Art can be scary. It's intimidating staring at a blank canvas or paper, not knowing where to start or wondering if you'll mess it up. Even in my own pursuit of creativity I struggle with this every time I start a new project.
I've learned that you have to be fearless. You have to be okay with messing up repeatedly, you have to be okay with feedback and criticism, and you have to be okay with others not "getting it." You have to be strong to pick up that pen and paint brush again and again.
Not matter if you are a beginner or a veteran, art isn't about perfection. I find it to be a journey of discovery, vulnerability, and failures right alongside of successes.
I've decided to start a seperate blog to share and transcribe my creative pursuits in art, photography and video.
Now that I've moved all my design related content to @oaklynstudio , I'm making room for all the other things I love here.
Thanks for sticking around during this transition and for your support. You just reading this means the world to me. Honest. 📷 Shot snapped by @dinarohiraphoto
Mini brand film for @dinarohiraphoto capturing her skills behind the camera.
It was a blast working with her and meeting so many amazing creatives on HTX!
Happy Friday! Did you know:
• The reason I got into design was because I was first interested in photography. I use to take a lot of self-portraits and taught myself photoshop so I could play with the images.
• I also really enjoyed makeup, and would often do it for fun so I could take photos of it later. If you keep scrolling you'll see some of my makeup art (specifically picked for the season 🎃)
• I have had pixie haircuts.
• I used to have a lip ring, and even now I'm thinking about getting a nose ring. I just haven't bit the bullet. What's your vote, tiny nose ring or tiny septum ring? 😜
I love sharing my knowledge with you. That's why my blog is full of tips and tricks and educational tidbits that will help you in your business.
Lately I've been on a product photography kick and the latest post is all about mastering the art of phone photography.
Link is in profile. But while you are here... Is there anything you are wanting to learn that I can help you with?
Keeping the blog content centered on you and your needs is my ultimate goal. -
I have a folder full of magazine clippings, book pages and printed pictures that I find inspirational.
I revisit it often to update the board above my desk, because a change in scenery and mood effects the everyday monotony.
It helps inspire me or surge my creativity.
Do you have anything like that in your workspace?
FINALLY 🎆 the shop is updated and is now live on our new site for @oaklynstudio .
There are tons of minimal illustrations including the newest "lover's embrace." There is also beautiful flower art created from scanning real flowers. 😍🌹 Scroll to see a few. Link in profile to shop.
Balancing all the creative urges is difficult. I'm constantly jumping from one idea to the next... But I'm still so thankful for that.
I wouldn't be able to without you. Seriously. My following on Insta has allowed me to grow my design studio and evolve to @oaklynstudio , sell my art online, and learn video while meeting amazing people.
So THANK YOU from the bottom of this little creative's heart ❤
This year I went through a rebrand.
Hannah Robinson Design became Oaklyn Studio ( @oaklynstudio ). The name may have changed but the heart did not. There is nothing I love more than using my talents to serve other people.
The logo represents my husband (fox) and myself (owl) together and supporting one another. They have been our favorite animals for years and have a lot of history.
If you aren't following the other account we would love to see you over there too!
Happy Tuesday folks!
Treasure your gift.
Your talent. Whatever it may be, treasure it and don't compare it to another's. Invest time into it. Take pride in it.
No one is you and no one can gift the world in the same way.
So I guess in a round about way I'm also saying to treasure yourself. ❤
I finally sat down and collected my thoughts about my mentorship with @alevidal . You've probably seen a slew of videos from the experience already, but now thanks to Ale's sneaky self I have footage of myself.
Head to the blog to see the full clip, plus learn a bit more about what video means to me and my experience with the mentorship.
It's been awhile since I've done anything with video. When I began working on anither one last night... I remembered just how much I love it.
It's good for our creativity to find another outlet besides our main craft.
Video challenges me, inspires me, and moves me.
Now I'm on the hunt for my next idea.
