I love seeing what my customers create with fabric from my shop and I LOVE when what they create fills them with so much happiness and confidence like this Union Chambray #fringedress @handfulofarrows sewed for herself. Keep using #makermountainfabrics so I can see all the beauty!
And I am sending out an email tomorrow full of the incredible work all of you do. If you would like to see all of the beauty, joy and inspiration, click the link in my profile or go to bit.ly/MMFnewsletter to make sure you are on my list!
I am seriously in love with this block print design by @jenhewett and the amazing cotton/linen canvas that it is printed on.
And I am pretty excited to get to hear her talk, along with a whole group of other amazing women, about slow fashion in Oakland in two weeks.
If you understand my serious love of seriously beautiful fabrics and like meeting new people who understand it, too, come join us in our Facebook group! Just tap the link in my profile or search Maker Mountain MVPs to find us!
I am so excited to now have @straightgrainpatterns in my shop. An’s patterns are all so well written that I feel like I am taking a sewing class with a master every time I sew one.
Plus, they are so beautiful!
And we needed more great kids’ patterns around here!
And she is basically the nicest person on the Internet and I am so glad she is my friend!
Check them all out at the link in my profile and tell me which one you are dying to sew for your tiny people!
I get to play with this fabric today, top secret Halloween plans, but I will be showing bits and pieces in my stories.
This is the fabric so beautiful that I accidentally ordered it twice, and friends, even double the amount I usually buy is more than half sold out already. If these gorgeous flowers by @barij have been calling to you, I wouldn’t wait too long to order some. Tap the link in my profile or go to bit.ly/MMFjersey to order a few yards before they are gone!
Soft, squishy, stretchy and gorgeous. @artgalleryfabrics jersey knit is reliably amazing for all of your stretchy apparel sewing dreams, holds up incredibly well to frequent washing and basically allows you to wear art, like this Cadence Winds Oliva by @barij . I don’t really know what could be better. Tap the picture or the link in my profile to claim some of this beauty for yourself!
“Here, in our family, it seems that all we need for self care occasionally is a bit of quiet, a bit of time to be inside yourself, and a bit of time for our hands and minds to work together to find a little peace.”
Jane @buzzmills Is on the Maker Mountain Fabrics blog this morning friends, sharing about the place sewing holds in her self care and how else she and her family all find ways to take care of themselves, and I loved it! Click the link in my profile to go read about it (and see more pictures of this incredible @cottonandsteel @alexiamarcelleabegg Market Floral Rayon Matcha Top, pattern by @sewliberated , that she sewed up this week).
Tiny #parsleypants by @madebyrae + dark indigo wash cotton/linen blend chambray basically makes me swoon with the cuteness and I can not wait to put them on George for his birthday next week, even if they might need a little rolling up. ⠀
This fabric is amazingly perfect for so many projects, from babies to adults, and is exactly what you will want to be wearing every day once you get it in your hands and feel it in person.⠀
Tap the picture or click the link in my profile to invite some over to your house to play.
All of the incredible fabric and pattern designs created by the incredible artists in this community are so inspiring to me, and I love combining them to plan projects.⠀
But, there is never enough time to sew all the projects I plan, so it is a super good thing that I have all of you to share the inspiration with. ⠀
I am sending out an email tomorrow with some of my most very exciting plans. If you would like some inspiration I would love to send it to you, too. Just tap the link in my profile to make sure I have your name and email address on my list.
Is it getting chilly yet where you are or still weirdly warm? I am super ready for the rain and cooler temps and to get to start playing with all the amazing flannels in the shop. Tap the link in my profile to see them all and decide which one will be keeping you warm soon!
I am a big believer in sparkle and these metallic silver stripes on Camino C Nani Iro double gauze really make it something special and I can’t stop thinking about what a great dress it would make.
Tell me- what would you make with this beauty?
“I had never known "my people" before I discovered my maker family. Through our common interest of making, we gave ourselves a network of support. How do you describe the importance of something like that?”
“The first time you make something that you admire, something that you are proud of, is a practically indescribable moment. The child in you jumps up and down clapping with pure joy.”
And so much
“I sew for my sanity and my community. The time I set aside to give myself the room to be creative, to alter a pattern in a new way, or figure out how to make a ready to wear garment more flattering - that is time spent showing myself that who I am really matters to me. The act of creating and making is an act of self love.”
When I asked my friend Amber @kindness.cat to come guest blog, with the only direction being to talk about how sewing is part of self care for her, she immediately said an enthusiastic yes, and I could not be happier to have her as the first of 4 incredible bloggers sharing with us all this month. Click the link in my profile to learn more about her sewing journey, her self care journey and why I got a little teary eyed reading her post this morning.
How gorgeous are these bibs made with my pattern by one of my incredibly generous customers? They were sent off to help in a neonatal oncology ward, keeping all those tubes and line clean from drool and spit up and saving the babies and the nurses from unnecessary and painful dressing changes. ⠀
If you would like to get involved in this incredible project, and get my bib pattern for free, please email me at email@example.com and I will send you all the details!
For my Southern Hemisphere friends, this organic Batiste is just the thing for all that warm weather sewing you are planning. Lightweight, beautiful drape with just the right amount of structure.⠀
And for those of us just starting to get chilly, it is perfect for a light layer over a tank, or as a super soft tank against your skin under something warmer.⠀
Basically, we can all use this gorgeous fabric to sew just what our hearts desire right now.⠀
Tap the picture or click the link in my profile to order a few yards now!

There is something I think you need to know, and I hate to have to be the one to tell you, but....
It is officially 1 month until Halloween!
(Except I actually love to be the one to tell you, and could not be more excited, because I love Halloween and costume planning and sewing).
I love finding ways to use basics that my kids can wear again, combined with fun add ones that will be played with a million times in our dress up box, to make one of a kind costumes that my kids fill with their own magic.
What are your plans? Do you need help brainstorming how to make something come to life? So you need idea inspiration? Let’s talk about here or you can check out my costume tutorial round up at the link in my profile to get you started!
Speaking of pockets and sedition... one week from tomorrow I am holding a workshop to learn how to sew this perfect dress- comfortable for all that we get done in a day, flattering on all our gorgeous bodies (it comes in sizes 0-24 and I will teach you how to make simple alterations so that it fits YOU perfectly) to give us confidence and joy every time we put it on, and with pockets for all our leaflets (or get out the vote postcards).⠀
And there are still 4 spaces left! Come join us while we sew our own pockets, make plans for action and of course have some mimosas and snacks, because we need self care and strength right now and always!⠀
The link to check out the details and reserve your spot is in my profile. If you have any questions, reach out, I would love to answer them!
Birds soaring through sunshine is one of my very favorite sites, whether I am on the beach, hiking in the mountains or in my own backyard, and every time I look at this fabric, it brings me that same feeling of joy and peace and reminds me to take a big breath.
Tell me- what helps you feel that? And what are you doing today to help yourself take that big, calm breath?
