buildup in my arteries at 43yrs. I can confidently tell you I had a score of ZERO. For the last 11 years my diet has included mostly organic saturated fats from animals as well as oils like coconut oil, lard and tallow. And my health has been much improved. It was prior to the last 11 years that I suffered from chronic pain, chronic inflammation and walked around with high blood pressure by eating a diet low in saturated fats and high in complex carbs like oatmeal etc. Ofcourse I can only speak for myself as a real, living experiment and testimony and will continue to drink my poison and feel great! Anyone else have a testimony good or bad? #tbt
1st kindergarten school meal for my lil guy today. I have lots of mixed emotions on this big day for both of us! I think he's taking it much better than I am actually. After giving him a kiss and watching him turn his back to walk up the steps to his new school wearing his dinosaur backpack and lunchbox in hand, he rolled into kinder looking proud and confident ready to take on the challenge. Sent with him his favorite lunch of #grassfed "carnita" pieces, green beans cooked in butter and with sea salt and chopped up strawberries. Knowing he's being nourished well gives me piece of mind. It also puts him in a great position to perform and learn keeping his blood sugar in check. Waking up a few minutes earlier every day is well worth it.
Here's a little bodyweight circuit I put together using equipment that was at Crandon Park the other day. During my commute to the park I stopped to practice some grounding & putting at Crandon Golf Course, one of my favorite working-in hobbies. In the second clip, listen to the intense sound of the crickets, totally mesmerizing and relaxing. Being in nature can have amazing effects on the mind & body and adds balance to living in a busy city.
A shot from yesterday's photo shoot promoting the use of Metro-Dade County Parks for exercise. As you know I'm a big fan of exercising outdoors in nature because of its many health benefits so being selected by @miamidadeparks to represent them was an honor. Needless to say I felt right at home in the beautiful Crandon Park, which having grown up here in Miami, was a place we frequented often with my family and still do today. 🏖🏝🚣♂️☀️
This morning I started to warm up to do another workout at the house. I started to pull the barbell out of the garage because I wanted to do deadlifts "again". I began thinking of all the stuff I needed to do in the yard and realized why dont you just do it yourself. I then asked myself " Isn't that why you lift those weights and do those sprints so you can perform"? What good is it if I'm not going to put it to use. I mean wasn't it the strong tribal members of our primitive cultures that survived longest because they could perform greater in times of battle or in suboptimal environmental conditions? Well here are just a few movements from today, and nothing, I mean NOTHING simulates swinging a pick axe. In addition, getting my hands in the soil is great for the microbiome and connecting to the earth. Lastly, I asked myself, which is a greater measure of success, being able to afford to pay someone to do the manual labor for me or being able to perform the manual labor myself ?
Here is a clip from my talk @21convention in which I opened it up by performing a skit of me in pain and popping pills to show others what my mornings looked like for 5 years of my life after the N.F.L. I discussed my journey of healing from chronic pain through real food and other healthy lifestyle choices. I discussed how I was taking over 20 Advil a day, in and out of doctors offices and booked for surgery. By removing foods that were creating inflammation, implementing foods to reduce inflammation. In addition, discontinuing the usage of toxic sports performance supplements and medications. I'm walkingproof that it can be done. For more info about my story go to www.primaljoe.com. To view the whole speech go to you tube : Joe DiBernardo 21 convention. Thank you. #tbt
