Nowhere near a 5 rep max for me. In fact, this isn't a post to show off how much weight I'm doing at all. Less than two years ago I went through full ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair. After hopping right back into the daily life of the Marine Corps infantry (before I was fully healed), I was sure that I’d never feel this good. I'm proud to say that through all the hard work and days of pain that came with it, I’m finally feeling 100% again. A year after my surgery, I wasn't able to hit this weight once on front squat. Now, It's what I warm up with. With football starting in less than 3 months I'm beyond happy to say that I am feeling this healthy. For anyone out there going through some type of setback, don't doubt yourself on what you can come back from. Life will knock you down and you just have to stand right back up stronger than you were before. Anything is possible.

There has been a lot going on with me as of lately but I am finally getting back into the swing of things. I’ll remind you that I am not a personal trainer nor do I claim to be. I have been a certified fitness instructor within the Marine corps and I am a certified TRX instructor but that is it. That being said I do have a lot of experience and I am willing to help out anyone with questions. I have a ton of messages in my inbox since I have been out of commission, don’t think that I am ignoring you. Looking forward to seeing what we can all accomplish down the road. Anyone out there have a flight start to 2018? Anyone feeling a little down about things? Discouraged maybe? Here’s a little motivation for you as we start the week:

There comes a time in life when you have to saddle up and get ready for a bumpy ride. Things aren’t always going to  go as planned, relationships will fail, you’ll lose people and things that you care about, you won’t always get what you want, you may get injured, etc. But no matter what, at the end of the day, you still have yourself. You should be passionate about yourself more than anything else. That’s not selfish, you just need to know that the only things that will take care of you no matter what, are your body and your mind. Life will hit you hard and when It does you need to cock back and hit It even harder in return. Grow from your failures and tribulations. Become a product of your own personal struggles in a positive way. Every day you should work to better yourself, every day you should wake up like it’s game day and you have something to prove. Don’t waste your time feeling sorry for yourself, make life feel sorry for trying to get in your way. The key isn’t to try and avoid set backs, it’s to embrace them and show your resilience. Stay focused, stay humble, and let nothing hold you back from what you want to achieve in life.

Here’s some tips for my fellow athletes out there:
If you’re training for a specific sport make sure that the training your doing carries over to the field of play.
There are plenty of phenomenal training programs available online and in you’re local gym, but the problem is that most of these are geared toward the aesthetic side of the fitness world..not the performance side. Even an exercise plan with a focus on strength and powerlifting does not fully translate to your sport. Strength and size is important in many sports but does not necessarily encompass everything that you do on the field. Make sure to not just focus on increasing your strength but to work on your speed, agility, power, and flexibility as well. ——————————————————————————

Lets be honest here, no matter what you train for... everyone likes to add some size to their arms. —————————————————————————
When I target my biceps, I always find that the best way to train for hypertrophy is through the utilization of “drop-sets”. My favorite drop-set involves loading up the ez-curl bar with as many 10lb plates as you can until you get to a weight that you can’t do anymore than 10-12 at. Perform your set at the highest weight and immediately drop a 10 off of each side. Rest for a moment then perform the next set. Continue this all the way down until you get to just the bar. Once you get to just the bar, I like to switch to a reverse grip (overhand) and do slow and controlled reps of reverse curls until I reach 12 reps. When talking about slow and controlled reps I prefer to speak in seconds, 3-4 seconds on both the concentric and eccentric portions of the life as well as a brief 1-2 second pause at your peak contraction (the mid point of your rep).
Perform this drop-set twice during your workout and I promise that you will have the craziest pump of your life.

If you want to make things more challenging, incorporate the use of fat gripz. My grip strength, forearm size and bicep size have all increased since I began to use these in some of my lifts. ——————————————————————————
