Worked #cosplay til 2am and about to pack it in when @misterabsfitness tagged me on some gorgeous unused cover art by Michael Golden on Avengers Annual 10 featuring the first appearance of Rogue.
Great Minds my friend. I love this issue. Golden drew the living shit out of it and Chris Claremont wrote a tight story about the Avengers getting their asses handed to them both physically by Rogue and then emotionally when their friend and teammate Carol Danvers shows up, crippled by Rogue and furious at them for basically being complicit in her abduction and rape by a cosmic entity- fallout from a very disturbing Avengers 200 that Claremont among others found reprehensible. This annual was Claremont taking both Marvel and it's characters to task for that error in judgment. When I met him at NYCC he spoke at length about why he had to write this story and why Carol's fate had haunted him. I remember as a kid finding Avengers 200 disturbing and gross even while I didn't fully understand it, and I was always appreciative that this issue dealt with that even if it meant making the Avengers look like assholes. This was the stuff that is important to Chris Claremont, not getting into arguments with John Byrne over if Dr. Doom would allow Arcade to strike a match on him. Wonderful man- he wants to talk about this stuff and every time I meet him he has great stories to tell about the process and the decisions that went into his stories.
And of course he and Michael Golden were kind enough to sign it... ; ) #marvel#marvellegends , #marvelart#marvelfan#nycc , #nycc2015#comiccon#rogue#xmen#marvelcomic#bestcosplay , #captainmarvel#caroldanvers , #msmarvel#warbird#captainmarvel#avengers#comicbooks#art#chrisclaremont#writer#avengerscomics#firstappearance#classiccomics
