This is the view of Emerald Bay from the golf course at @grandisleresort. I could not get enough of the crystal clear, turquoise and brilliant blue waters of Exuma. The sky was also gorgeous on this morning after a few cloudy days.
There were so many sobering images and feelings today while visiting the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, also known as the Killing Fields. Children were beaten while music blared over loud speakers and headless bodies were thrown into mass graves. It’s hard to believe countries can do this to their own people, but it continues to happen in our world.
One of the images hard to forget is the many friendship or prayer bracelets left behind by visitors on the bamboo fences surrounding the graves. Perhaps people came with the purpose of paying their respects to those buried here by leaving a bracelet behind or maybe they felt compelled in that moment to honor the nearly 2.5 million people that died during the Khmer Rouge regime. @avalonwaterways *
