I teach for my students.
I teach for the girl in the back fidgeting with her shirt and worried about embarrassing herself.
I teach for the student who tells me after class that it was just what they needed.
I teach for the guy who is likely the only male there, but damn if he isn’t trying his best.
I teach for the woman dealing with anxiety and depression.
I teach for the older couple trying to maintain their balance and health.
I teach for you because I was you. I still am you. I will be you.
I offer what I have in hopes that it helps you in the same way that it helps me.
A student in my class cried a little bit in shavasana today. They were soft, silent tears filled with emotion.
It looked like she was trying to let go of her pain. Maybe she was. I will probably never know. But the fact that she felt safe enough on her mat to let that emotion show is honestly one of the most beautiful things to see.
This is why I teach.
I went to Havasupai for the 1st time over 11 years ago with my high school P.E. class. Over the weekend I was able to return for a 2nd trip, this time with my husband in tow.
To be honest, I have A LOT of mixed emotions about it. My heart broke a little bit. This place has changed so much since the last time I was here & unfortunately it has not been for the better.
I knew it had become a popular destination, but I wasn’t prepared for the magnitude of people that now inundate this place daily.
The line of cars stretches for over a mile long. We were the minority in carrying in all of our own supplies. Helicopters buzzed overhead incessantly throughout our entire hike.
The village now has a new cafe and restaurant. There are food tents along the trail. None of this used to be here.
Now you have to walk through a tent city to find a place to camp. Guides have staked out all the good spots & lay their claim by leaving someone to guard them.
I remember spending HOURS playing at the base of all of the waterfalls without seeing anyone. Now you can stand in line to take a pic with no one in it for effect.
There are 3 new outhouses that are constantly overflowing with feces and trash. Old shoes, plastic bottles, tampons, & toilet paper are EVERYWHERE.
You know what wasn’t around back then? Smart Phones. I have made the claim before that I think social media is playing a LARGE part in the influx of visitors these places see & I feel like Havasupai is the epitome of that. As we were waiting in line to climb back up Mooney falls I heard a girl say “it looks just like the photos!”
It’s so easy to take & share images now. I’ve definitely been guilty of it too. But at what cost? Is what we are doing truly a positive thing?
I just cringe at the thought of how much of an impact people are having on this place. I’m not sure I want a part of that.
But I also know that things change, technology improves, economies need to evolve & grow to support our growing population.
I don’t have a good answer to this problem. I’m not sure there is one.
I’m still not sure what to think about it all. I’m not sure what to think about social media. I’m not sure what I should share. Or not.
#tbt to sunnier days!
I had some adventures with my paddle board planned for these first two weeks of October, but it has rained (and snowed in the high country where I was wanting to go) almost Every. Single. Day.
I mean I’m super grateful for the precip... but next time Mother Nature can you please spread it throughout the summer a little more?

Yoga is for everyone.
I repeat, yoga is for everyone!
I’ve had so many people over the years ask me if they can “do yoga” and my answer will always be “YES!” every single time!
It does not matter if you can put your foot behind your head or if you can’t even touch your toes, there is a style and a teacher for absolutely any need and every person out there (chair yoga exists you guys!) There are so many different ways to try yoga too!
There are literally thousands of videos online. If that’s not your style, find your local gym, Rec center, or yoga studio. Most gyms and rec centers now offer yoga classes, sometimes it’s even included in your admission. Most yoga studios offer a free or donation based class once a week as well! A lot of studios will also let you clean in exchange for a pass. I have scrubbed toilets, mopped floors, made parking maps, worked the front desk, cleaned mats, and washed windows in exchange for free yoga.
There are so many options out there that can work with your schedule, budget, and needs. I always encourage people to try different styles of yoga and different teachers too! Not every teacher out there will be offering what you need and finding the right teacher for you can make all the difference in the world!
I’m always here to answer any questions (to the best of my ability 😊) if you ever want someone to talk to as well.
One of the worst feelings is feeling like you should have done more. Should have called more, should have written more, should have visited more.
Don’t put it off. Don’t forget to keep reaching out. Tell those you hold close to your heart just how much they mean to you. Tell them you love them. Tell them often.
Pictured are some of my most favorite people in one of my favorite places
It was a rough year for water around here. I quit going to a lot of the reservoirs and lakes a few weeks ago because I got tired of slogging through mud to a half empty puddle. However in July i did get to take @detailed_balance out for her first time paddling before she moved to another country! Having multiple boards makes me feel spoiled but damn do I love getting to share time with my favorite people doing my favorite things.
Thankful for the memories made this summer ❤️

Flowers from my husband for our anniversary on Monday ❤️
It’s been an emotionally intense couple of weeks but Erick has been there with me for every step of the way. I’m so grateful for his constant love and support, I’m blessed to have such an amazing partner to share this crazy beautiful life with.
I am so grateful to have so many badass women in my life. Women who say yes to 4am wake up calls and mountain sunrises. Women who kick my butt on long trails runs and smoke me on mountain bike rides. Women who think skinning UP a mountain before the lifts open is a great idea. Women who challenge my way of thinking and open my eyes to a new perspective. Women I learn from and women I teach. Women I go on crazy adventures with and women I sit down and have a beer and conversation with.
I am grateful for them all. I love you all.
Now who wants to go on an adventure?!
This amazing woman is currently making her way towards Italy where she will living and working for the next year! Words can’t begin to describe how proud I am of you @detailed_balance I’ve always known you were destined for great things, even if sometimes I had to remind you of it 😜
Cheers to the next chapter, which I have no doubt will be one of the best to come.
And when you need a dose of home, I’m always a phone call away. Always ❤️
