Each year Eating Recovery Center celebrates Eating Recovery Day- a day dedicated to removing stigma, raising awareness, and inspiring hope for recovery. Eating disorders impact many people and everyone’s journey is different. #MyRecoveryLetter invites you to write a letter to who or what embodies the spirit of recovery to you, to show others that recovery is possible- and that we can honor the big moments as well as the small ones along the way.
We had the privilege of attending Palatine High School’s career day last week! It was an honor to talk with the students as they explored their options and asked about internship opportunities! If you have any interest in becoming a counselor we’d love to answer any questions you may have!
Sometimes we think that our New Year’s Resolutions need to be these big daunting tasks. They could be as simple as not hitting the snooze button EVERY morning, or getting out the door on time, or even smiling at a stranger. What is the little (BIG) accomplishment that you had today?
Whether it’s being dead-named, Mia-gendered, or having your partner called your “friend”, the holidays can be a mine-field with family. This workshop will address skills & strategies for navigating potentially challenging holiday events. We’ll discuss boundary setting, self-advocacy, & the importance of self-care during this challenging time. We’ll also discuss families of choice and the value of prioritizing time with supportive friends. Following the presentation and discussion, we’ll have a mini-holiday party with some light refreshments.
The price is $15, tickets can be purchased at the door, but preregistration is required! Email email@example.com to register!
"The only person that deserves a special place in your life is someone that never made you feel like you were an option in theirs." Shannon L. Alder.
You deserve safety, warmth, love, and compassion. You deserve to be able to sit in your home, looking out at a looming grey sky, green trees, and hearing your surroundings. You are enough. You will be loved and you will be cared for.
contact a therapist at Owens & Associates to help you begin your healing process and allow yourself to be loved again. Allow yourself to trust again. Allow yourself to smile and have fun again.

September is Self-Improvement Month. Consider what this means from a quote by Thomas Jefferson:"If you want something you've never had, you've got to do something you've never done." Moving toward the person or life we want requires small changes that lead to bigger changes. These changes become our new routine, and our routine becomes our life. Is it the life you want? Stop listening to fear and choose to make a change in the direction you want to go. And, if you're not sure where to start or the way you're thinking about a problem or yourself is impeding you from doing something you've never done, than call Owens & Associates. We'd be happy to help you identify and reach your goals!
If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call 911 immediately.
If you are in crisis or are experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, call National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273 TALK (8255)
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month- a time to share resources and stories in an effort to shed light on this stigmatized topic.
Reach out to those affected by suicide, raise awareness and connect individuals with suicidal ideation to treatment services.
Take a minute to boost your mood today:
Think of 3 things you're grateful for.
Sing along to the radio.
Put on lotion.
Use essential oils.
Text or call a friend to say hi.
Take a picture if something beautiful.
Read some jokes.
Recall a happy or funny memory.
Theses things can be done anytime anywhere. Take a moment to take care of yourself!
