So excited to visit @oldforester in the heart of downtown Louisville in their opening week. This Bohemian cocktail, with beet shrub, Old Forester 100, Crème de cacao, is one of the most innovative and delicious libations I’ve ever had.
And while we are on the subject of @ediblelowerala, Alabama’s coolest, funkiest, and most stunningly gorgeous magazine, don’t miss these “Featherlite Pancakes”. The author of the recipe, an American legend of civil rights and liberties, may surprise you. Link to digital publication in profile.
Antique meat grinder at @farmfreshmeatsal. If you haven’t read the profile (written by yours truly) on this incredible, authentic family-owned butcher shop in @ediblelowerala magazine yet, what are you waiting for? Link to digital version in profile.
@saraparsonscowley and I did a lunch thing today and hit up @modpizza. I am fully enamored. So affordable and howdoyoulikemypie with red sauce, spicy Italian sausage, olives, mushrooms, arugula, roasted garlic, mozzarella, Parm, artichokes, arugula, and a pesto driz? #modpizza #🍕
Show of hands: 🙋♀️ Who else is baking today? I thought it a great time to share some baking tips that I’ve learned throughout the years, and I’d love to hear yours!
1. Pound cakes go into a cold (unpreheated oven). It makes for a slower rise, which yields a denser, more melt-in-your-mouth texture.
2. Even if the recipe doesn’t call for it, vanilla extract is always a good idea (and it makes baked goods taste less eggy). 3. Butter and eggs should always be at room temperature.
4. Set your timer for ten minutes earlier than the recommended time. You can always bake longer, but you can never unbake.
5. Beat the butter and sugar until it’s light and fluffy, and then beat it for five more minutes. It should be pale yellow and completely incorporated before adding the other ingredients.
That’s all I have (for now). What are your tips and tricks? 🍰 🥧 🍪 🍁
I have to say, @peatandpearls was the best food event I’ve ever attended, and that is saying quite a lot.
Where else can you sip on @glenfiddichwhisky and Champagne while feasting on oysters from chefs and restaurants all over the Gulf Coast (and beyond), including our @the_noble_south, Dothan’s @eatkbc, Montgomery’s @vintageyearmgm (pictured), and Auburn’s @acrerestaurant? The innovation and culinary talent displayed by every single chef in attendance was astounding.
Yesterday afternoon at the Barkley House in @visitpensacola was one for the ages. I’ll be there in 2019 (and every year after), and I hope you will join me. #clpicks
I don’t make my kids’ birthday cakes often (because there are so many awesome local bakeries to support), but when I do, it’s a Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles cake. Happiest of third birthdays to Lemon Baby, who’s actually not a baby anymore... 😱#HappyBirthday#PeppaPig#KidsOfInstagram#baking @officialpeppa
It might not feel like fall here at the Alabama Festival of Flavor, but it certainly tastes like it! If you haven’t already, head over to @yelpmobile to catch all the happenings of our #instatakover today in @visitfoley!
