I was so surprised and deeply honored to be presented an award by Marta Ordaz from the Deaf Counseling Advocacy and Referral Agency (DCARA). I want to express deep gratitude to you all for choosing me as the recipient of the Change Leader Award from DCARA. This is clearly one of the most significant events of my professional career. I will cherish this award which inspired me to continue my advocacy work in the Deaf community. Marta and I will carry this torch forward so that the next generation of Latinx advocates have a strong foundation to stand on. Also, thank you to the California School for the Deaf (CSD), the Raza de Sordx Club at CSD, California Deaf Latinx Advocates, Bay Area Black Deaf Advocates and Bay Area Asian Deaf Association. I want to thank each one of you for being my partner and ally with my advocacy journey. It is truly a blessing for me to work with each and every one of you. There is still much work to be done—As my dad used to say to me, in Spanish, “Vamamos!”—Let’s get moving! I truly will cherish this token of appreciation for years yet to come. Once again, thank you with much ❤️. Note: Liliana Ortiz won an award, Shining Star! Congratulations, @lili_tapia1 🙌🏽👏🏽!!!!

To honor the celebration of Latinx ✊🏽heritage and LBGTQ 🏳️🌈Month, our high school club, Raza de Sordx hosted this special event for the Middle School and High School students. Four students gave the presentation and invited LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 dancers from Ensanble Folklorico Colibri located in San Jose. I’m so proud of our students.
