I really like ending the day with dessert! I’ve found that I don’t NEED it but I definitely like having a little something something to finish the night. On my @total_wellbeing_diet plan I’ve been off of sugar for three weeks, and it’s INSANE how my taste buds have changed. I just tried a TINY crumb of a colleagues pear & ginger loaf that she brought into work and OMG so sugary!!!! 🍭🍬🍫🍩🍦
This “dessert” is real simple: plain greek yogurt mixed with some sugar free raspberry topping & sliced almonds. Dave’s serve is double mine, and he has one piece of dark Lindt choc chopped up in his. You can customise it however you like! Nut butter, coconut chips, frozen or fresh fruit or dried fruit would also be DELICIOUS!

I haven’t done a #transformationtuesday in a while because there hasn’t been anything to report 🤷🏼‍♀️ this is three week’s difference doing @kelseywells #PWR programme, classes at @lesmillsnz for cardio and following the @total_wellbeing_diet low carb meal plan 🎉 still a long way to go but it’s nice to see that I’m heading in the right direction 💃🏼

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is how I know what I’m doing at the gym. Answer: I don’t! No ones an instant expert and I’m learning like everyone else who is new to working out and exercise. But practice makes perfect. You’ll try an exercise and feel AWKWARD AF but don’t worry about the people around you, focus on you and improving your form. No pain, no gain. Well, to be frank & entirely transparent, there was quite a shit-ton of pain after my morning run on Friday... so much so I’ve put running on the back burner this week. I had no idea just how painful shin splints can REALLY be until I could not actually move, at all. I’m resting, deep heating, and iceing my shins on the daily. Despite the setback I’m still working out, still on the #lowcarblyf recipe bandwagon and still keeping on 🙌🏼this was this morning’s brekkie: overnight oats w Greek yogurt topped with my homemade sweet spiced nuts 😍

My favourite simple salad 🥗 grab a bag of your favourite greens🌿, a mix of low-carb fibre packed veges (alfalfa sprouts, tomato, blanched asparagus and green beans), some protein (can of tuna + egg) & some yummy fat sources (egg, feta, olives and my go-to dressing of EVOO + balsamic). I tend to make my lunches a few days in advance, keeping ingredients separate to stay fresher for longer - but if you assembled each morning would definitely not need as many containers 😂 my lunch had 31g of protein & 15g of fat keeping me FULL 👌🏼

I found a fish shop close to work that sells the FRESHEST fish (direct to supermarkets) & grabbed two tarakihi fillets to whip up pan fried fish with steamed Asian greens 🥦

I used book choy, broccoli & snow peas as my greens. Over top I put a sauce made from EVOO, rice vinegar, lime juice & soy sauce. The almonds were so easy & tasty: flakes almonds toasted in a pan before adding a dash of soy sauce and a tiny spray of EVOO. The fish was cooked in a teaspoon of olive oil, soo easy but super tasty! I’ll definitely keep fish on the menu 🐟

One week in annnnnnd I’ve got an injury 😅💔 BUT it’s not going to wipe the smile off my face! This means I’ll have to hit pause on my upper body #BBG #PWR workouts and allow my body to heal. I downloaded a free app called Couch to 10km. I have purchased the whole training programme for $18 because I am REALLY genuinely enjoying training with it! If you have always wanted to give running a try then download the app for free and give it a go for a few weeks 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

My first low carb meal 😅 I’m finally back in the swing of things after coming home from Bali and have my workout routine sorted 🙌🏼 so now it’s time to reassess my meals and see what works best for me and my body. This year I have tried SO many things already, but came across the #csiro diet and got excited to give it a go. Essentially it’s fewer carbs, high protein & higher fat. There’s a LOT of nuts and seeds that I’m not used to eating! This was lunch today: salmon wrap using @mountainbreadau, with rocket, tomato, ricotta & homemade (broccoli) pesto. It was so delish so I’ll see how the rest of the week goes. At the very least it’ll be fun to try out some new recipes and see whether low carb means low energy 🤞🏼😬 has anyone else tried the csiro plan? 💕

{PORTION CONTROL PROBS} One of the bad habits I have fallen back into over the past few years is increasing my portion sizes. My portion sizes have been so big at times that I’ve given myself indigestion issues like reflux. No fun. When I was little my mum would always say that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. She was right… Every buffet we ever went to I shoved OUTRAGEOUS amounts of food in me. I don’t seem to have an off switch… and that’s been the way my entire life. I’m not complaining or anything, I’m just aware that it is something I have to keep a check on especially when it comes to losing excess weight, that if I don’t, will ultimately have an adverse effect on my health later down the track.

Overhauling habits is NOT EASY, especially my habit of serving myself a generous portion each meal lololol but I wanted to share the way I’ve been tackling the portion-size issue to try and help anyone else in the same predicament! Here’s the step-by-step:

🌟 go to Kmart/Warehouse/wherever and get yourself NEW SMALLER bowls/serving plates!
🌟… I prefer #bowllife to plates for my dinners because we’re slackers in my house and 9/10 we’re eating dinner watching Love Island tucked up in bed or on the couch, and plates are so hard to balance.. but not important!
🌟 go home, pack away all of your old bowls / plates that you were using
🌟 every meal USE THOSE NEW BOWLS / PLATES!
🌟 now this may seem extreme, but sometimes I’ll also eat with a smaller spoon so that I’m forced to eat slower, allowing myself to fill up on that portion infront of me
🌟 of course, if after you’re finished and you’re still hungry 10-15 mins later, get some more food in ya hun!

I know this may sound obvi but honestly it has been a real changer for us in our house. The only time we use our old big bowls are when we have low calorie soups (like my spicy miso ramen with 0 calorie noodles), salads (which would bankrupt us rn), stir fry veges, etc, and in those instances you definitely should not deprive yourself because the overall calorie content is so low, so go hard on those serves!

Pinching myself everyday. How did I get so lucky to meet someone who not only is so supportive of my professional goals, but also my personal health & fitness goals? People who truly love you and support you will have your back regardless of the goal you set, they will not only want you to achieve them but they will actively do everything they can to make reaching that goal easier. I know this because I have had partners in the past who are the exact opposite, which is why I stayed single for almost 6 years waiting for a relationship that was actually worth my time and energy ❤️ definitely worth the wait. Feeling BEYOND GRATEFUL ❤️

Four years ago I decided I needed to leave my full-time salary and a career in communications to fulfil my childhood dream of becoming a lawyer.
