32! #hiked and #camped yesterday by #mtcharlston near #vegas . #mcwilliamscampground , at 8,600 ft elevation, was more than 30 degrees cooler than Vegas, and infinitely more pleasant. It was also fascinating to see striking change in vegetation- from #joshuatrees which I didn’t know can grow well until 6,500 ft, to #bristleconepines
My resolution for this year, based on the recent increase in annoyed looks i have been getting: Start referring to uncles as bhaiyyas, and grandpas as uncles.
#peacocks ! Thats one thing #indian that I don’t have to miss anymore! #immigrantswithfeathers
Woke up to see a #peahen and her babies chilling by my front yard! ☺️
#lucky#privileged . The chicks are lucky too for #hagalaz my neighborhood outdoor cat wasn’t around.
Seriously, when I first visited this place, I was stunned to see a male #peacock crossing a main road, and all the traffic letting his highness pass! That did influence my decision to rent the place 🙂
From splashing it around endlessly to studying it professionally, #water has always been my element. But I was never comfortable #swimming - i would either try to swim #breaststroke as hard as I could and get tired within a lap, or struggle with breathing while attempting #freestyle . It was same three weeks ago when I decided to start swimming as a #crosstraining tool to stay fit while recovering from sprained ankle and #runnersknee . However, just going there everyday helped tremendously. My speed dropped to a #sustainable one, and I started to get into a rhythm. Daily laps increased to 2, 4, 8, and today I 🏊♂️ more than a kilometer!! #highonendorphins#personalmilestone#iphonography
Drove a #jeep for the first time (thanks to free rental upgrade) ! Its handling is simply awesome.
Had fun #snorkeling#hanaumabay . The water wasn’t at its clearest best, but still great!
Also, tried a bit of underwater photography/ videography. Coming soon!
Addressed my biggest regret from previous #oahu trip- visiting #pearlharbor !
Got to spend the entire afternoon taking in the events of December 7th, 1941- what caused them, how they unfolded, and how they shaped the #wwii that helped create today’s world.
It was intriguing to see an #ifonly moment from history- the original plot of the radar that detected Japanese planes at 7:02am, full 45 minutes before the first attack. It was dismissed, confused with friendly planes that were also expected that day. If only.
“If anything came out of the incident was the value of equipment “ . That same #radar#science is giving us several valuable data on the changing #climate . If only.
