My top 10 favorite horror movies.
Number 5: Scream (1996)
I'm just gonna go ahead and tell y'all; most of my top 5 are slasher movies. I am a HUGE slasher fanatic! Scream was one of the late great Wes Craven's masterpieces. Scream has fun with the slasher subgenre while still being terrifying! Sidney Prescott is one of my all time favorite heroines in a horror movie, and Ghostface is a creepy and creative killer. And of course, whenever I talk about Scream, I gotta mention the badass opening! Scream has, in my opinion, the best movie opening of all time! Its iconic and scary as hell! This movie is just all around a classic!
My Halloween ranking.
Number 2: Halloween (2018) (Spoiler Free)
I have been excited for this movie ever since it was announced. And finally, I got to see it. And I absolutely loved it! This movie pays great homage to the original, taking place 40 years after it and ignoring the sequels. Michael Myers was so brutal and just all around terrifying in this film! If you didn't think he was the scariest slasher before, you definitely will now!
And Jamie Lee Curtis' return as Laurie, she kicks ass! If you thought she was a bad ass in H20, she's even more in this film! And finally, the soundtrack, Holy Crap the soundtrack! John Carpenter returns for the first time since Halloween III to compose the soundtrack and as per usual, he does not disappoint! There were many times in this film where the combination of the scene and the music gave me chills! Being a HUGE fan of the original film, I personally think this is the best sequel in the franchise!
My Halloween Ranking.
Number 3: Halloween H20: 20 years Later (1998)
A back to Basics sequel. H20 says the hell with the Cult of Thorns Trilogy and continues 20 years after the events of the Halloween of 1978 (the original and 2). This was the sequel i've been wanting for since H4. Mainly because I hate the Thorn story. This movie, similar to the original, builds up suspense and focuses a lot on tension. And then the final act, oh boy, Laurie Strode kicks ass in this final act! Jamie Lee Curtis never disappoints as Laurie. Some people hate how this movie has a Scream vibe, coming out in the late 90s, but that doesn't really bother me. I love Scream! So why would I hate that about the movie? Anyways, this is one of the best movies in the franchise to me.
My Halloween Ranking.
Number 5: Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
This is definitely the most divided film of the franchise. Mostly because its also the black sheep of the franchise, for its the only movie that doesn't have Michael Myers as the antagonist. Most people automatically hate the movie because of that, or avoid watching it. Personally, I really love this movie! It has a creepy plot and really does give off a Halloweeny vibe. The scene with the mask killing the boy and his family was disturbingly awesome as hell! I also gotta mention the kick ass soundtrack composed by John Carpenter. The man can make music as good as his movies! If you've ignored this movie because it does not feature Michael Myers, please give it a chance and watch it. I doubt you'll be disappointed!
