When I was a Child…
I had a friend at school, her name was Gemma,
We played games and talked together.
One day when a preacher came,
We learnt about No Other Name.
Gemma and me were only seven,
When we talked of Jesus, God and heaven.
Gemma said, “God lives in the sky, way up high”.
“No,” I replied, “he lives inside.”
This really disturbed me as a child; to be told-
That my Maker was distant and cold,
When I could feel His warmth in my heart;
Resolving this needed someone smart.
I turned to an adult, a significant other,
One I respected, let’s just say it wasn’t my brother.
And when she said, ‘God lives in the sky, way up high’.
I didn’t stay to hear the why.
I walked away somewhat headstrong
Thinking adults can get it wrong.
Jesus lives inside me,
It’s not something everyone can see.
Years later after that single event,
I’ve come to realise the child’s lament:
Adult minds cannot conceive
Child’s ability to dream and believe
So I’m busy taking this glorious photo when I meet a guy sitting on a ledge. Conversation ensues, he’s a pastor from NY and after some prayer went on my way- what a blessing to start the day! #thanksjack
“When you worry about a problem, it doesn’t bring you one inch closer to the solution. It’s like sitting in a rocking chair — a lot of activity, energy, and motion, but no progress” #classic#rickwarren#matthew6
I found a friend this week, Gemma. Gemma has a puppy and I asked whether I could cuddle it. She handed me her mangled and much loved toy puppy. Gemma is 4. The puppy all of a sudden came alive and started talking to me! And I talked back to it. This magically happens to most stuffed toys that I cuddle! But what I can’t get over is the children who say to me, “it’s just pretend.” Not. In. My. World. Kid. You see, I like to immerse myself in the mystery of wonder, the imagination of what could be, the mind of a child. If you have a chance today to meet a kid, talk to them like it’s real, try to get into their world. That’s what #jesus#didforus#kidsloveit
Quote by Rick Warren, “If God is not number one in your life, something else is, and it’ll control you to a negative degree. When Christ is in control of your life, he always moves you in the right direction.
Romans 6:12-13 says, “Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires …. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God” (NLT, second edition). What are the steps in this choice to let Christ have control? • Admit that you’ve been trying to play God. • Admit that you can’t change on your own. • Humbly ask God to help you change. • Be honest with someone else about the things that need to change in your life. • Give Jesus Christ total ownership of your life.
Do you really want to change? Are you willing to do these things? You say, “I’m so tired of trying and failing.” Stop trying. Instead, start trusting. God gives you the option to either depend on him or depend on yourself. The result is either freedom or frustration.
Why not give it all to Jesus? What have you got to lose?” #rickwarren
Little known story of the Thai rescue: the British Diver who found the kids had ran out of rope. So he went up for air and there those precious gems were—Sitting on a rock ledge right in front of him. He said, “if the rope were longer I would have kept going and not found them”. Also hours later the pumps failed and flooded the cave. That news from missionaries working in Thailand. #praisegod#divinediving
It’s a tight rope retrieving the Thai soccer team. Thee world watches, desperately praying for rescue from that dark prison. Heaven is also desperate for our rescue from the clutches of evil in this dark world. #jesus#died4u#takethelifeline
Radio announcers were discussing with utmost sincerity the way to heaven: by being good, and by inference, if you do more bad than good you go to hell. So I just had to give them a call and set them straight; it’s not like here where if you’re good you get in the soccer team etc and if your bad you miss out. It’s about WHO you know. God’s home is heaven, He is in charge, and if you’re His child you get to live with Him. #mmm#yourewelcome
When riding around corners and seeing those flexy white posts- which are screaming, “hit me, hit me Vetti” I dutifully responded. Only the post I hit was firmly set in place— metal— ops!! #mistake oh the background is skippy saying give it one more try #haha#thebird
