One of my favourite places to catch the sunset in Berlin.
.

Here's a #protip that a lot of first time visitors miss out on (including myself): The Reichstag (German parliament building) in Berlin offers free visits to the rooftop including the glass dome with great views of the city! If you're making plans make sure to book this tour weeks in advance because you can NOT make a booking the day of!
.

This is usually the first place I take friends when they visit so I highly recommend adding it to your itinerary! 🌆

Inspiring Sunday meeting a huge role model @BenCoomber and seeing him speak on the future of the fitness and coaching industry. Not only did he share a refreshingly honest view of how we can get better at making other people's lives better but he also took the time to speak with fans and really listen to them.
Huge respect for this guy and his journey with his fitness, business and personal development. Left me feeling even more inspired and incredibly grateful for the chance to speak with him after the talk. Ben is changing the game as a coach who cares and empowering people to raise their standards for living their best life.
Will share the talk when it becomes available through my newsletter 🙂 In the meantime you can check out his podcast which I've included among my all time favourite in health & fitness.

Made the most of the rest of the @bodypowerexpo attending talks and checking out the competitions. Definitely want to go back next year 💪🏻

In 1989 a movie was released called #TheWizard. Fast forward to the finale of that film and we have the heroes in a high stakes competition called Video Armageddon playing Mario Bros on stage for a $50,000 cash prize (practically a million dollars in 1989 😜). Now it is not uncommon to find many of these type of events that just don't focus on sports as competition (if you know where to look). .
Last week at #Leedsdigi18 I got some nostalgic vibes for that movie attending @codeinthedarkuk. Alright, so there was no Nintendo involved and there are also other retro games competitions out there but I've always thought if you're going for a night out, why not do something a bit out of the ordinary? Not to mention supporting all different types of competitions including one where contestants have to recreate a webpage live by using code! Top it off with laser lights and blasts of techno music and you have yourself a unique event to shake up your weekend routine and inspire the whole spectrum of talents we as humans have.

Wow! 😱Thanks to everyone who has been checking out and sharing the photos on my Unsplash account! 1 million views?! That's definitely a new personal best! .
If you're an aspiring photographer I definitely recommend sharing some of your work on there as well as collaborating with the @Unsplash community through their @Slack group to meet others in your area! A good way to build a network and get recognized for the work you do! 😀📷

No matter where I go on this planet I'm constantly inspired by the natural beauty you can find outdoors.
.

This series brought to you by the Yorkshire countryside you'll see along the three peaks challenge.
.

A 12 hour hike, there was never a shortage of gorgeous landscape to take in (and we were very fortunate to have perfect weather the whole way 🌤).
.

If you take a trip to Northern England make sure to spend a day out here ⛰⛰⛰

Fresh new logo for year 3!

Thanks to everyone who has shared their feedback so far and to the incredibly talented Owen from @doodleme_uk who was a superstar to work with.

As anyone designing a logo knows it takes hundreds of sketches until you find the right one and I must have drawn this shape (and variations) in my notebook many, many times but thankfully Owen was able to digitize it and bring it to life! I looked at sites like Fiverr and 99designs but given the option it is great to work with someone local and very personable 🙂

What about you? Do you have any stories on how you developed your logo? Where do you find your logo inspiration from?

It has been such a ride since sitting at an old dining room table in the Toronto Annex neighbourhood starting this journey to meeting so many inspiring people along the way.

"We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”

Title: How to Win Friends and Influence People In the Digital Age
Author: Dale Carnegie and Associates
Summary: The updated guide to relationships in the 21st century adapted from the global best seller How to Win Friends and Influence People. The timeless wisdom is delivered with the context of today’s digital society to better your communication and leadership skills in all areas of your life.
.

As you've requested I'm sharing the picture of the book after I finished it. You can tell I've made note of quite a few passages. Give this post 100 ❤️ and I’ll post a chapter by chapter summary on ModernAfflatus.com!
.

Notable Quotes:
. “You can make more friends in two months by becoming more interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get people interested in you”
. “Hardwired into all of us is the desire for honest communication - to understand and be understood. Beyond that, for authentic connection - to be known, accepted, and valued. Beyond that still, for successful collaboration - to work together toward meaningful achievement be it commercial success, corporate victory, or relational longevity. The crowing essence of success lies along a spectrum between authentic human connection (winning friends) and meaningful, progressive impact (influencing people)."

"Staying young is trying out new tastes, new places to go, new styles, keep and open mind, not getting reactionary or being disapproving of more and more things, not settling for what you’ve always had or had done.

Staying young is about keeping a fresh vision of the world, being interested, being stimulated, being motivated, being adventurous.

100 weeks ago this is how it started. A few people in a room brainstorming some new ideas and setting out to create something. Modern Afflatus may not have existed if it wasn't for moments like those. Here's to encouraging and supporting each other in our endeavours! 👏👏👏

"In a few hundred years, when the history of our time will be written from a long-term perspective, it is likely that the most important even historians will see is not technology, not the Internet, not e-commerce. It is an unprecedented change in the human condition. For the first time-literally-substantial and rapidly growing numbers of people have choices. For the first time, they will have to manage themselves. And society is totally unprepared for it." - Peter Drucker

Title: Becoming A Supple Leopard
Author: Dr. Kelly Starrett
Summary: If you enjoy challenging yourself and progressing in fitness this book is pretty much a must have. If you've seen @mobilityWODs channel you know how much he is dedicated to improving mobility and combating the negative factors of being sedentary. The book covers so much, even if you don't train on a regular basis there is plenty of tips regarding maintaining good posture, day to day lifting and being active enough for your kids. The updated edition has some enhancements that make it easier to find the section you want from the theory to the exercises (and variations). Here's a few of Dr. Kelly's tips on mobility (PS- don't forget to check out his interviews on YouTube as well).
. 👉7 Rules of Mobility👈

1. Test and Retest
"Everything you do should have observable, measurable, and repeatable results. Testing and retesting lets you know whether what you are doing is actually working."
.

2. If it feels sketchy, it's sketchy
"Ungluing stiff, restricted tissue is uncomfortable, but it shouldn't feel like you're causing more damage than is already there."
.

3. No Days Off
"Remember, your body is an adaptation machine. If you spend a few minutes a day working on improving your position, you will improve your position."
.

4. Make Mobility Realistic
" The key is to prioritize mobilization techniques that approximate real-life situations. The more you can replicate what you're trying to change, the more you will improve your position.
.

5. Always Mobilize in a Good Position
"Keep the movement principles in mind as you mobilize. If your ankles collapse, your knees cave inward, your back rounds, or you overextend at your lumbar spine, reset and fix your position."
.

6. Don't Get Stuck in One Position; Explore Your Business
"As long as you maintain good form and avoid defaulting into bad positions, you should feel free to explore your dysfunction and move into newly challenged areas."
.

7. Don't Make a Pain Face "...you don't want to associate pain with a weird face because those things get mapped together in your body." 😝
