@ria_algoo inspired me to write this post. She is one of the few social media personalities I respect and admire. So when I came across her IG stories today, it really broke my heart. It basically spoke to how the world of social media and ‘influencers’ has become a very competitive and superficial place - and that she cannot be a part of it any longer.
This saddened me because I think Ria is so authentic and unique in her Instagram approach. And the fact that what we are exposed to every day made her feel like her contribution isn’t worthy...is just wrong.
The online popularity contest needs to come to an end. The fake Louis Vuitton bags, fake photos, fake friends, brands throwing lavish events for ‘influencers’ (WHY are you wasting money on this kind of nonsense? Give that money to charity.) We never see the tough side of life when it comes to social media. It’s all glitz and glam. But let’s be honest...how real is it?
Whatever the reason is that you created an Instagram account - be proud of it. Be proud of your voice, your take on life and who are as a person. Whether you’re a mom who wants to share parenting advice, an aspiring poet or an artist. Be THAT! I have stopped obsessing about my follower count and amounts of likes I receive. It’s rubbish and can stress you out! And seriously...there are a lot more important issues in life to be be concerned about. 🖤
