Here is your reminder to take care of yourself as things get nuts on this stretch to Christmas!
I went home early yesterday because I woke up with a nasty headache that kept getting worse and then I felt nauseous and thought for sure I was in the verge of a migraine. Luckily the lunchroom was willing to give me a bunch of saltines for lunch and I made it until 7th period when they could get me coverage. The good news is, I think I really was only nauseous from OD-ing on caffeine and not eating enough while trying to get rid of my headache, I felt a TON better after a ton of water and a solid nap. Fortunately, when I explained to my students that I was leaving because I wanted to get home before...*student completes my sentence with “you die?”* the amazing aide in my room was able to calm my student with autism who immediately started yelling, “WAIT, YOU’RE GOING TO DIE?!”
One of my students with autism responds well to visual reminders on post-it’s. I didn’t make this for him today, so I’m guessing it got stuck to his planner or art box and got transferred to and left behind in my room. He is an INCREDIBLE artist, and this no singing picture is killing me!!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🙌🏻 #teachersofinstagram#giftedstudents#autismacceptance
FEELING LIKE YOU SUCK TODAY? Me too! Here is my post-it note reminding me to look up the Wisconsin State Social Studies Standards, because I have received two emails about conferences or new textbooks for new standards. I wasn’t aware there were new ones?!?! I last printed the WI SS standards during the last school year...I pull from common core for ELA...if there are new standards on the DPI site, that’s news to me. However, it was already 7 pm, so that’s tomorrow’s problem. Also, I’m the MS/HS SS dept. head...NBD. 🤷🏼♀️ Need more validation that you don’t need to have a perfect classroom? Check out my stories. I’m a behind the scenes (or hidden in a crate) hot mess. OK...off to grade more stuff...
Finally found something to fill this odd open spot on my board! Just need to cut some letters to say “geography fact of the week.” Have you checked out @thegeographyguy on tpt? His resources are fantastic! I think I will change this out each week and offer bonus points on tests for recall of the random facts.
THIS GIRL ❤️ When I first met her, she was 100 percent bald from chemo and couldn’t come to dance class because of the germs. Today I had the pleasure of watching her perform the Nutcracker with professional dancers from throughout the US. She decided to try out on her own, going up against children from far more “prestigious” dance schools in the area, but guess who was always in the front?! Teaching this girl ballet and watching her grow and overcome obstacles over the last 6 years has been an absolute joy. She has beat cancer, started dancing en pointe, taken on other styles of dance, played “Box of Lies” with Jimmy Fallon, and also plays on the same traveling softball team I did growing up. She does everything with a smile on her face, and never thinks anything is too difficult. She is mature beyond her years, and fearless. Proud doesn’t even begin to describe what I am feeling today.
I heard this hit the floor outside my classroom during passing time. Oddly, before students came running into my classroom to tell me, I had already predicted in my head who it was, and I was right. Can I put that on a resume? Why do middle school students feel compelled to jump and hit anything that hangs from a ceiling? #iteachmiddleschool#teachersofinstagram#iteach7th
