Renee said, “I love how this is already tied directly to the reading standards that we are covering this month. Awesome. I can't wait to dive into this unit the next two weeks with my students.”...
Mrs. Rice says, “This activity was perfect for helping them understand the difference between figurative and literal language. It also helped improve their writing because they understand how they can change their own literal writing into figurative language.” Bit.ly/polarexpressforbigkids
Y’ALL NEED THIS BOOK// I bought this over Thanksgiving break at @barnesandnoble. I immediately thought of my kids. // They are full of hope and passion and dreams and brain power. But they aren’t given as many (or any) opportunities as they DESERVE!! // This is the first book that I’ve seen that recognizes their world can ACTUALLY BE FULL of HOPE and JOY, too! That they DO NOT have to travel the world over every break to accomplish goals or dreams; to have fun and enjoy themselves. // YOU NEED this book 📖 on your teacher Christmas list!
CHRISTMAS FREEBIE // I designed and hand-lettered these ADORABLE Christmas Thank You cards & notes just for Y’ALL! 🤭🎄 They are PERFECT to print out and have on hand at school when students and staff gift you goodies over the next few weeks! 👉🏽 bit.ly/christmasthankyounotes
NOVEL STUDY // The first time I read The Hundred Dresses, I was a 3rd grader in Mrs. Cunningham’s classroom. 👗 To this day, it’s one of my top 10 favorite books to read. // The vocabulary in this book is amazing; the life lessons inferred and the themes are so deep. // It’s also perfect for drawing conclusions, making inferences, character traits, and plot line. // If you’re looking for your next small group study - especially for a group with girls - this is it. It’s completely relatable.

NOTE TAKING 📝// It’s important that students know how to take proper notes when viewing digital resources as well as close reading. // One, it helps them to pull out IMPORTANT details as opposed to just interesting details. Also, it helps them to classify key information to determine author’s purpose, perspective, and main idea. // I L O V E using this strategy of choosing repeated words that are IMPORTANT to words in the title or name of digital source to determine the main idea of a text. It’s a great strategy students can use over and over again to easily summarize or determine the central idea of a text/video. Plus, it’s always SUPER cute to see their renditions of my anchor charts. // WRITING = increased comprehension
