The Clovers are an American R&B/doo-wop group who were one of the biggest selling acts in the 1950s. They had a top 30 hit in ‘59, the Leiber and Stoller song "Love Potion No. 9"
Their second recording session resulted in the release of "Fool, Fool, Fool" (featured in Group H.U.G.S.) in August 1951, which reached #1 on the R&B chart.
In April 1957, Quincy Jones arranged five tracks for the group.
In 1989 The Clovers won the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Pioneer Award, and were inducted into the United in Group Harmony (UGHA) Hall of Fame. They were also inducted into the R&B Music Hall of Fame class of 2013. #BlackHistory#TheClovers#Melanin#RNB#ChasBronxson#DooWop#DoowopChallenge#MusicHistory#MelaninHistory
#TheDeltaRythmBoys Formed at Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma, in 1934 by Elmaurice Miller, Traverse Crawford, Essie Joseph Adkins, and Otho Lee Gaines. Later members (after 1936) included Clinton Holland, Carl Jones, Kelsey Pharr, Hugh Bryant, Herb Coleman, Walter Tremmel and Ray Beatty. Rene DeKnight became their pianist. The group appeared often in the 1940s on radio programs such as Amos and Andy and The Joan Davis Show, and performed on Broadway in the shows, Sing Out the News and Hot Mikado. Aside from their own recordings, they served as background vocalists for Charlie Barnet, Mildred Bailey, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ruth Brown.
One of their most successful releases was a vocal version of the Glenn Miller instrumental hit "I Dreamt I Dwelt in Harlem" from 1941 (as featured in Group H.U.G.S.)
Their 1950s version of the spiritual song "Dem Bones" was a hit record for them (although recorded with the name "Dry Bones.") *NOTE: We know this song as “The thigh bone’s connected to the - KNEE
In the 1950s, they relocated to Europe where they had a HUGE fan base. While their fame was diminishing in America, they recorded songs in Swedish, Danish & Finnish, mixing English and the local languages and blew up overseas.
In 1960, Kelsey Pharr died in Hawaii and Carl Jones left for personal reasons. They were replaced by Hugh Bryant and Herb Coleman. Coleman and Crawford died in the 1970s and were replaced by Walter Tremmel and Ray Beatty.
Lee Gaines died of cancer in Helsinki on July 15, 1987. At Gaines's funeral, Hugh Bryant collapsed while performing, and died, apparently from a heart attack. A real touching scenario: Collapsing while singing at your creative brother’s funeral and then dying of a heart attack. Deep!
The Delta Rhythm Boys were later inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and their version of "Alouette" was used in a commercial for Target in 2012.
Thank you Delta Rhythm Boys for setting a trend that goes on even today. Your contribution to American music will NOT be overlooked as America has always done and will always do
****Interesting facts about us Blacks, But we don’t know it ‘cause they don’t show it****......but once we know, WE KNO
The Ink Spots were an American pop vocal group who gained international fame in 1930s-1940s. Their unique musical style led to the rhythm and blues and rock and roll musical genres, and the subgenre doo-wop.
In 1936 the Ink Spots became the first black people to appear on television; and in 1948 became pioneers by becoming the first black people to appear on Ed Sullivan's TV show.
In 1946 The Inkspots received the Cashbox award for making "The Gypsy" the biggest money making song of the year. They were also awarded a plaque from the Negro Actors Guild for their efforts in "breaking down the walls of racial prejudice". Taking this further, in 1951 they made the 1st music videos (called ‘Soundies’ back then). Thank you Inkspots for setting a trend that goes on even today. Your contribution to American music will NOT be overlooked as America has done and will always do.

Hailing from Ohio, the Mills Brothers are the fathers of what’s known today as R&B music, having started their career in the late 1920’s. They got their major break after the youngsters sang for Duke Ellington when Duke called Tommy Rockwell at Okeh Records who signed them and brought the group to New York City. This is the equivalent of Boyz II Men going backstage at a New Edition concert and singing for Michael Bivins. Crazy right! But notice the cultural continuity playing here. One brother looking out for the next up & comers and helping to make it happen for them. This is what we DO people! Don’t let it be ‘what we DID’. In 1934, The Mills Brothers became the first African-Americans to give a command performance before ‘British royalty’. In 1973, The Jackson 5 performed with and paid homage to The Mills Bros. on a segment of a TV special called ‘One More Time’ (in a display of respect for the ones who came before you.) Anti-Diss. Acknowledge Predecessors Today. Something we should a.d.a.p.t. to today. Link in bio for the H.U.G.S video! Home going services for the Queen have begun - Not only a singer but a civil rights activist who made you THINK with her Million Dollar Voice! She was not one to be messed with and made sure the world knew and RESPECTed her worth! All she asked was that we carry ourselves as DO RIGHT WOMEN, DO RIGHT MEN and not a CHAIN OF FOOLS! She gave us permission to be NATURAL WOMEN and made it clear that DR. FEELGOOD was optional! UNTIL YOU COME BACK TO US in the form of our best memories of you - we will continue to SAY A LITTLE PRAYER for you and your family! -

A former college student from #Connecticut was sentenced to a year in jail for lying about being raped by two black athletes. The cameras were rolling at 20-year-old #NikkiYovino ’s sentencing in Connecticut’s #BridgeportSuperiorCourt and it appeared Yovino showed no remorse for the crime, rolling her eyes during her appearance, according to @Vibe.
Officials said Yovino was a student at #SacredHeartUniversity in #Fairfield , Connecticut, where she had consensual sex with two football players at a party in 2016.
Yovino lied about being raped because she reportedly wanted to garner sympathy from a love interest. Though both men were never charged, the victims testified their lives were greatly impacted by the lie.
