Homemade case I used for a ‘68 Mosrite Celebrity in the ‘90s. I traded the guitar for a Gretsch, the new owner didn’t want the case. I still have it somehow. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartpainting #greggoul
Folk art mouse. I made this for our cat, Frank. He loved to catch mice and chipmunks. His first move was to remove the tail. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #greggoul
Old Crow. Carved from pine, painted with acrylics, finished with shellac, and rusty nails. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #folkartbird #folkartcrow #greggoul
Folky White-breasted Nuthatch. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #nuthatch #greggoul
Nashville Warbler carved from pine, 2009. This was the second bird that I had ever carved. Painted with acrylics, aged, and finished with amber shellac. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #folkartbird #warbler #greggoul
Crow ornaments. Pine and acrylics. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #folkartcrow #crow #greggoul
Folk art squirrel! This is one of my favorite carvings and probably the only squirrel that I’ll do. It was a very tricky carving starting out, and blood was shed. #indianafolkart #folkartcarving #folkart #folkartsquirrel #cedar #greggoul
This female Cardinal was carved back in October of 2014. The background really captured my interest when looking for photos to post. It was carved from Basswood and painted with milk paint. The bird was aged with various stains. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #cardinalcarving #basswood #milkpaint #greggoul
Here's a take on a horse weathervane. I really dig this piece and used it as a centerpiece at the Frankfort Library Art Show in November. Unfortunately it didn't create much interest from the patrons. I live in Franklin, and Johnson and Shelby counties have a ton of horse farms. Maybe it'll find a home close to where I live. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #weathervane #folkartweathervane #greggoul

I love seeing colorful birds in the yard. The Goldfinch always excites me. I have gotten used to Sparrows of all sorts. This little guy is made from pine and painted with milk paint. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #goldfinchcarving #goldfinch #pinecarving #milkpaint #greggoul
I think I have carved three of these Swans over the past 8 years. This one may be my favorite. It's been through some battles. Carved from Basswood and painted with milk paints. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #swancarving #greggoul #milkpaint #birdcarving #folkartbird
Chickadee! One of my favorites at the feeder. I painted this bird with milk paints and finished it with an oak stain. The stain I used was around 10 years old, but the finished result worked out well. Happy accident, I guess.

This carving sat for years. Probably six. I finally decided to make it a tiny Dowitcher. It was carved from cedar, painted with acrylics, and finished with a special walnut stain. The beak is an old nail from a bathroom remodel. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #greggoul #folkartshorebird #dowitcher
This is a Red-headed Woodpecker. It is definitely one of my favorites, and the only woodpecker with a solid red head. Others just have spots. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartwoodpecker #milkpaint #redheadedwoodpeckers #greggoul
Dudley-style Canvasback. Carved from basswood and painted with acrylics. This style has really influenced how I approach all of my carvings. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #canvasback #canvasbackdecoy #folkartbird
I started this Dark-eyed Junco carving during my demonstration at the Frankfort Library Art Show and finished carving it when the patrons slowed down. It is carved from pine, painted with milk paint, and finished with a pine stain. #indianafolkart #folkart #folkartcarving #junco #frankfortlibrary

This Loon was a fun carving to work on. With most of the waterfowl and raptors that I carve, I use acrylic paints. For songbirds I tend to use milk paint. I may experiment with oils next year. #indianafolkart #folkart #frankfortlibrary #loon #folkartcarving
