Mini Activist Profile | Meghan Beattie | YVR
Hi hi, it’s me! I just wanted to do a quick little intro about myself- hard to fit all the bits into 60 seconds! - but here’s my attempt!
I am so excited for all that is to come in Vancouver with @liberationbc and @vancouverchickensave and all the other rad organizations and humans that are doing such important work for the animals- human and nonhuman alike.
Please message me if you have any questions about activism and/or want to get more involved! ❤️👊🏻❤️
#throwback to this past weekend. I have this incredibly brave and determined friend who organized this silent protest at the ribfest in Kamloops. @kirablaise created @kamloopsanimalrights to build community and begin spreading awareness about kindness and compassion for all earthlings. As well, of course, to get some protests going and fight loudly and proudly to end animal exploitation.
I don’t think we realize how lucky we are in Vancouver to have the community that we do. That there is support and participation in animal rights out here. Veganism is alive and well and out in the open. Although we get hecklers and obvious opposition, we have strength in numbers. That is not the case in small towns. Four of us drove up to Kamloops to support and participate in the silent protest. Except for Kira, no one attended that was local. There are folks out there who claim to be vegan but don’t believe in ‘preaching our beliefs down peoples’ throats’- so in reality, plant based, not vegan... We are sure, though, there are vegans there- in many small towns all over- who want to stand up and fight and speak up for the animals, but it’s scary. It’s different in these small towns. The backlash and aggression from folks that don’t get it (yet) is ten fold. But that’s why we need more Kiras! I believe there are so many vegan activists waiting to use their voices out there- go for it! Message me! Message @liberationbc and we will do whatever we can to help and support! The future is vegan. 💚✌🏻💙 #Activism#activists#thefutureisvegan#ribfestkamloops#bekindbefairbevegan#stopeatinganimals#useyourvoice#beloud#bethechange
Stop this injustice. This cruelty. This suffering. This needlessness. Stop. Eating. Animals. #Repost @londonchickensave
As the seventh truck arrived during our vigil today we heard this young chick cry out from one of the crates. She was pinned by the other bodies around her, completely unable to move. The industry doesn’t care about her. She’s merely a number to them. But to us, we see her true value - she is someone. Her life was stolen today. Don’t participate in this violence. Go vegan.
Let’s talk about my tshirt and how awesome it is. (the human beside me is pretty awesome as well...) There are two UK humans I started following at the beginning of this vegan/activist journey of mine. Although I have a wonderful group of like-minded and amazing humans around me here in Vancouver, @veganmagick & her rad sis Jane were (and still are) HUGE inspirations to me. As well as their partners @jimmygalan & Phoenix. Pheobe & Jane created the @theearthlingsexperience 3 1/2 years ago. As well they helped create @londonveganactions and @surgeactivism. A couple years ago Jane and Phoenix made their own tshirts to wear to pride. So many people loved the design they made a bunch- on thrifted tops- and I ordered one! I thought it would be timely to share this pic today. Animal rights includes human rights. We are all animals after all. I am still learning and doing my best. This is a journey that is full of growth and difficult conversations and mistakes being made along the way. For me anyways... But I will continue to evolve and challenge myself to have conversations that scare me and learn from my mistakes and be proud of the human I am becoming. I am able to do this because I have people like @veganmagick, Jane, Jimmy & Pheonix, and @earthlinged & @forliberation to look up to. As well as all my humans here in Vancouver. There are literally too many of you to name, but you know who you are. Together, we will reach our goal. Total. Animal. Liberation. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #animalliberation#humanliberation#equalrightsforallbeings#pride#surgeactivism#animalrights#humanrights#bekindbefairbevegan#bethechange
I do not understand this world. Look at her. She is sweet and beautiful. Look at her. She is scared. She is tired. Look at her. She is a baby. Look at her. She is broken. What have we done? She is a baby and we’ve broken her. We have tortured and exploited and neglected her. We have supported and participated in her suffering and pain. What have we done? What are we doing? Why aren’t we seeing and hearing her? Why aren’t we treating her with love, respect and dignity? Why aren’t we saving her? We are trying. I am trying. I am doing my best. But I let the truck go after 3 minutes and I feel broken. I got to go home to my warm bed. To my sweet fluffy kitty loves. To my safe & loving life on the Drive. She did not. After 3 minutes, the truck drove down the alley. The liner she was in got piled onto others. Then a forklift took her across the alley way. She got dumped out and down a shoot. Her legs were grabbed and she was hung upside down on blue and green hooks. Her head then went through an electric bath. Was she unconscious? We will never know. And then, she passed the knife, and her throat was slit. She was slaughtered. I did not stop it. I’m at a loss. What are we doing? Why isn’t everyone vegan. I don’t get it. I’m so sorry, sweet baby. I see you. I hear you. I’m trying. I promise I won’t stop. Not until every animal is free. 📷: @j.enee
If someone had told me a year ago- even a month ago- that I’d be sitting outside Hallmark having a civil and open conversation with their manager, I’d have said there’s no way in hell I’d calmly talk to this human. Well, yesterday, I did. ‘Colonel Sanders’ was sitting with his travel mug and I went up to talk to him. Shockingly his chatter about how every single chicken is unconscious at the moment of getting their throats slit, that they aren’t babies, no he’ll never go vegan and the like didn’t make my blood boil the way it normally would. My wall was down and I was able to talk with him- human to human. • as I type this, I seriously cannot believe I’m typing this, this is very strange • With Hallmark getting the alleyway leased, we will not be able to bear witness there any more. But this giant and ridiculous obstacle they have created has pushed us to do what we should’ve done a long time ago. Stop the trucks. The Colonel eluded to the fact that he’d told his workers and truck drivers to let us be. To let us do what we were doing. He cannot control what one driver does or the other- some may be more patient than others- but he won’t interfere in what we are doing. I’ll clarify and confirm this next week with him, and perhaps push for a three minute time frame, rather than two. Yesterday was intense and heartbreaking and exciting. All the feels. And all the sadness. I’m foreseeing myself feeling more hopeless than ever- and confused- when we stop the trucks. More specifically when the 3 minutes are up and we have to back away and let them go. It seems futile and fucked. But I don’t think we’ve ever gotten as much footage as we did yesterday. And that is one of the reasons we are there- every one of those babies is an individual and every single one needs to be seen and heard and loved- we need to be constantly sharing this evil. Discuss and share about how immoral and unnecessary this industry is. But we can only do this if we stay safe, healthy and strong. This is next level stuff we are starting to do. Message me if you want to know more. 📷: @roysasano #lovebasedactivism#bethechange#bekindbefairbevegan#vancouverchickensave#bearingwitness
This. So timely. Not much is out there with regards to ‘broiler’ chickens at the moment. That I know of anyways... But that’s going to change. Stay tuned... #Repost @weanimals

"Promises" - A We Animals short film. Link to the full video in bio.
Yes, I’m sharing this again. It cannot be reiterated enough- all facets of animal agriculture, exploitation and industry are unjust and unnecessary. From the egregious violations that make it into mainstream media and on the news to the basic standard practices. It is all evil. It ALL must stop.
New shocking footage from Kamloops B.C. shows pigs overcrowded and stacked on top of each other in transport on a sweltering hot day.
But it's ILLEGAL under federal law to overcrowd animals and expose them to harsh weather. The industry’s cruel disregard for animal welfare in pursuit of profit is unacceptable. TAKE ACTION: Tell the CFIA to enforce animal transport laws! Link in my bio.
Thanks to our friends at @kamloopsanimalrights for capturing this footage.
This is happening right here. In our backyard. Stop. Eating. Animals.
BREAKING: A live transport truck overcrowded with pigs spotted in #Kamloops BC.
The pigs were being carried southbound on HWY-5 and had stopped right after an inspection station.
Inside, these pigs were exhausted, thirsty, and crying.
Many couldn’t get up as the heat was too much, some were twitching, and all were frothing at the mouth!!
A complaint has been sent to the CFIA and ASPCA (the truck had an Albertan license plate); however, the BCSPCA may be able to take action in an investigation if the truck was loaded in BC.
Please help us end this cruelty by sharing this story.
More to come as we hear back from the CFIA and ASPCA..
Vegan [not plant-based] AF. 🌱
Shout out to all the badass ladies out there who are not apologetic for speaking out on behalf of others. The creators of art , inspiring positive change, organizing and marching. Let’s hold each other up and keep moving forward ♥️♥️♥️
More footage of what it’s like to be born a chicken in BC and beyond. These ARE NOT isolated incidents. It is the norm... #Repost @animaljustice_
EXPOSED: New video reveals MORE horrific BC egg farm cruelty.
Animal Justice's director of farmed animal advocacy Anna Pippus (@easyanimalfree) spoke with @ctvvancouver about the footage, which shows workers gripping handfuls of fragile hens by their wings, and legs, brutally throwing them up to several feet into crates, and slamming them closed while their body parts protrude. Anna told CTV the rough handling is an industry-wide problem that "results in broken bones and dislocated joints".
This self-regulated industry consistently gets away with egregious abuse. We're calling for government oversight to protect animals from horrific cruelty that thrives behind closed doors.
