Jumping on the throwback challenge I was curious what my first Facebook photo was. It was of my brother and I circa 2006/07. I was 21. • We dont have many photos together as the majority of my life was largely spent without his presence, a lot of that due to our 9 year age difference. Different stages of life. Different upbringings. Different generations. It's likely also the reason for my early maturity. I was fortunate enough to visit my brother in Asia at the beginning of 2018 where the most recent photo is from. I was 32. • Of course we bickered and argued and fought. He won (in my defence he was bigger and older). It wasn't until much later in my life that I realised how much he inspired, influenced, and shaped who I am today - My love of geeky things for example. Family isn't always easy. Family isn't always fun. But the importance and influence of family can never be denied. The oldest photo of us is from 1997. I was 12. •
For someone who has been making coffee for a living for over 10 years I dont really take much notice of it. • Isn't it interesting how we often forget the things we're good at took time but then admire everyone else for the things they probably take for granted • Take time this holiday season to appreciate the talents of others and also yourselves ☺
There comes a time in any venture - business, life, or relationships; where things start shifting from just being something 'fun' and 'casual' to something that you needs your investment to have a chance of growing and developing. • It's also at that point when we need to take a step back and honestly ask ourselves and the people involved... - Why are we doing this? - Are we actually ready to invest and commit ourselves to seeing this succeed? Even if there are no guarantees it will. • The @thebrothersofbutter project is reaching that point now. It's exciting. It's scary. It's come faster than expected. Once Christmas is past we'll definitely be taking that step back to plan, prepare, and ask a whole lot of deep introspective questions. • • • #businesslife #businesstips #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurlife #butterbros #goalsetting #worlddomination #bestnutbutters #businessstartup #newbusiness
I recently did my first ever singing performance with some super awesome people. That makes this year's peformance tally: - one theatrical circus - one dance - one singing For someone who wouldn't consider himself a performer, that's quite a diverse range of performances 🤔 Were any of them good? super amateur 🤣🤣 • So why do it? Because each of these performances pushed me up against my comfort zone. If I hadn't been asked or encouraged, then I would've just kept safe in my little comfort bubble and I would've missed these amazing experiences and opportunities to grow • Growth is almost always uncomfortable and sometimes even a little scary. Whenever you get asked by life to take on something that makes you nervous and uncomfortable, consider that on the other side of that mess is the opportunity you've been searching for. As one of my teachers always says, "run to the roar." • • • #befearless #comfortzone #confidence #lifeexperiences #discomfort #yourlifeliveit #lifecoach #lifelessons #growth
This is something I've been developing a with a small group of amazing folks - Butter Brothers @thebrothersofbutter • In a nutshell (pun intended), Butter Bros. make awesome nut butter spreads with a focus on unique nut blends such as our current reigning champion, Cashew Almond. We also make classic flavours such as, peanut, but our main focus is creating combinations that capture the imagination while maintaining honesty and simplicity in the ingredients we use • At the end of the day we're just three crazy lads who want to have a bunch of fun busting some nuts for others to enjoy along with us 🤣😂 • • • #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurlife #entrepreneur #business #newbusiness #startup #entrepreneurforlife #takingrisks #bustingnuts #nzfood #peanutbutter #nutbutter #nutters #butterbros
I'm "overfat" 😑 I had my body fat percentage taken and I'm half a percent out of being "healthy" and off a cliff into the "overfat" category 🤣 Is the scaling system dumb? Yep Am I unhealthy? Nope Can I do all the things I want to do? Yep • But that doesn't change my 20.5% body fat which is more than I want or need. This is why I love numbers, it doesn't care about my feelings, it's truthful and keeps me honest 🤓 • Oh well, time to make some changes 🙃 The aim is mid-teens, possibly even low -teens, we'll see. Feel free to follow me on my journey, or unfollow if you don't want to see a bunch of "overfat" no-abs photos 😂🤣😅 • • • #honesty #accountability #goals #lifecoach #entrepreneur #lifelessons #gettingfit #gettinghealthy #fatloss #healthjourney #gettinglean #exercisetime
It's such a seemingly simple and innocuous concept: Greater power; greater responsibility. • I never realised how much more humility and humbleness was required to maintain the increase in power. • We all want the flash car, but we have to acknowledge whether we're capable of handling it? Will you become a better driver, or will you lose control? • • • #greatpowergreatresponsibility #spiderman #marvel #stanlee #lifecoach #humility #humbleness #entrepreneur #businessowner #geek #lifelesson
What's left to say that hasn't already been said about Stan Lee? Regardless I want to pay my respects and do my own little 10 day tribute to this man who has influenced my life more than I'll ever realise • Thank you, Stan Lee, for making the world such a Marvel-ous place. Excelsior!
30 days ago I made a commitment to write a post each day with the intention of putting myself out there to build an awareness of the life coaching business I'd been building and to share any lessons I've gained from my own life to help anyone who read the posts. • But my own internal fears around putting an honest 'me' out there freaked me the fuck out. So the posting was also a way to force me to face my fears head on. A lot has happened since the. but these were my main fears at day 1: ° - I'm not good enough to help others. I've since picked up as many clients as I can probably handle right now ° - I didn't have enough experience. it turns out I knew a lot more than I gave myself credit for. My own coaches, teachers, and mentors have also been invaluable sources of wisdom and experience ° - I'm not successful enough. It's not actually about me, but rather how I can help others ° - fear that I'll be disliked or avoided for what I say or do. The opposite has actually been true. All this opening up has brought me new friends and existing relationships have gotten deeper.
I spoke with a client who wants to learn how to start "letting go" of the things that cause stress and pain in her life but has been struggling her whole life with how to do that. So how does one learn how to start doing that? • We often think that we need to learn something new or expand our knowledge to overcome something that's holding us back. However, take a second to consider that it's not a lack of knowledge that holds us back, but is instead what we already know but just isn't true that holds us back. • Imagine one day a young boy notices that he's bigger than his friends. Over the next few weeks he discovers that he's slower than his friends. Before long the boy starts believing he's fat. This belief then closes him off from taking up physical activities, creating a life pattern that supports that belief. Now imagine a bunch more similar events occurring and you get emotional baggage. • Can you see how learning something new to fight something we dont know the cause of would be very overwhelming? Healing or letting go is actually about looking back over events with wiser eyes so we can actually UNLEARN subconscious patterns or beliefs that may no longer be true or just aren't beneficial for us anymore. • So the first thing I would do for this client is clear out any limting beliefs that are no longer serving her so we can put a stop to the negative behaviour patterns. Then we can start practicing letting go. • • • #lifecoach #nlp #nlpcoach #personalgrowth #coaching #lifelessons #happiness #lettinggo #movingon #personalstrength
Post no. 27 out of 30, which means I'm 90% of the way through and on the final stretch. It was only because I was asked that I realised where I was at. It really shows how effective small consistent steps.can be toward achieving a goal. • I can understand why people make big changes or big leaps forward, it's so much easier to identify and reward. But what was once "big" progress would then become the norm and the only way to feel like you're making progrss is by doing "even bigger" things. It doesnt take long before "bigger" and "more" become unsustainable, leading to burnout or avoidance. •
A few weeks ago I had one of the worst runs in my business career. It had been slowly building up throughout the year and culminated at a particularly low point. I felt completely defeated and empty. Turns out it may have been one of the best things that could've happened. • In the weeks since, I've been working on a new business project that builds on the lessons I've learnt so far. It's got a great energy behind it, with a cool team who are just as excited as I am, and most importantly I'm having a ton of fun with it. I actually couldn't be happier with the way things are turning out. What a pleasant surprise. • The irony is that if my original idea had "succeeded" I wouldn't of been open to this possibility. It literally took failing and being turned down to allow me the emptiness to have the space for this new opportunity. Sometimes failing is what's necessary to cleanse us of our baggage. • Quick sidenote for my life coaching business: I currently have one more life coaching space open to take on a pro-bono client. If you feel that something has been holding you back from where you want to be in life, or if you just want to end the year on a high note so you can start next year strong, PM me. Let me help 🙂 it'll help me grow as a life coach too. • • #grateful
My "unique" staff hiring process. • One of the lesser talked about yet super crucial things for any business is company culture. If a business were a person then the culture would be their personality. Whilst intangible, it's one of the foundational pillars of any organisation. • Company culture should stem from the director and trickle throughout the rest of the organisation. If the director doesn't set a culture, then what typically happens is the company culture becomes formed by the employees. While that doesn't seem like a big deal, it actually has gigantic repercussions. • Having a company culture created by employees would be akin to a person having their personality determined by their peers, family, and social group. Not only would there be a loss of self, but there would be so much conflicting values and beliefs you'd never be able to understand who they are or what they're about. The person would seem wishy washy and unreliable. It's the same for businesses. • • • #myhrprocesscouldusesomework #entrepreneur #business #businesslife #boss #employer #hiringprocess #lifeskills #businessadvice #businesstips #entrepreneurlife #lifecoach #nlpcoach #businessowner
There's two types of fear - real fear and illusory fear. Both feel the same in our minds and in our bodies, and can be very hard to distinguish. • I just found out that my friend was burgled late last night. In her home. She's a single mother. With young kids. It happened while they were in bed. She chased the burglar out with a baseball bat. • I came home once to a burgled home. The house had been broken into and anything of value was stolen. I slept with a knife under my pillow for weeks afterwards. • In both events fear was there to protect us, but one was in response to a VERY real and immediate threat. The other was an anxious fear toward an imagined event sometime in an ambiguous future that never came to pass. • Sidenote: if you live in CHCH around Parklands and noticed anything strange around midnight of the 30th can you please report it. This criminal needs to be caught.
Why have I been offering pro bono life coaching sessions to a limited number of people when I know I could (and probably should) be charging? To fast track my experience and to pay it forward. • There's a saying that when you teach, both parties grow. Many lifetimes ago I taught stats at uni. One semester I was asked if I could help out this young girl who absolutely freaked out about doing stats because she had dropped out of maths in high school. What was meant to be a one off revision became weekly tutoring sessions. On Friday evenings. For the whole semester. For free. FML. • Needless to say the girl passed with flying colours and went on to complete her degree. The funny thing is, because I needed to be better prepared for those private tutoring sessions my own stats abilities improved massively. So when it came time to work on the statistical analysis for my own masters research a year later, it was a breeze, while many of my peers struggled. • This hasn't been exclusive to coaching either. I trained my current staff at the smoothie bar in basic cafe skills so she could say she had some experience when applying for other cafe jobs. I remember how shit it was in the beginning when people only wanted someone with experience but weren't willing to train me up. It was just coincidental that a spot to work with me opened up not long after. • Truth is I'm only able to be in a position to write about this because of the kindness of people who gave me their time and support without asking for anything in return. So I guess this is my weird little way of reminding myself to stay humble and to pay it forward. • • • #payitfoward #lifecoach #lifecoaching #nlp #nlpcoach #masters #mastersdegree #teaching #humble #giveback #teach #appliedpsychology #personaldevelopment
The more active I've been with posting on social media the less I've wanted to use it recreationally. • Once something becomes 'work' it can easily rob the stress relief, escapism, or enjoyment that activity once provided. This is one of the reasons why I discourage people from turning their hobbies or passions into their careers. • Enjoy what you do for a career, but be very very careful about mixing passion into that mix. • If you'd like to receive some pro bono life coaching sessions, PM me, I'm wanting to gather a wider variety of client testimonials and scenarios. • • • #career #lifecoach #lifecoaching #coaching #mentoring #passion #life #lifelessons #personaldevelopment #selfgrowth #growth #nlpcoach #nlp #entrepreneurship #business #businessdevelopment #selfemployed
