FEELING LIKE CRAP ON KETO
Are you getting headaches and feeling sick while doing keto?
-
You may have the keto flu, which is simply a byproduct of switching from using carbs as your primary fuel source to fats (keto). During this process ketosis has a diuretic affect on the body, meaning you are going to be peeing more and flushing out alot of your electrolytes.

This means that you need to stay hydrated (at least half your body weight in ounces of water) and eat plenty of salty foods like bacon, deli meat, and salted nuts. You can also add salt to your foods and drink bone or chicken broth for a quick electrolyte boost!

KETO LASAGNA
Here is a delicious recipe for a Keto Lasagna by @ruledme

CALORIES/MACROS
This makes 10 servings of Keto Lasagna. Each serving comes out to be 578 Calories, 46g Fats, 10g Net Carbs, and 30g Protein.
.
INGREDIENTS
1 whole spaghetti squash
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
½ medium onion, diced
1 pound breakfast sausage
1 pound 80/20 ground beef
1 tablespoon minced garlic
24 ounces Rao’s marinara sauce
20 ounces whole milk ricotta
2 large eggs
¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
2 tablespoons chopped basil
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
8 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Carefully split the spaghetti squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Roast for 35-45 minutes or until the squash is tender and easily shreds with the fork. Remove from the skin into a bowl and set aside. If there’s any visible liquid drain or pat dry.
While the squash roasts, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet. Add the chopped onion, sausage, ground beef and garlic.
Cook the meat thoroughly and drain any rendered fat.
Add the marinara sauce to the meat mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for about 15 minutes or until thick and most of the liquid has been reduced.
While the meat simmers combine the ricotta cheese, ½ cup Parmesan cheese, eggs, basil and ½ teaspoon salt and pepper in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
Turn the oven down to 350°F and lightly grease a 2.5 quart casserole dish.
Begin with spaghetti squash, adding half the shreds (about 2 cups) to the bottom of the dish and pressing into a flat layer.
Top with half the ricotta mixture, followed by half the meat sauce, and a layer of half the mozzarella cheese.
Repeat the layers again, starting over with another layer of squash.
Sprinkle the casserole with the remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 20 - 30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Let rest for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Follow these four main principles to start keto fast!

STOP EATING OUT AND COOK YOUR OWN FOODS
It can be difficult to get into ketosis when you are eating out. It is difficult to keep track of the hidden carbs in foods prepared by other people, so simply prepare your meals yourself! This especially important since you are trying to get into ketosis. Bite the bullet and stay home and prepare your own keto meals!

START TRACKING YOUR FOODS
You need to be tracking your foods and hitting the strict keto macros of 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% or less calories from net carbs. (net carb=total carbs-dietary fiber) When you are tracking you can make sure are hitting these macros to get into ketosis and adapt quicker!

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Aim for half your body weight in ounces to start. Make sure you are adding salt to your meals as well and eating vegetables high in potassium so you are getting enough electrolytes. This will help you stay hydrated, and avoid the keto flu!

AVOID PROCESSED FOODS
You want to avoid processed foods and "low carb" foods when starting keto. This is becasue these foods often contain hidden carbs that will prevent you from getting into ketosis, so try to avoid them as much as you can!

This makes 12 servings, at 227 Calories, 18g Fat, 4g Net Carbs, 9g Protein per serving.

INGREDIENTS
-1 ½ cups blanched almond flour
-½ cup coconut flour
-½ cup coconut oil, softened
-½ teaspoon sea salt
-2 extra large pastured eggs
-1 cup turkey broth
-1 cup diced, cooked turkey
-½ cup green beans
-½ cup diced radishes
-½ cup diced zucchini
-½ cup mashed pumpkin
Seasoning to taste
-1 teaspoon psyllium husk powder
DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 325.
Combine flours and salt in a bowl or food processor.
2. Add coconut oil and mix well.
3. Add egg and mix until thoroughly combined.
4. Separate dough into two balls.
5. Grease a 9" pie pan with butter or coconut oil, then place one dough ball in the center of the pie plate and spread out with hands.
Continue spreading dough out until the bottom and sides of the pie plate are covered.
5. Bake at 325o until crust is just beginning to brown, approximately 8 minutes.
Filling
6. Put broth and veggies (and seasonings, if using) in a saucepan and simmer until veggies are tender.
7. Add meat and heat through.
While stirring with one hand, slowly add psyllium husk powder with the other hand until completely blended.
8. Continue to simmer for about 3 minutes while stirring.
9. Pour mixture into pie crust.
10. Place remaining dough ball on a piece of parchment paper and roll out.
11. Continue to roll dough out until it is the size of the pie plate.
12. Very carefully peel crust from parchment and transfer to pie plate. Place over meat mixture and patch any places where dough did not hold together. 13. Shape up edges and cut vent holes in the top crust.
14. Bake at 325o for 45 minutes. Be sure to place a baking pan in the rack below the pot pie to catch any drips. 15. When pie is cooked, remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Serve and enjoy!
