Looking towards a new week and wondering what opportunities and challenges it might have in store...while I’ve been injured, I’ve had the chance to dive into some new projects and I’m trying to make the most of every minute. 3 things I always try to do before the start of a new week:
1. Remind myself what my overall goals are - These are usually big picture thoughts that help me stay on track ⭐️ 2. Write down what I’d like to achieve in the week - Usually smaller tasks that are relevant to projects happening now ⭐️ 3. Make sure I’ve outlined my training sessions and times for the week. ⭐️ - I’ve always been that person who has a notebook to hand for any moment, whether it’s business or training, writing things down has without question helped me achieve more of my goals and stay focused in a world that is loud and more distracting than ever before. Plus...I’d forget more than I already do if I didn’t write it down!! To all my lovely family, friends and followers, I’m calling for some help. This is a picture of me getting the bike that I’m going to ride for 400km over 4 days in Sardinia (note the slightly scared face). Following the ride, it’s into a Kayak (!) to cover 30km of open sea kayaking.
The reason I’m doing this is to support the charity BIG CHANGE. I have never asked for sponsorship for a charity in this way before as I know there are so many good causes and efforts being made today for positive change, it’s hard to ask people to dig into pockets and support. However, BIG CHANGE is a charity that I can relate to in a big way and when I heard about the opportunity to help raise awareness through a crazy adventure, I jumped on board. - WHY? Not every young person in the uk is given an equal playing field when it comes to education, jobs and even living situation. I was one of the lucky ones. I know some who were not. The education system needs a shake up!
According to #frontline , half a million children in England do not have a safe place to call home and there are over 70,000 children living with foster carers or in children’s homes. Only 6% of young people in care end up in further education. Compare that to 40% of young people in the uk who do.
How would you cope in an environment as a young person, where your education is not prioritised and your passions are not nurtured? I for one, know I would find it very hard. It’s time for BIG CHANGE. @strivechallenge have gathered a group to help raise a total target of 1 Million Pounds to help fund initiatives that are supporting young people to THRIVE in life, not just in exams.

Some things just feel right - bare feet on grass is one of them.! 🐾 I can basically feel my feet thanking me. Or sand for that matter, most soft natural surfaces feel great for the feet. How many hours of your life do you recon you’ve spent with shoes or socks on your feet?? For me, especially with all the walking in golf, definitely too many. It’s hard in today’s way of life to find time to walk in bare feet but more recently I’ve read all about the benefits of ‘Earthing’ and getting your feet on the ground. No socks. No shoes. Absorbing natural electrons from the earth that can help with a range of health and well-being aspects, including proper function of the immune system. It might sound a bit hipster to you, I was foolish to think that at first too but I have experienced first hand the benefits after giving this a go over a few months. FASTER - SMARTER - STRONGER : In the last few months, it’s fair to say I have experimented with my training, trying to push myself in new and stimulating ways while I have the opportunity. The July edition of National Geographic has an amazing article on ‘pushing the limits of human performance’ discussing the way in which innovation in equipment and training methods have allowed many records and barriers to be broken. The human body is able to achieve more than ever before. Smarter training and more precise performance and recovery data is constantly pushing the limits across all sports. The question remains how much more can we achieve by improving technology and equipment before it takes over from raw human performance? And at that point, how can we look to train our brain to the level we do our body? So much remains unknown about the power of the brain in performance. Or in injury for that matter. Certainly in golf, we all know the impact our mental state has on performance. Physical ability counts but imagine if we could perform in the flow state for all 18 holes. Perhaps that’s the next frontier? HANDS UP if you go into the gym with a plan/structure? Or hands up if you don’t and find it hard to know if you’ve done enough or feel satisfied with your session? What are you trying to improve? Are you training to improve your golf game or just to look and feel as healthy as possible. One thing I’ve learnt for sure, is that having a plan with your training is going to give you 💯 % more chance of seeing some good results. It’s also a great chance to make sure your training is designed to help you with your specific goal/s. It could be improved strength, improved endurance or speed or perhaps it’s weight loss you’re looking to achieve. Everyone has different goals and so my best tip for seeing training results is to get a pen and a 📓 , start by writing down what you’d like to achieve and then set about getting a programme (with the help of a professional if you can) that’s going to help you achieve your goals!!
