I was glad to see many people from all ages going to the many Japanese temples of the country. It's a deep rooted tradition. From scholars to retired, alone or with the friends. There's always time to go and enjoy these majestic places. 🎌

Clean streets, full of color, that was the constant while exploring different parts of Tokyo.
。
I was amazed how I never spotted a single garbage bin; nonetheless, the streets were always clean.

Nakamise Dori is an old and narrow street which is just in front of Asakusa's Senso-ji Temple. Nakamise Dori goes way back to the Edo Period times, and some of these shops are more than 100 years old. Since then, all kind of souvenirs can be bought there. 🎌

Unlike metro stations which have underground entrances, many JR stations in Japan tend to be inside huge buildings which can also serve for other purposes, such as malls.
。
Just like the building of Asakusa Station in the picture. Also called Ekimise, it's an old renovated train station that has restaurants and other shops.

That building in front is Shibuya Station, as seen from the opposite side of Shibuya Crossing. It's located besides Shinjuku and Ikebukuro stations and its the fourth busiest station in all Japan. Just behind Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and Osaka-Umeda complex. 🎌

Pagodas can be seen at many Buddhist temples, and they are supposed to contain the ashes of the Buddha. Pagodas are resistant to earthquakes due to their central pillar structure in the center which supports the entire tower. This system is so effective that it has been used in modern iconic buildings such as the Tokyo Skytree. 🎌

Right in front of Shibuya Station, there's one of the most iconic buildings from the area: Shibuya 109. An 8 storey department store famous for its many clothing brands and fashion trends for women.
。
Unlike the Harajuku stores which look for something more striking and personal, Shibuya 109 focuses on the urban women who cares about their beauty.

The 5 story pagoda of Senso-ji in Asakusa is about 53m tall and is one of the most famous pagodas in all Japan.
。
The original pagoda, which belonged to the Edo Period, was destroyed during the bombing of Tokyo in Word War II and rebuilt in its current location after the war ended.

Shibuya Crossing is usually referred as the busiest intersection in the world. Since the amount of people who go through it everyday is just monstrous. This scramble is located just outside Shibuya Station and it's estimated that about 40,000 to 45,000 people would cross it every half an hour in rush hours, and about one million per day. At one time, as much as 3,000 people would cross through it. 🎌

One more from Takeshita Dori, a pedestrian street with plenty of shops of all kinds. Ice cream, crepes, fashion boutiques, cafes. Even some important chains such as McDonald's and 7-Eleven are there. Although, most of the businesses are small independent stores which carry a large variety of styles. 🎌 。

Practically every city and town in Japan has at least one temple. Important places such as Kyoto, Kamakura, etc, have many more. Going to the temples several times a year is a very important and a rooted custom for Japanese culture. Sometimes, going to a farther place with a bigger temple is also important if you need to. 🎌

Before making any offering or prayer at a shrine in Japan, you must purify yourself. This is called Chozu.
。
With the help of a wooden ladle, first wash your left hand, then the right hand, and finally your mouth. But don't touch the ladle with your mouth! Pour some water on your left hand and rinse slightly to your mouth. Also, spit it out on the rocks below, not on the basin. 。
Then wash the ladle, so the next person will get it clean.

Meiji Jingu is, without a doubt, one of the largest Shinto shrines in all Japan. It's located close to Harajuku Station and Shibuya Station, both from the JR Yamanote Line. Currently, many ceremonies and shinto weddings are celebrated in Meiji Jingu. 🎌

Meiji Jingu's construction began in 1915, the temple was built in the traditional nagare-zukuri style and made mainly with cypress and copper. In 1946, the Meiji Shrine was officially named one of the Kanpei Taisha (官幣大社), which meant it belongs to the first rank of sanctuaries with government support.
。
The original building was destroyed during the bombing of Tokyo in Word War II. It was rebuild and completed in October 1958.
