When the sun shines on your winter wedding in December, you do a little happy dance! Tracey & Steven's beautiful wedding day is up on my blog. Take a peek! I love shooting at new, unique venues. This gorgeous historic building in the tiny town of Tenino, Washington did NOT disappoint! Sandstone walls, original wood beams, and open rafters left nothing to be desired. What's the coolest wedding venue you've been to? Maybe it wasn't a 'venue' at all but still a perfect spot for a wedding?
This is me. When I’m not documenting precious moments with a camera in my hand, I’m chasing my lightning fast three year old with a seriously plump baby on my hip. In the spirit of getting to know each other... here are two truths and a lie about me... can you guess which isn’t true!? 1. I’m crazy allergic to dogs.
2. My hubby and I traveled to Italy without booking a single flight or hotel ahead of time.
3. If I had to choose between Grey’s Anatomy and the Office, I’d pick Grey’s every time.
Sometimes when I'm photographing a senior I think to myself, "I could be photographing a future president of the United States!" Or a Nobel prize winner, or a catalyst for social change, or... you get the picture. The point is, I have met some incredible young men and women during this senior season! What do you say, @jeffreywaldon00 for President?
SOS! Which stands for Save our Sanity at this particular moment. You know, that moment where I’ve led my toddler back to his room for nap/quiet time for the 27th time all while he has put forth 0 effort to actually lay down and rest? Lincoln is 3 and a few months... I keep thinking maybe he’s ready to no longer nap. The problem is, when he doesn’t take a nap, he is an emotional mess the entire afternoon/evening until bedtime (around 7pm.) and he complains of being tired. It’s like he needs a nap emotionally but not physically. It is so exhausting and frustrating for me to fight him to rest, I almost feel like it’s damaging to our quality of life. Help! I know lots of you moms must have gone through something similar. Do you have any tips, tricks, or suggestions?
"What greater thing is there for two human souls, than to feel that they are joined for life--to strengthen each other in all labour, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting?" - George Eliot 💕
Whoever started the trend of monthly birthday updates for your baby is a real jerk. I don’t want to think about how fast my babies are growing and changing! TOO FAST! My sweet Holden Wade is 9 months old. He is officially crawling, pulling himself up to standing and is working on his 5th and 6th teeth. He loves to eat cheerios, do yoga (pictured) and be wherever his big brother is. This little chub is fast, curious, and absolutely wonderful.
I don't hang a lot of pictures on my walls. We live near a military base and nearly every day our home is rattled by the sound and vibration of explosions. I frequently wake in the middle of the night to what sounds like a war-zone outside my house, and occasionally the kids will be startled awake from their naps. You won't hear me complaining about the commotion, though. I'm so grateful to be able to raise my boys in a town inundated with a military presence; where they can see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and feel with their bodies constant reminders that our freedom is not free. I am so thankful for all of those who serve and sacrifice, today on Veteran's Day, and every day.
Am I the only mom with a crazy fear of fevers!? I spent the last two nights on Lincoln’s bedroom floor, listening to his every breath and coaxing him to take sips of water. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep a wink. 😴 ... and you can add cleaning up vomit to the very short list of things I don’t love about being a parent. Now I’m just praying my littlest guy doesn’t end up in the same boat. Sheesh! Parenting is not for the faint of heart. Prayers for my boy to get better quickly are appreciated!
“Remember, remember the 5th of November.” If you’re not watching V for Vendetta today, bummer for you. I just can’t stop loving that movie! I keep trying to decide on my favorite quote because there are so many good ones.. but with tomorrow being Election Day, this one feels most appropriate... “Knowledge, like air, is vital to life. Like air, no one should be denied it.” Educate yourselves, friends, and then get out and vote!
I had this crazy idea that it would be fun to have a “sleepover” with my three year old last night. We’ve never slept in the same bed, and he requested a few nights ago that mommy sleep with him. I decided I’d better soak up the snuggles before he’s too big to want snuggles anymore and made a special ordeal out of it... after getting kicked, punched, and peed on and securing about an hour of collective sleep, I now realize why we don’t bed-share! At least now my Halloween costume will be really easy today. Zombie mommy. 😴
We set last weekend aside to paint the interior of or home... a week later, I’d say we’re about 50% done. 😂 Apparently we thought a little too highly of ourselves when we set that goal! At any rate (I think) it will eventually be done and in the meantime we’re loving the transformation. I escaped painting for a few hours for Brad and Victoria’s engagement session and I’m so glad because it was a breath of fresh air! Both figuratively and literally... the house is covered in wet paint you guys.
This weekend we’re tackling a huge home improvement project and I am learning quickly that this type of work is significantly more challenging now than it was pre-kids! But alas, we learn to adapt... and balance a baby on our hip while toting around cans of paint and sheet rock. Our walls are taupe today but hopefully tomorrow this place will look shiny and new. Any guesses on the color of choice!?
It's officially a sick day at our house today, boo! Although my tendency is to get frustrated when things don't go as planned (and I can't get anything done because I'm sick) I am instead feeling thankful for the forced opportunity to slow down. Snuggling my boys and listening to the rain feels pretty amazing right now, even if being sick doesn't! PS. Could this gorgeous mama be any more perfect!?
