Up about 12lbs in two weeks from contest day. Was trying to keep the weight rebound under control but.... chocolate 🤣🤣🤣

Well overall 12lbs is not that bad... been a lot worse before, like 20lbs in 3 days ha ha... and it is growing time now; but trying to actually grow muscles and not just my belly 😁 so far other than the abs being washed out, looks like the weight is going to the right places.  Hopefully it continues for the next few months.

#tip When it comes to dieting the biggest mistake I see people make is “playing all their cards at once”

You have many tools (cards) at your disposal when it comes to weight loss.  Caloric reduction, increased activity, macro manipulations, macro timing, fat burners and much more.  How many times have you heard “Starting Monday, I’m eating no carbs, cutting calories by 1000 calories a day, doing 1 hour fasted cardio and taking this fat burning stack”, guarantee most failed in their diet.

Reason for failing:

1) Going from 0 to 100mph will just burn you out and you won’t last. Might do it for a few days, but without easing into it, you will simply burn out, cheat or most likely quit.

2) The body is very adaptable.  It doesn’t care about aesthetics.  It cares about survival.  Fat is simply storage of energy. When you start to lose weight, the body starts to conserve energy, by reducing the number of calories you burn. So when you start off using all the tools at your disposal at the beginning of the diet, and the body adapts and you are no longer losing weight, what are you going to do? Do you have any cards left to play?

The key to weight loss, is patience, and using right tools, at the right times, at the right amounts. Don’t expect to lose the weight it took you months or years to accumulate, to be gone in a couple weeks. It won’t take forever, but be patient and play your cards when needed.

#tip Don’t fear the salt. For years we were told that too much salt is bad for you.  Studies have associated excess salt with hypertension (high blood pressure) and kidney damage.  However these studies never looked at the source of the salt.  Most of these health issues arise from eating an incredible amount of salty processed food, which results in people who consume a lot of salt tend to consume a lot of foods that are generally unhealthy.

Salt is essential for life. It is a major component of your blood plasma, lymphatic fluid, extracellular fluid, and even amniotic fluid. It carries nutrients in and out of your cells. Helps maintain and regulate blood pressure.
.
For athletes and those that regularly train, salt is even more crucial. If electrolyte levels are out of whack, your muscles will not fire efficiently and are not maximally recruited by the nervous system. This results in cramping, weakness and loss of strength.
.
Sodium plays a huge role in amino acid transport and protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is not only dependent on leucine getting inside the cell, but also cell volume. If you are low on sodium (or water), the ability of the cell to turn on protein synthesis is severely crippled.
.
So should you go crazy in the frozen pizza section? Of course not.  Stick to your clean, unprocessed food diet.  When cooking don’t be afraid to add sea salt, or Himalayan salt or even plain old table salt.
.
What about water retention? If you have been avoiding salt, and you start to consume excess sodium you might get a bit of water retention for a few days.  Drink plenty of water, and let the body get used to the normal levels of sodium and the water retention will subside. .
Lastly, for some incredible muscle pumps at the gym, try adding half a teaspoon of salt to your preworkout.  Thank me later.

Work muscles harder and train them a couple times a week. Accomplish this by simply only doing 1 or 2 work sets (we don’t count warm up sets).

How would you implement this? Let’s take a look at a typical gym bro doing a chest work out starting off with the bench press. Sets might look like this:
Warm Up:
Bar only x 15 
95lbs x 12 
135lbs x 10 
155 x 10 
185lbs x 10 
Work Sets:
225lbs x 10 
225lbs x 8 
225lbs x 8 
225lbs x 6 .
Total of 4 work sets, then they do another 3 or 4 different exercises for chest in a similar fashion.

Instead try this:
Warm Up:
Bar only x 15 
95lbs x 8
135lbs x 8 
185lbs x 5 
225lbs x 2 
Work Sets:
240lbs x 10 
240lbs x 8 .
Less energy wasted on warm ups resulting in higher weight for your work set, therefore working the muscles harder. The workset reps don’t target a specific rep count per se, just maximum effort until you can no longer do a rep without sacrificing your perfect form. .
Incorporate other techniques to maximize intensity, such as a 3 to 5 eccentric (lowering of the weight), not locking out at the top of the movement (muscle under tension through out the set, locking out provides a mini rest). After these two worksets do only one other chest exercise, for another two intense worksets.  You are plenty warm so just do a warm up set or two just to get a feel for the movement.

That’s it, 4 total work sets. If done with proper form and real intensity, will work the muscle harder than the 30+ sets (including warmups) typically done.
.
A more intense workout, in less time; and because you didn’t do a thousand reps, it allows you to comeback in 3 days fully recovered to train the same body part again.  If you are fully recovered between sessions, the more often you work the muscle (intensely) the faster it will grow. #yougrowoutsidethegym
